What a lovely day! Spent today kayaking and snorkelling. Today I was reminded of an important lesson. I’ve always been scared to death of jellyfish. Why? Because every time I happened upon one when I was little, my parents would get all agitated and warn me to keep away because they wanted to keep me safe from harm. And of course, any depiction of a jellyfish sting on the telly is of people being in agony, or rushed to A and E with a heart attack. So my fear of jellyfish has prevented me from really enjoying swimming in the sea. I’ve always been hypervigilant. Well, today I got stung. And …..it was fine! Just a bit tingly and itchy! So there’s lots of morals to this story but the main one is that sometimes when we protect our children, we can accidentally prevent them from enjoying all life has to offer. I really struggled with today’s #mariecuriephotoaday prompt. It wasn’t a lack of things I am scared of, more a #fear of admitting my fears, as if admitting them might make them more likely to occur. I am not short of fears, as someone who suffers from #anxiety I often battle my fears. They are deeply personal though and quite hard to illustrate in a photograph although a potential project to explore on the future.
