Trying to catch up a little! In February, we returned to one of our favorite spots: Palm Springs! We were happy to be with friends both old and new most of the month. I was able to take a solo side trip to Utah to meet my new nephew and surprise my mom for her birthday. At the end of the month, we said goodbye to CA after nearly 5 months exploring, adventuring and enjoying the pleasant CA winter weather. Here's a few favorite memories: 1. Sunrise and sunset among the palm trees never got old 2. Lots of snuggles with Gibson 3. I was so happy to see my family and spend so much time with my mom! 4. It was a bittersweet prom night last night and everyone looked absolutely fabulous. Capturing my last Prom as a mom gave me all the feelings and I am so happy that their night was full of beautiful memories as all proms should be. My 3 kids have never had to miss out on school dances and that's all because they pick up jobs wherever we land and make friends with people all over that stay in touch with them. They get to attend real dances and have beautiful dates. Using school experiences as a reason not to travel the world is an excuse that doesn't hold water for us, because we made it a point to listen to our kids once they got older and stay long, move when it was time and involve them in the travel plans. They did the research on jobs that were easy transfers and then they made friends, have girlfriends and boyfriends and now are off to college. They have not missed out on life, they were blessed to enrich their life. Dr Saleha Mahmud-Ritter was a Pediatric Dentist, and thought she had her future all planned out. Then she had a few kids, the first of which was tongue tied and her world shifted. Dr Saleha realized she didn't learn about tongue tie in dental school (unfortunate fact- it's not taught in medical, dental, nursing, speech, or lactation school!!) and that she wasn't prepared for this (as most parents of tongue tie babies aren't). Now Dr Saleha has completely left regular pediatric dentistry, is solely focused on tongue tie and oral airway and couldn't be happier. Well maybe if she had a team (a skilled IBCLC, bodyworker, Myofunctional therapist) in her office but she's working on it. Expectations can be a bit tricky. The first time we visited Hot Spring National Park we didnโt really know what to expect, but after spending time in parks like Yosemite and the Great Smoky Mountains our expectations for a national park were set pretty high. And if youโve been to Hot Springs NP, you know that it is quite different from other national parks. Honestly, the first time we drove in, we didnโt even realize we were actually โin the parkโ. Because of our initial expectations of beautifully flowing natural hot springs (not realizing that there is only one actual hot spring visible above ground and the remaining are all capped off), we only spent time walking through the visitorโs center, the historic bath houses, taking the mountain tower tour and unfortunately left a bit underwhelmed. Fast forward after four years of full-time travel, and now knowing what to actually expect, we approached our recent visit with a completely different mindset. This time around we enjoyed spending more time walking around, taking in a bit more history of the area and instead of trying to compare it to other national parks, look for the uniqueness of what this national park has to offer. Itโs just a reminder that yes we will come across things that donโt match up with our expectations, but it shouldnโt stop us from taking a step back and seeing it from a different perspective, while also keeping an open mind when it comes to our expectations. It's in the details, I brought home these gorgeous #Talavera numbers from #Queretaro while in Mexico and knew they were perfect for one of our lots. I plan on buying more when I go back this winter so that we can have a cohesive theme at every one of our RV lots, but for now I will stare at this one! Once our kids got older and wanted to stay with friends longer and have jobs, we knew it was time to stop puddle jumping and park for months at a time, we bought a few lots throughout the country and are in the process of building a small retirement house as well. There is something to be said about mixing up your surroundings and views as you travel. As much as we have absolutely loved the sunset desert skies of Arizona ๐ต the past couple of months, itโs also a great feeling to be back in an area that is surrounded by so much green ๐ณ. Weโve realized that spending time away from different environments can help reignite our appreciation for them. Take warm weather, for example. Our focus has mainly been to chase shorts ๐ฉณ and flip flop ๐ฉด weather. After five years of full-time travel, although we still prefer sunshine and 70s, we have reached a place where we happily welcome a cool overcast or rainy day where we can turn the fireplace on and bundle up a bit. Do we want to do it all the time, probably not? But we have definitely grown to appreciate them throughout our warm weather travels. The closest Iโve come to a babysitter since we left Colorado was finally saying yes to letting the kids rent these banana/ATV bikes! They rode around happily for an hour, doggo and I chilled on the love seat. And I was rewarded with tired kiddos who went to bed without a fight that night. It may look like weโre always on the go - and for the most part we are because thereโs so much to see! But we do schedule one full โhome dayโ every week, where we donโt even leave the campground. We also try not to do too much on any single day (though this has been more challenging in places where we only stay a week!) and we often chill out with a movie at dinner time (currently watching all the Star Wars movies in order!) When your big kids decide to go to Mexico! I love that they have fully embraced a beautiful country through their own eyes and not what they hear from people that don't travel or from the news! I'm Mexican and married a white guy, so yesssss they look white AND they still feel good traveling to and within Mexico alone. Independence is what we teach our kids and I'm so proud to see it, I still love hugging the crap out of them when they land but knowing that they have the confidence to see the world on their own and the money to finance it on a surprise...yup, that's true success. My kids talk to me every night, they text me throughout the day but at the end of it all, we both cut the cord because it's our job to teach them to fly, NOT to hold them back. I started because of this little babe. Itโs a no brainer than one infant in daycare is costly.. but have you priced out two infants. ๐ I knew daycare for two we couldnโt afford, I knew twins themselves was costly.. heck one was expensive, I knew we were going to have to change. I dug into what I knew, I took the time to learn more && the last two years I have done everything to g r o w and us be home with them fulltime. We left the corporate world. We paid off debt. We both came home full time. Our life may not be typical, But our life is what I work for every day. Because that career, your job, the time to yourself.. itโll be there in time. Stopped at a mall in the Portland area on our way North to say hi to a sweet friend! Glenn is the sweet son of Lois and Dale. When we had dinner with them in Feb, he started talking to Jo about running, which led to them going for a run and then Glenn asking us if he could gift Josiah a pair of running shoes to help achieve running goals!
