FL > SC We moved from FL to SC at the beginning of March. Although SC is literally one state over from our home state of GA, this was the first time since being on the road (July 2022) that we stopped in SC. We joined a membership that provides discounted prices for affiliate zoos and aquariums and so we visited the Greenville Zoo. The traveling life….. As “mostly full-timers” we travel 7’ish months of the year, moving every 2’ish weeks hitting some high points and taking the back roads. Our route is one Mike creates a year in advance noting the landmarks, biking, kayaking, canoeing, rafting, hiking, and anything else that looks interesting along the way all the while documenting our travels with his photography. I kindly refer to ourselves as “mid-wayers” as we don’t like aggressive hikes UNLESS they offer an AWESOME reward (like views or wildlife), we love rail-trails for biking but shy (me especially) from off-road/mtb rides, for boating we feel comfortable with any Class II or lower to do on our own but never shy away from extreme whitewater with a knowledgeable guide company, we like 1 and 2 nights out in the wilderness but also enjoy returning to the luxury of Rosie, our Monaco Diplomat. It was our “10-year” plan to begin this lifestyle in March 2020, having carefully prepared then suddenly right when we were to go LIVE, COVID struck. It didn’t slow us down just put more obstacles in our path. A lot more people are on the road with us making it challenging to enjoy the outdoors without “turons”, campsites are pricier and more difficult to book especially in hot spots but overall this is the life for us. For 5-months of the year we return to home base for all the reasons you “go home”, family, friends, medical care, work some, repairs, upgrades, and to begin the planning for the next year. We’ve tried work camping during this past winter and don’t completely hate it and will likely explore opportunities this winter. But during our “traveling” season of April - October, this isn’t an option. We have plans to start working on adding “world” travelers into our resume with overseas trips soon. It’s not a glamorous life, some of it can be challenging and we are often far from family but the good definitely outweighs the “bad” and this is the life for us…for now. None of us know what tomorrow will bring. Mourning the loss of a loved one or experiencing sadness is a natural part of the human experience. By giving ourselves the permission to grieve, we arm ourselves with the strength to heal and move forward. Secondly, adopting a mindset of resilience and optimism is crucial in finding motivation during challenging times. Though the road ahead can seem daunting, it is vital to remember that our ability to overcome adversity is limitless. By reframing our perspective and focusing on the opportunities that lie beyond the sadness, we open ourselves up to endless possibilities and renewed motivation. Lastly, it is essential to surround ourselves with a supportive community. Sharing our journey with others who understand our pain can provide comfort and encouragement. Cape Hatteras/Outer Banks, NC / Frisco Ntl Park Campground ✅ Cape Hatteras National Seashore and the Outer Banks of North Carolina was on our full-time RV travels bucket list for a long time. Jeanne, Hershey Pup and I finally made it on April 18th for a week’s stay! 😁 Two back-to-back ferry crossings from the south (Cedar Island, NC to Hatteras, NC), got us to the Frisco National Park Service Campground on the southern shores of Hatteras Island. Frisco Campground is about 20 minutes southeast of the renowned Cape Hatteras lighthouse. I had reserved site A-10 based on the satellite images that showed it would fit our 30’+ motorhome (with our toad parked sideways across the front of the site). It also showed plenty of openness for our rooftop solar panels. ☀️⚡️ Our site had nice views of the distant dunes and Atlantic ocean. 👉 Sites are $28/night, or $14/night with the National Parks Senior or Access pass. ___________ ✳️ Although this area is apparently known for mosquitoes and black flies(?), we experienced zero bugs! We also enjoyed no crowds and no traffic. It seems that mid/late-April…pre-season…was a fantastic time to be there! We hear that copious amounts of bug spray is required in-season! 🦟 🦟🦟🦟 ✳️ From the Frisco campground, we were able to do day trips to Ocracoke Island (via ferry), the Cape Hatteras and Bodie Island lighthouses, the Wright Brothers National Memorial and other sights north of Hatteras Island up and down Hwy 12. There are also plenty of good eateries all along Hwy 12. 🍎 🍎 🍎 🍎 “APPLE UGLIES”…, famously made at the Orange Blossom Bakery in nearby Buxton, about 15 minutes from the campground. Treat yourself…go get them…enjoy them!! Apple Uglies are like giant apple fritters, better than we have EVER had. Get there early. We were very close to a catastrophic RV generator failure 😬 Fortunately, Tom caught it in the nick of time while performing some routine maintenance items. Many RVs have generators, and all of them need some occasional TLC to keep running properly! Today is the last day of Earth Week and National Parks week. In the past 40 days we have hiked through @deathvalleynps @zionnps and @grandcanyonnps covering all types of terrain. A special thanks is in order to the people who choose to spend their lives protecting the land we love exploring. From the conservationist with @mypubliclands to the Rangers with the @nationalparkservice and all the way to the wardens with fish and game. These people are the reason we eve have places to explore. We genuinely enjoy spending most of our time outdoors which is why we are excited to tell everyone about our summer plans. Through our love for the outdoors and with the people who spend their days protecting the last of America's wilderness we have decided to alter our original plans of heading into Colorado and instead have partned with BLM to be camp hosts at a special and remote location in the PNW. In addition to being dope camp hosts, we will be working on trail management and special projects as the area we are headed to was recently hit by a wildfire. We are extremely excited to spend the next four months in the PNW as we have all kinds of plans to explore the area. We also have tons of adventures lined up with our PNW peeps and get to spend time nurturing relationships that may not always get the most of our time since staying in touch on the road can become tricky. We are looking forward to making the most out of the community while we are there. After all, while the desert has been gorgeous, it was also isolating. On to the next! Fools Hollow Lake SP, Show Low, AZ. Spacious, paved, mostly shaded sites which come with w/e/s, w/e only, clean restrooms, dump station, day use area, camp store, and boat rentals. The park also offers a 3.3 rt, mostly packed gravel, hiking trail, which encompasses the lake with beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. in addition, the campground is conviently located a minutes from downtown Show Low where you will find plenty of cafes, grocery stores, etc... And, slithering critters who may want to share the outdoor patio with you, such as this handsome dude. Luckily, he was not poisonous, but a bite will definitely be painful. Note: This time of year, there may be controlled burns in the area, so be aware of that. Luckily, the winds blew the smoke in another direction and away from our campground. When planning a trip to Custer State Park, it’s tough to know which campground to choose from, so let me give you the low down on where we stayed. Our site was #2E in the Game Lodge Campground. It was 50amp electric only, but there were water spigots throughout the park, as well as a dump station. This campground also has multiple shower houses & laundry. I’m not sure if a bad site exists in this loop. Our site was fairly level, extremely spacious and backed up to a meadow where deer were seen on the daily 😍 For $30 a night, I feel like we really scored with this place! Spring Cleaning in the RV this year took on a new meaning. Just like in any home I felt the need to spruce things up a bit. You know that feeling I’m talking about? When you look around your home you love, but you just need a REFRESH! So that’s what I did! No major overhauls! Nothing expensive (well maybe a few splurges) Just tweaking some little details that make it feel new again. 🤍A new velvet pillow that’s a total splurge from @magnolia 🤍new clear glass in the cabinet doors to brighten up the kitchen 🤍new metal bowl set with lids to put in those glass cabinets (practical and pretty) 🤍new sheets ( ours were thread bare!) 🤍lavendar Linen spray (this just makes me happy) 🤍new Scented Drawer liners 🤍a new throw blanket on the couch (another splurge from @magnolia (that’s what happens when you park your RV in Waco on the way home from the TX hill country🙈) Check our stories today to get a closer look in my new glass cabinet! We spent a couple of whirlwind days in New Orleans. There is a great RV Resort within walking distance of the French Quarter which was perfect for us so we didn’t even need to unhitch! Our days were filled with lots of walking in and out of shops and museums as well as trying all the must have foods. So excited, waiting on my Mom and My neice to arrive 🧐❤️🥰..( My First over night guests ). I started this morning trying to figure on the stove NEVWE FIGURED IT OUT!! I think I blew a fuse, good thing I found the fuse boxes 💯…0I found so many new treasure while trying to figure it out tho ❤️… 1. I found a built-in vacuum system for BLESSIN ❤️ 2. I located the water heater ..3. Located the clean water tanks eater..4. I figured out how to tirned the driver seat around 💯❤️…5. I figured out what the metal things weee fir along the outside of the rv…6. Found out the ice maker may really work!! 👀❤️…7. 👩🏼💻We knew with working remotely we had to make sure we had very strong (and reliable) internet 🛜 Starting out we used the T-Mobile internet box that we could use anywhere we could plug it in basically! 💰 The cost is $50 a month & I love it because I can even take it into the truck on long travel days! It works GOOD but still wasn’t the consistency we needed so we added in a second stream of internet connection with Starlink! Had a great travel day from Virginia Beach, VA up to Delaware Seashore State Park, DE! Love the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel crossing! EXCEPT…the two-way traffic parts inside each tunnel. Every passing semi truck has me white-nuckling the wheel! I know there’s room, but it feels sooooo narrow as they rush by!!!! ($37 toll) Stopped at a Tractor Supply in Onley, VA to fill our propane we tank. Day trip to the picturesque Bartlette Reservoir, approx. 22 miles east of Cave Creek, AZ. Today, the temperature was 90, so what better way to spend a hot day than on the crisp, cool waters of this beautiful lake. Near the entrance of the reservoir, a spacious, day use area offers multiple covered tables, firepits, and direct access to the beach. There is plenty of parking, yet the turnaround is very tight and may not be suitable for larger rigs. Fyi, the lake depth is down quite a bit, and the piers are no longer in the water. However, you will be able to launch SUP/kayaks from the shoreline. For those with larger watercraft, you will need to drive a few more miles easr to the main marina. In addition, you will find dispersed camping spots adjacent to the marina, some of which will be located along the banks of the Salt River.
