During my stay at the farm I learned a lot of nature, animals and how to be together in harmony. For me some moments where really crossing bounderies. In the sense of stepping out of my comfortzone... Luckely on some moments Jana, the other volunteer, was there to teach me some 'skills'. She had a lot of experience with horses for example. When we bumped in these free horses she showed me how to approuch them and get closer. Which movements they like and dis like. She gave me a lot more convidence and the next time when I met them again I was happy to see them. It's very special to be surrounded by free horses and experience they are interested and curious about you, same as you are with them. There where four moving around the farm together. As you can see, one is a very unique. Her parents are a combination of a horse and a zebra. Which gives this magnificant pattern and colours. Beautiful if you ask me. Many gatherings followed after the first meeting and it made me more comfortable at the end. A few of you have asked me about my work ethic and what drives me. I’ll share a few thoughts. I am constantly encouraged by the people I surround myself with. Their energy continues to drive me. I don’t have to have a conversation with you in order to be pushed. Presence alone makes a huge impact!!! Despite what you see and what you may believe nothing comes easy for me. The reality is I am just like many of you. I go through struggles. Life challenges me just like you. I have good days and not so good ones. The fact that I’m allowed to get up each morning and go to sleep each night is something I don’t take for granted. This morning: Got in and got it done, less than 3 weeks to go so a few more HARD workouts left! Shout out to my strength coach @derek_filer for my monthly programs! He adds in all kinds of mobility movements to keep the joints happy and strong, and gives me new things to do every month so I’m always challenged to try new things. I used to be really uncomfortable trying new movements in the gym for fear of being judged, but I’ve realized that honestly no one is really watching you 😂 I don’t watch anyone else while I workout I’m focused on me, so I just assume that’s the case with most people in the gym. Which it is, most people are there just to get in, work, and get out. So when I get to work on something new it actually excites me now! I'm well aware that I spend much of my time cosplaying a suburban mom. But when people find out who I really am- I hear the word "bravery" a lot. Brave for being open about my mental health. Brave for being open about my neurodivergence. Brave for being open about my queerness. I don't hide who I am. Not because I'm brave, but because I can't. I seem to be constitutionally unable to hide myself- to behave in ways that would help me blend in. That would make other people more comfortable around me. I'm not good at masking. What I am GREAT at is armouring up. Refusing to let people's assumptions or judgements get to me. Deflecting the things that hurt. Weilding my willingness to make other people uneasy like a weapon. I'm well aware that, in the grand scheme of things, the burdens I carry are light. I know other folks are out there bearing things I'll never understand. I honor the weight of that knowing. But sometimes I wish I could move through the world differently, softly, certain that I'll be met with safety and comfort and kindness. It seems wild to imagine that in the face of all the ways the world is burning, making art and community could be of any use. And yet, this is where I shrug off my armor, and breathe. Where I spill words and pictures and dream that we come together to take off our masks, drop our weapons, and build stories and poems and community. To me- that soft place is where bravery really lives. So I continue to chase it, in my art and life and here, with you. May you find places, here and beyond, where you don't need to be brave to be yourself. I finally settled into my usual sleep spot, and fell asleep. I like to sleep between mom's legs. Cookie, on the other hand, was still confused. She could not understand why we were not going home. She heard the neighbor come home around midnight, and she started "boofing"... you know, the low barks that sound like "boof" Anyways, mom got her to quiet down, before she got loud. She eventually joined us, and she too, slept between moms legs. It wad different sleeping at Auntie's house. We are just used to our visits, but in the morning, I heard mom, auntie, and my cousins talking about doing it again soon. Two months ago I went to the #humanesocietyofbloominggrove and brought home the lovely #cleokitty She has come so far since then. She’s out of the closet and off her ESB (emotional support box) everyday for most of the day. She still does most of her playing overnight but since I have my Cleo cam I can watch her. She plays like a kitten sometimes even though she’s seven years old. She’s still a bit shy of me, but she has gotten so comfortable in her new surroundings, I know she’ll come to realize I’m not scary. She really likes to bask in the late afternoon sun.
