London Fogを飲もうって意気込んで行ったけど直前に忘れてFlat Whiteにしてしまった。次こそは。 ふと思い返すと日本は割と容易に仕事を見つけられて、タスクをこなしていれば決まった日に給料が入る。それはとても恵まれている事で、一歩外に出ると仕事を見つけるのは至難の業で仮に見つけても使えなければ解雇だって有り得る。賃金が高いから雇い主もそれなりにリスクを抱えている事だと分かります。地元の人も苦労しているそう。 そう考えると自分もどれだけ幸せな環境に居たのか考えさせられます。

Fantastic Feasts and Where to Find Them #104 Before our mini wizards go back to school tomorrow, we took them to @thedarkhorseyork. I often enjoy coffees, toasties and anzac biscuits from their converted horse box in @shamblesmarketyork - but this was my first visit to the bricks and mortar South Bank site. Recommended by Polly at @littlevikingsyork, I thought it was high time we wand-ered over! Toasties are their speciality, and I went for the chicken, peppered pastrami, cheese and aioli. A delicious feast of flavour, and a hearty meal. The mini wizards opted for plain cheese, and a mozzarella and a pesto special. Both very much enjoyed! Mrs Wizard had the Croque Madame, and the combination of ham, cheese, mustard and a fried egg is a real winner. All the toasties are made with thick artisan sourdough, no supermarket bread in a Breville here! We all shared a ham and cheese pastry pinwheel too. Served warm, this was wheely good (sorry, not sorry!) and very moreish. A portion of parmesan and chimichurri fries was again packed with flavour, and another taste of magic. The cappuccinos hit the spot too - rich, silky smooth and one of the best I’ve had in York. No room today but there’s an enticing array of cakes and traybakes, and pastries from @littlearras. 我滿滿一年的加拿大旅程｜ 早在一個月前我離開了多倫多，過了一段時間終於能整理一下自己。我一直覺得自己是個很幸運的人，最照顧我的人是我10年前在咖啡廳一起工作的（十年後一樣照顧我），抵達多倫多前一天發現大學的學姊也在同一個城市，過沒多久也發現以前的好朋友也要來多倫多唸書，能有老朋友在身邊好開心。 回想第一個月被北美的冬天嚇到，沒想到經過澳洲雪山的訓練根本就是沒用，也被北美的職業環境微嚇到，不過相信自己是一件很重要的事情，第二週找到一份打工，第三週找到一間咖啡店，好險上班第二天發現老闆像屎一樣，毅然決然找其他工作，第四週收到別的面試，第二個月開始在新的咖啡店上班，也是我一路做到最後一週的咖啡店。 我很高興我應徵了這間咖啡店，我也很高興我成為了他們的一份子，而有機會成長學習。第一個對我最重要的成長就是毛遂自薦想要升經理，我得到了這個機會，同事和主管是我得來的福分，一路上都很支持我，雖然每天都有不同的難關，但是我真的對他們很感恩也很興奮。在這裡，我不僅是認識了工作夥伴、客人，我認識了一輩子的好友。 在我工作的最後一個月，有個幾乎每天都會來喝咖啡的老公公老奶奶塞給我一張十元美金鈔票，我本來想拒絕，但是他說這是給我的幸運。 我在多倫多的這一年，有你們大家，就是我的幸運。 It’s been one month since I left Canada but it’s time to recap myself. I always think I am a lucky one. A friend who cares me the most, Tina, is the cafe owner I worked for 10 years ago. The day before I arrived Toronto, I found out Joanna, who studied in the same college with, just moved to Toronto. Couples week after, Enos came to Toronto for his new life. It’s always good to be around with someone you knew and met before. In the beginning of last year, I could said I was shocked by the winter in Canada. I guess the winter of Australia will be nothing after these. Also, I was kind of disappointed of the career environment there but I believe I will be alright. This faith led me to found my favorite job. I am so lucky to join Dark Horse. The one I stayed til my last week of the year. I learned a lot and grown up with them. These opportunities are precious than I expected. I met lots of lovely people, my colleagues and customers, and now we are good friends in life. A regular came in another day and gave me a 10 bucks note. Yesterday evening, I tried one of Dark Horse’s seasonal drinks, the dreamsicle latte. This one is supposed to be orange flavoured. I really enjoyed it but I wish the orange was stronger! We came like 20 mins before closing so I guess they were giving away free Dear Grain loaves and I’m not gonna pass that up. I’m trying my best to enjoy the end of July cuz everything for me is gonna be full speed ahead starting in August 🫠 ~ dreamsicle latte w/ oat milk ~ free loaf of bread!!

The sun came out in York today, so we strolled into town for a post-SATS treat with our middle one: a mooch around the shops and @shamblesmarketyork (look at those peonies from @wiggintonroadnurseries) and the caramel slice of dreams from @thedarkhorseyork. It’s one of the best places for coffee, and we’re slightly overexcited that they’re opening a cafe around the corner from us on @bishyroad. 🤓 5 of 6 #urbangems around St. James Cathedral. 🧡 A few weeks ago, I noticed people lined up in front of... a wall on Church Street, just north of Wellington. I realized that they were waiting for a new kind of vending machine to make them a coffee! It was one of five ROBO Cafés in town. I was skeptical of the quality of the coffee that would result from such a process. After all, the company behind the ROBO Cafés is KioSoft, which specializes in creating unattended payment solutions for laundromats, parking lots, car washes... It turns out that local @darkhorsecafe is behind this project! I knew they wouldn't risk their reputation with bad coffee. ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️ My visiting friend is one of those coffee aficionados who weighs his beans before grinding them, stirring the result to ensure an even spread of grinds before running it through his intimidating espresso machine. You could always try a toastie from @thedarkhorseyork 🐎☕️ This is a far-cry from your old Breville toasted sandwich though (sorry Breville corporation!) and these live up to the gourmet title. There are ham, chicken, pastrami and French onion options, and a special with all the meat and all the cheese. Hot, tasty and really filling. A delicious crunch to the toasted sourdough from nearby @bluebirdbakeryyorkshire. I sometimes find pulled pork a little stringy or too wet, but this was spot on and fell apart beautifully. The triple cheese blend was even cheesier than some of my jokes. Hey, who said that?! 🧀 My Americano had a good rich flavour, and packed a punch. There’s a range of other coffees plus alternative milks, along with plenty of cakes and biscuits to choose from. Mulled wine is even on the menu, and WINE not?! Okay I’ll be honest… this is not my first rodeo at Dark Horse Espresso Bar and that’s because it’s so nice I had to take my sister there when we had a day downtown today. A lot of others seemed to have the same idea as it was pretty busy when we went. Big shoutout to whichever staff was playing their emo/pop punk playlist because it made my day. Both my sister and I got iced flat whites. I haven’t been here for a while cuz I don’t remember iced flat whites and I don’t recall seeing them anywhere else before. Dark Horse uses Detour beans, which are always great. Even better when they’re super strong in a flat white. I’ve only ever been to the Spadina location so idk if they have this at the other locations but I love the little sitting space behind the barista station. It was nice to relax and drink coffee there and get a break from the disgusting heat. Will be back for sure, as I have many times already. ~ iced flat white

York, you were a true delight 😌 One of the best parts about now living in the UK is being able to go on mini adventures to different cities & towns. York has been on my to visit list since I knew I was moving over and I would highly recommend anyone book themselves a little getaway there. We stayed in @thegrandyork which was honestly up there with one of the best hotels I’ve been to. Friendly staff, beautiful architecture and a warm atmosphere. Most of my time was spent wandering around the city & taking in all of the sounds and sights, but I did manage to venture to @yorkcastlemuseum and @shamblesmarketyork and would say if you visit York you MUST add these to your itinerary.
