We have a new favorite waterfall hike! The best part was that we had it all to ourselves. It felt amazing to get back on a trail, 5 weeks is way too long for me to be away. I have been worried about how today would go and that it was too soon but it all worked out ok. You used to have to take a rope down to the falls but they have new switch backs so you don't have to. I sure was grateful because I haven't healed that much! I did have a little trouble with my legs towards the finish and I am very, very tired. I thought I would have more weakness and surgery site pain but it wasn't too bad at all so I am happy. Recovery has set my POTS way back and depression and discouragement had settled in. This hike was exactly what my soul has needed and maybe I haven't been set back quite as far as I thought I had. I am grateful I have the rest of the week of to recouperate though, because I am going to need it. Farmington Creek Trail. This hike is 3.1 miles round trip with 885 feet of elevation change. It is a steady climb the whole way, but it is perfect for kids because there are interesting things all the way up…Lion King rocks, stream crossings, old cars, waterfalls, and a rope! They recently put in switchbacks to get down to the waterfall, but the rope is still there if you want to do the steep way. We took the switchbacks down and the rope up and it was a lot of fun! We also saw so many lizards…at least 10! The road to the trailhead is narrow and winding, but if you take it slow, it isn’t too bad. The U.S. Forest Service is temporarily closing Farmington Canyon Road to all users, at the request of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), to provide for the safety of heavy equipment operators and National Forest visitors. FAA road maintenance crews will be making major repairs to the road and resurfacing it from the end of pavement near Farmington, to the junction with Francis Peak Road (Forest Road #008) and Skyline Drive ( #009). A closure will be in effect prohibiting use of the road during construction. The closure begins at the Forest Service winter gate and extends to the Bountiful Peak Campground Junction.
