These geological curiosities, interestingly called hoodoos, are formed when relatively hard rock protects a column of softer rock below it from weathering and erosion. When the first light of sunrise reflects within the amphitheater, the red, orange, and white colors appear to glow from within, creating an unforgettable spectacle. Many people consider Bryce Canyon more beautiful than the Grand Canyon. I made this 150 megapixel panorama by seamlessly stitching together multiple photos captured in succession. I love a good landscape shot! One that has good composition, maybe highlights a particularly unique feature of the land, and attempts to show scale. As I go through all the National Park pics from a recent vacation, I think my favorite park was Bryce. It must be the deep contrast between the orange landscape, the green trees, the blue sky and the white snow. The snow, in this case, gives depth to each shot. Here are a few good pics from Bryce - the 1st pic being my absolutely favorite! Its a landscape shot with a different prospective. Naar 1915, om precies te zijn. In dat jaar bezocht W.J. Humphrey, een supervisor in het Powell National Forest, voor het eerst de Bryce Canyon. Hij was net zo onder de indruk van het fenomeen als jij en vond dat er zo snel mogelijk een autoweg moest komen. Daarmee konden meer mensen het Utah National Park, zoals de Bryce Canyon toen nog heette, ontdekken. En zo geschiedde โ hoewel de bouw ervan nog tien jaar in beslag nam. Humphrey en consorten werkten een decennia aan een route door de Red Canyon en schroomden daarbij niet om complete rotsblokken om te dopen tot doorgangen. ๐Day 3: Bryce Canyon We wrapped up our final day of the trip with a snowy morning in Bryce Canyon. The weather was in the 30โs with intense wind and light snow, but luckily hiking down into the canyon along the hoodoos blocked a lot of the harsh weather. As I look back at the pictures from the National Parks in Utah and Arizona, I feel very blessed to have witnessed bits of the most spectacular natural beauty in the US. At the same time, I am contemplating the topic of holidays and their accessibility across different social groups. Looking way back, I clearly remember returning to school each September and having to participate in my teacher's opening ritual. One by one, each student would have to stand up in front of the classmates and share what their summer was like and where they went on holidays. In theory, it was a nice attempt at community building and sharing. However, unlike other kids, my family did not go anywhere. Each holiday, we stayed at home all summer long. So when my turn came, the only thing I wished for was that the teacher would accidentally forget about me. Of course, this wish did not come true. With full-on embarrassment, I had to share that, unlike X who went to Croatia, Y who visited Spain, and Z who vacationed by the Baltic Sea, I did not go anywhere. This seemingly harmless exercise caused immense fear of irrelevance and rejection. Now, being an educator myself, I reflect on how easily one can inadvertently draw lines between students, and I try my best to be more sensitive than some of my teachers. And you? Are you a teacher?
