We are in country of Turkmenistan that used to be part of the Soviet Union. It is a very closed off country and not very easy to get a visa for entry. This intrigued us to visit there. We spent 6 days touring the country from Ashgabat, which is the capital and then over to Merv to see some archaeological ruins then over to Darvaza and Kunya-Urgench. Ashgabat is a very surreal place. It was a city built by the 2nd president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow that headed an authoritarian regime in the country. All of the buildings/apartments are made of white marble. If you own a car there, it can only be white, silver or gold in color. The city is known for the Guinness book records they have such as the largest indoor Ferris wheel, the biggest carpet and largest concentration of white marble buildings. We visited many of the monuments both during the day and night. At night the city is lite up like Las Vegas. We also visited the Carpet Museum which Turkmenistan is famous for. Then we visited the ancient city of Merv that was built in the 3rd century BC. Couldn’t believe the city walls and some buildings made of mud bricks still survived to this day. Stopped at the local Mary Museum to see some of the artifacts and local clothing. Outside of Ashgabat we visited a horse farm where they breed Akhal-Teke horses. This is a purebred horse that goes back centuries. In fact many horses today are found to have some of their DNA. They are breed for horse racing which is a passion of the Turkmen. Now we headed to the most instagrammable place in the country, the Darvaza gas crater also known as the “Gates of Hell”. At over 100 ft deep and 200 ft across the origin of the crater has a few stories on how it started. Then in the 1970’s engineers choose to set fire to the crater to prevent the emission of poisonous gases. . 【土庫曼 🇹🇲（一）中亞北韓？】 土庫曼呢一個國家好似經常被國際社會嘅大舞台所遺忘，最多人認識呢一個國家就係佢被稱為中亞北韓。一個同北韓相似嘅政權：半開放嘅國度、所有政治決定都係嚟自一個人身上、國家領導人嘅個人崇拜、嚴重限制出入境、立法機構橡皮圖章、媒體成為國家機器（明嘅就明）。 而家比我助手ChatGPT比個五十字嘅土庫曼簡介： 土庫曼是一個位於中亞地區的國家，首都為Ashgabat。該國以其豐富的天然氣和石油資源而聞名，並且擁有美麗的沙漠景觀和歷史悠久的絲綢之路遺跡。土庫曼政府實行強烈的個人崇拜和中央集權制度。該國的經濟主要依賴於天然氣出口和棉花種植。土庫曼人民以友好好客的態度和豐富多樣的文化傳統而著稱。 以上種種原因都令我一直都想去親眼見證呢一個神秘嘅國度，到底佢有幾奇怪、有幾封閉、有幾北韓。仲有一個更加重要嘅原因就係好想去一次地獄之門 - 一個天然氣開採意外現在，一燒就燒咗五十年。 做過好多research發現要自己一個去土庫曼再拎埋travel visa係一件難過登天嘅事，所以我搵咗間travel agency嘅土庫曼團，十日九夜包酒店包國內交通，萬三蚊港紙左右。 土庫曼另外稱為中亞北韓，條街好多秘密警察，亦都嚴禁外國記者入境。旅客入境要整電話卡上網難過登天，酒店餐廳會有wifi，但係social media完全封鎖晒，用vpn都無用，唯一用到嘅係email同埋wiki。 所以呢十日可以算係social media detox，同埋靠email同外界聯絡，仲要好慢… 杜拜搭去Istanbul再轉機去土庫曼首都Ashgabat，前後用咗10個鐘。 Istanbul新機場真係成個shopping mall咁，又大又新，仲有人向到表演 諗住屌個老麥，痴線一個巨無霸餐加大要兩舊水港紙:o)最後見到SaltBae灑鹽佬價錢同老麥差唔多就揀咗佢。個漢堡包真心幾高汁，起碼對得起個價錢，佢仲要比埋對黑手套你 落機到Ashgabat已經係凌晨兩點，一開始以為有中亞北韓之稱嘅土庫曼班機會好少人搭，點知係完全相反，坐機滿座，仲要大部份土庫曼人係去完土耳其旅行，然後一袋二袋戰利品咁帶上機。 一落機就已經震撼教育，全機人都要排隊等比人屌鼻，估唔到2024年，土庫曼政府都咁認真看待疫情… 唔怪得佢哋總統之前就話土庫曼係無疫情出現過，原來係防疫把關做得好。 遊客嘅話，比人屌鼻盛惠30美金，當地人一蚊都唔駛，未出境先比人劏一刀。 屌完鼻之後遊客就要排隊整visa，講緊有20幾個遊客，但visa counter得一個櫃枱。去土庫曼旅行一定要有letter of invitation，如果唔跟tour agency理論上好難自己班到番嚟，呢個都係其中一個原因我跟團。 整visa再盛惠100美金，換句話說，未出境已經比咗130美金。 拎完visa比完錢出到接機大堂已經係朝早5點鐘，我哋個導遊已經向到等我哋，齊人之後就搭旅遊巴去酒店，沿路導遊都講咗啲規矩，最重要嘅係：咩都可以影，但軍人、警察同埋政府building就絕對唔可以影，比人周到嘅話就要當場check手機，再刪相，而呢個回力鏢第二日我就中到應一應… 到咗酒店之後搞晒所有check in手續，出去呼吸一下。 呢到順便講埋，因為土庫曼食煙資訊好少，去之前上網睇講到禁煙好嚴，又話煙好貴，去到點知個個都係煙鏟，室外盡量唔好食煙，室內就個個都食。 土庫曼買煙上網睇講到有錢都買唔到，點知去到都係講緊廿蚊港紙一包，但係你要識單眼佬，去到士多要講暗號，然後佢就會向櫃底拎個黑色膠袋出嚟比你揀，全部煙都係伊朗煙，應該都係偷運過嚟土庫曼。 言歸正傳，向酒店花園擺pose之際，我認識咗第一個土庫曼嘅朋友，黑貓公，完全唔驚人，一野跳咗上我大髀，又不停咁撞我… 最後坐咗差唔多半個鐘先翻房… #hk #hkig #hkigers #travel #travelhk #hktraveller #hktravel #travelgram #turkmenistan🇹🇲 #turkmenistan #doortohell #gatesofhell #darvaza #香港 #土庫曼 #土庫曼斯坦 #地獄之門 #ashgabat
