🇺🇸 After an overnight flight of eight hours, we landed in Lima, Peru. Immigration was a breeze, and we zipped through the airport in no time. We had pre-arranged an airport transfer. The morning traffic was intense; initially, we thought it was just the typical rush hour, but it turns out it’s like that all day long. Despite arriving at our hotel well before the official check-in time, our room was already prepared for us. It was incredibly convenient, allowing us some much-needed rest. The day was all about unwinding, recharging, and indulging in the local cuisine. The food here has been a delightful surprise so far. Tomorrow, we’re off to explore the city and uncover more of what Lima has to offer. //🇭🇺 Egy 8 órás éjszakai repülés után megérkeztünk Limába, Peruba. Az országba való belépés könnyen és gyorsan ment, így a reptéren is gyorsan átjutottunk. Megkerestük az előre foglalt reptéri transzferünket. A reggeli forgalom hatalmas volt, először azt hittük, hogy ez “csak” a reggeli csúcs, de aztán kiderült, hogy ez egész nap ilyen. A szállodába jóval azelőtt érkeztünk meg, amikor hivatalosan el lehet foglalni a szobát, az azonban mégis készen várt minket. Így nagyon kényelmes volt, egyből le tudtunk pihenni, amire nagy szükségünk volt. A nap főleg arról szólt, hogy kiheverjük az éjszakát, pihentünk és ettünk. Eddig nagyon meg vagyunk elégedve a helyi fogásokkal, minden nagyon finom volt. Holnap a tervek szerint kicsit jobban felfedezzük majd Limát.
Day 2144 - UBUD, BALI (INDONESIA 🇮🇩) LET'S GO FLY A KITE Bali is the first and only country in the world where we have seen hundreds of kites in the sky—and such huge kites! In fact, between June and September, Bali’s blue skies are decorated with colorful kites. The kite’s body can reach the size of 10 meters without the tail! During the dry and windy season, the Bali Kite Festival is held every year. It’s an international event and an important kite competition for hundreds of Balinese villages, where prizes are given to the biggest and most creative kites. However, like almost everything in Bali, kites have a religious and spiritual significance. For Balinese Hindus, kites are a way to get closer to the gods. They were originally used to send messages to the gods and to ask for a bountiful harvest. Creating these traditional kites is a complex process; all the villages participate in its construction, and offerings and prayers are made to bless it. We were thrilled to find a workshop in Ubud to learn more about the whole process, build our own kites, and share this experience with new friends! We shaved the bamboo sticks and wrapped them with string to build the frame, then glued silk cloth on it. The kites are foldable so we can travel with them. The next day we tested them in our neighbourhood. What I enjoyed most was watching adults helping our kids fly their kites and having just as much fun as them! So all I can say now is, "Let's go fly a kite!!!" DAY 118 🇺🇸 Today was our last day in Los Angeles, as it was just a quick stopover. After breakfast, we still had some time, so we first headed to the Historic Cactus Garden. Established in 1987, its purpose was not only to serve as a tourist attraction but also to preserve and conduct research on endangered species of cacti and succulents. Then we drove to Venice Beach, one of my favorite places in LA. I really love the vibrant and slightly chaotic vibe, as well as the sense of freedom you can experience there. Afterward, we had to return to the hotel to grab our bags and head to the airport. On the way, we stopped for a burger at In-N-Out again. After dropping off our rental car, we went to the airport. Despite the size of LAX, everything was quick. We are facing a long overnight flight and will arrive tomorrow morning. Nagyon szeretem a nyüzsgést, szabadságot és a színes kavalkádot ami itt van. Venice Beach után azonban a hotel felé kellett vennünk az irányt, felvenni a cuccainkat és elindulni a reptérre. Út közben még megálltunk egy hamburgerre az In-N-Outban. Miután leadtuk a bérelt autót, a reptérre mentünk. Hiába óriási a LAX, minden gyorsan ment. Egy hosszú, éjszakai repülés áll előttünk, holnap reggel fogunk megérkezni. Van esetleg tipp, hogy hova?

🌿🌞 Retour à la ferme avec une énergie renouvelée ! 🌱Après notre retour de vacances bien méritées, nous avons ajusté nos horaires de travail pour éviter les fortes chaleurs. Mais qui a dit que nous restions les bras croisés quand nous sommes fermés ? 🌱Nous avons commencé par la récolte des délicieuses mangues et litchis de notre jardin. Cette année, nous avons récolté beaucoup moins de litchis et de longanes en raison de la chaleur et du manque d’eau. Nous prévoyons également d’améliorer l’irrigation des fruitiers et construire plus de carrés potagers et ajouter de nouvelles planches de culture permanentes. 🌱Pendant ce temps, Aun explore de nouvelles recettes avec les trésors de notre ferme, et nous nous sommes même lancés dans des tests de fabrication de vin de riz et de fruits. 🍇🍷 🌱L’entretien de nos terres se fait désormais de 6h à 9h du matin, avant que le soleil ne devienne trop intense. Le reste de la journée ? Eh bien, nous sommes en vacances, après tout ! ☀️🌴 🌱Nous avons également repensé notre programme WWOOFing pour consacrer plus de temps à la cuisine et à la transformation de nos produits, ainsi qu’à la préparation de la nourriture pour nos adorables animaux de la ferme. 🐓🥕 🌱Nous sommes ravis de partager de bonnes nouvelles : le papa de Aun retrouve des forces et ma maman va également très bien. It’s always quite a game to figure out how to get to the other side of the world. We opted for Santiago as our departure city, since flights were less expensive than anywhere nearby in Argentina. We figured we’d drive our Jeep back over the pass, find a good place to store it, then hop on our plane. That was before we processed we were returning in South American winter. The pass is over 10,000 feet in elevation and gets dumped with snow. It closes—sometimes for 25 days straight. The problem was the Chile temporary import permit. What if it expired before the pass opened and we could drive the Jeep back into Argentina? So we were faced with a choice: cut our U.S. trip short to make sure we had enough time to negotiate the pass. OR buy a separate flight to Santiago and leave the Jeep in Argentina (where the temporary import permit is four times longer). We chose the latter—Eric with conviction, and me kicking and screaming. We took the one-hour flight from Mendoza to Santiago late on Saturday. It went smoothly, as we got to know a small, Chile-based airline we’d never heard of before now. We have three nights total in Santiago, before we start the red eye process back to the states late tomorrow. I have been struggling with travel planning. It can feel constant, all-consuming, with no break. When I fail to plan, I often regret it (the zoo is only open on weekends and online reservations are required). I am tired of having to always look ahead or risk something going awry. I have been in this place lately. I don’t want to appear like I’m complaining because I know I’m living an incredible life. I worked hard to get here and there is so much to love and appreciate. But I also want you to be happy where you are. Long-term travel has downsides and they’re not always talked about. While I’m not ready to stop, I’ve been thinking about it more often in the past year than in our 10 years of full-time travel put together. I have been thinking weird things lately. About YouTube, inspiration, the human craving to feel understood. Maybe I listen to too many podcasts.

Amazed by the power and beauty of Niagara Falls!! I went as a child, but going back over spring break a couple of weeks ago was absolutely mesmerizing … and my favorite part … watching the kids get pummeled by the spray of the falls 😂 I recommend staying near the falls so that you can walk to most of these points on the Canada side (best hotels with incredible views: Marriott & Embassy). We walked along the falls but also did the Canada’s City Cruises which takes you by boat right by the falls and you get soaking wet! We also did the Journey Behind the Falls which was neat, but meh (you stand a hallway away and watch the back of the falls). You can also experience similar things on the US side with Maid of the Mist and Cave of the Winds. It offers ideas to connect with your children, but also conversation starters with other parents and children about family life. As a writer and researcher, I appreciated the following aspects of the book. First, she took the time to survey people, but also a wide variety of people. She had quotes from those in the military, non-profit, typical expat and those in ministry. Anna also, quotes from other resources to prove her points on connecting with children. The division of the book was in three parts (‘before you go’, ‘going’, and ‘once you are there’), which makes it easy to find the section that is needed. Home is where you park it 〰️ It’s been 4 months of adventuring in Lola Coaster 🚌. It’s taken some getting used to, an adjusting from life as it was. But having an ever-changing backyard as an endless stretch of sand, sea, forest, bush and blue skies is quite incredible, especially for the children. Their joy says it all. DAY 117 🇺🇸 Today was pretty low-key. We grabbed breakfast at the last second, still shaking off the jet lag. Then we figured, why not live like locals? We hit up the shopping center nearby, did a bit of browsing and some actual shopping, enjoyed a leisurely lunch and coffee, then took a casual drive around the block before heading back to the hotel. It was the perfect chill day we needed to unwind and recharge. // 🇭🇺A mai nap nem volt különösebben érdekes. Az utolsó pillanatban értünk oda a reggelihez, mert még mindig érezzük az időeltolódás hatásait. Ezután úgy döntöttünk, hogy legyen ez egy laza nap, nagyjából olyan, mintha itt élnénk. Ezért elmentünk a közeli bevásárló központba, bóklásztunk, nézelődtünk, vásároltunk egy kicsit. Majd ebédeltünk és kávéztunk, és autóztunk egy kicsit a környéken. Ezután vissza mentünk a szállodába. Tökéletes pihenő nap volt ez, jó volt egy kicsit csak úgy semmi különöset sem csinálni és feltöltődni.

Lots going on behind the scenes here! 😮💨🙃🤪 We always take time to play though - and of course hit up the pool, ate a ton of good food, and spent quality time together as a family. 💞💞💞 A highlight was getting to visit Puerto Aventuras, where we visited with friends whom I (Mama K) hadn’t seen in over 20+ years - and we had the BEST time!! 😍🙏🐬 Looking forward to what’s about to unfold in the coming weeks here. Much of downtown Ellicott CIty is being rebuilt after nearly back-to-back floods in 2016 and 2018. Our traveling school teacher builds local relationships everywhere we go. Here in Crete, the kids have been paying weekly visits to the elementary school in town. The school has been so welcoming, arranging lots of activities each time. Our kids have practiced archery with an instructor (Crete is historically known for its expert archers), danced, made local cookies, dyed eggs for orthodox Easter, and eaten numerous Cretan treats made by the local teachers and parents. They’ve received many gifts from their generous hosts. The school even had our kids leave permanent mementos on their walls with handprints and signatures. This hospitality will create forever memories for our children. This is yet another benefit of traveling school. If we’d come on our own, this kind of visit and cultural exchange wouldn’t have happened. Many thanks to Agia Pelagia Elementary School and to our teacher for creating this beautiful experience. Jerewan. Eine unglaublich grüne und bunte Stadt. Da unsere Kinder nicht ganz fit waren, haben wir leider nicht so viel erkunden können. Neben den für uns üblichen Spielplatzbesuchen in Städten und den anstehenden Erledigungen, ging es zur blauen Moschee und auf den Markt (den die Kinder nach allen angebotenen Naschereien zum probieren und geschenktem Obst mit noch größeren Bauchschmerzen verlassen haben😅) Zwischen Wäschewaschen, Wassertank reinigen und Co in einem Appartement für die Nacht, konnten wir den trubeligen Ausblick über Jerewan genießen. Nach dem kurzen Schlenker durch Georgien, da die Grenze zwischen Türkei und Armenien geschlossen ist, sind wir in Armenien angekommen. Wir wurden von unzähligen Störchen begrüßt, die auf jedem Strommast in den Dörfern in ihren Nestern sitzen. Unser erster Stopp war der Arpisee im gleichnamigen Nationalpark. Hier konnten wir Pelikane (nur durchs Fernglas), jede Menge Möwen, Hasen und Mäuse beobachten. Die Hasen kamen immer mal wieder um unser Lager gehoppelt 🤩. Bei einer kleinen Erkundungstour durch den Wald konnten die Kinder den Lauf der Dinge sehr gut erfahren. Wir fanden ein paar Fellüberreste verspeister Häschen, haarige Losung, eine (vermutlich) Hundekopf, weitere Knochen und jede Menge Tierspuren in den Schneeresten. #rooftoptent #travelingfamily #4x4 #adventure #offroad #armenia #minimalistic #landrover #discovery2td5 #travel
