If the answer is no then consider the following: This is the same hormone required for reaching climax as needed to birth your baby. Oxytocin! During labour your body releases oxytocin. This assists your uterus to contract, shortening, thinning and opening your cervix as it does so. Unfortunately quite often during labour particularly in hospital settings you are regularly disturbed meaning that oxytocin stops being produced and adrenaline kicks in. This is unfortunately why many situations are labelled ‘ failure to progress’ This is a protection method cleverly built into your body to stop you giving birth in a ‘dangerous’ situation. Way back in time if you were wandering the plain and were in labour and spotted a predator, your body would naturally stop to protect you from being eaten. You would produce adrenaline in place of oxytocin to enable you to run or fight. This is known as the fight or flight response. In this modern time the body doesn’t know any different and will do what it can to protect you and your baby. This modern equivalent is bright lights, strangers, feelings of being observed and an unfamiliar environment. Keep your birth space free from all of these things for a much more positive outcome. 📢Each year, more and more children and young people are experiencing the negative signs of stress, burn out and anxiety. Here are 3️⃣ ways to support your young person's stress management 👯Dance - A simple way to express ourselves is through movement or dance. Put on some of your favourite music and get your body moving. Join a dance class, or you could watch a dance video online, or just move in a way that feels freeing and natural to you. 🖌️Create - Get stressful thoughts off your mind and do something creative. Get out some paints, do some colouring or some writing. Other creative outlets include scrapbooking, sewing, knitting and even baking. Don’t focus on the end result, just focus on how that creativity makes you feel. 🥗Food - Ensure you are eating nutritious foods at regular intervals that are not high in sugar or processed. Sometimes when we are stressed or tired, we want quick energy from sugar. However, this can often cause a sugar crash leaving you feeling more exhausted than you were before. Try eating a piece of fruit, a handful of nuts or a sandwich. Welcome to Musical Bumps Croydon! My name is Maree Waller and I have been teaching Musical Bumps in Croydon for 15 years. I love watching children grow in confidence and develop their singing skills from babies right through to starting school. New parents are warmly welcomed to baby class. We start by learning new songs and explore new ways to use familiar songs with our babies. By the 1+ class children are exploring the environment, exploring instruments and moving to the beat. In the 2+ class, children start to learn about rhythm as well as use their voice in different ways. By the time they reach the pre-school class, children can sing simple greetings on their own, recognise beat and rhythm, learn about different instruments and even read simple musical notation.
