The second photo shows my ticket from the concert. Just £8 to see High on Fire and the support band, who happened to be Russian Circles. The show was upstairs in a pub called Jabez Clegg that I had been drinking at for about 15 years and this was the only concert I ever attended there. Steelworks is back. After tumultuous pandemic times, 2024 is the year to return to everything the channel has been doing since it started: interviews, reviews, and gig reports. CD 392: High on Fire- Death is this Communion (2007). Speed, Sludge Metal Rating (8.6/10) Favorite Tracks- Waste of Tiamat, Rumors of War Least Favorite Track- Cyclopian Scape Death is this Communion is easily one of High on Fire's best albums. While not as good as Surrounded by Thieves in my opinion, it's in the same vein. It's very fast for the sludge genre, but still feels absolutely crushing; it's the musical equivalent to being run over by a semi-truck the size of a whale (the whale is stoned while driving). Fury Whip, Waste of Tiamat, Turk, Rumors of War, and Return to Nod were my favorite tracks, but Rumors of War is on a whole other level. It sounds almost Motörhead-esque, which is an incredibly unique sound that I wish the entire album sounded like. The album artwork is also incredible, and a great vizualizer for the music, as all amazing album covers should be. This is just such a kick-ass album that's worthy of being blasted all the way up to 11.
