Has anyone told you that it’s okay to cry? Or that it’s okay to feel down sometimes? Avoiding negative emotions can leave the pain and trauma stuck inside of your body. We often times try anything we can to numb the pain because society tells us that negative emotions are shameful. The truth is, what we should be doing is talking gentle to ourselves. We should be telling ourselves “it’s okay to cry, that hurts”, or “your sadness is valid because that was messed up”. Sometimes pain is a sign that you are healing because feeling is healing. Every time you shun negative emotions and try to numb them, you are abandoning yourself. You are kind of gaslighting yourself. If your under the weather today, try validating your feelings and comforting yourself. Choose love instead of negative self talk. Tell yourself that it is okay. You are valid. Let the emotions run through you so they can run out of you. Lesson of the Month! Firstly I would like to clarify the ‘artist’ part of this - it doesn’t relate to just “traditional” artists but to all who have a craft, a gift or a passion. I think so many of our daily pursuits are art in their own way. Now to the actual caption 😂 I struggle with creative slumps every now and again but this latest one was next level. I’d lay in bed wondering if I’d ever have a unique creative thought in my head again & it really affected me day to day. I was miserable & I sat in the studio trying to FORCE something out but led to work I was less happy with. Being a full time artist, it’s my job to be creative, to think ahead by a few months, to have a plan and when that doesn’t happy it is a scary prospect. Then, a few weeks ago, I got out the clay, I sat down with no thoughts about what I was going to make and I let it flow. I let the clay decide, I let my intuition - of what those balls of mud wanted - guide me And let me tell you, I’m BEYOND excited by what’s coming up in the next collection! The other day, I was baffled by the fact that I’ve been deeply desiring to find our perfect new house at the beach, but despite my best manifesting efforts (which usually work gloriously) for me in the past, I felt like this particular house didn’t exist…the search felt hard and stressful. I shared the story recently with my mastermind clients just a few days ago because I had a huge realization late last week… “I was attracting the wrong thing because I was being the wrong thing.” This realization came to me during my meditation and the questions I heard from my Higher Self during that meditation were, “Where is this desire coming from? Is it from your shadow or your soul? That was not a fun question to answer lol 😂 “What does this house have to do with your higher purpose?” When the answers came to me it gave me a feeling and a perspective that looked quite different from what I was envisioning in my head. This is what happens when you get in touch with your higher purpose/self and actually create your reality (whether in business or life) FROM THERE. But if you’re on a spiritual path (and you probably are if you’re a transformational entrepreneur or modern mystic)…you're gonna get checked at the border before crossing to the other side and actually manifesting that thing you want. To me, ceramics are extra magical - that ball of mud gets turning into something beautiful & solid that holds liquid & doesn’t disintegrate. Tonight I really have no words except for WOW!! This couldn’t be more fitting than it is today. I have spent the weekend at the most wonderful retreat hosted by the beautiful Jo and surrounded by some incredible & beautiful souls. Being back under canvas, in nature & tapping in to the wildness within has been just the medicine I needed! More than that though, it made such a change to be PRESENT! No distractions with work, family, devices - just my thoughts, feelings and likeminded women to vibe off of 🙌 I danced. I talked. I took my first cold water dip. I laughed. I howled at the moon (literally) and I cried ALOT. I am now utterly exhausted but my soul feels so incredibly free this evening. What’s the connection between labradorite, moonstone & clay?! I don’t think I will ever get bored of looking at them and marvelling at their beauty. Some of you might have read about the link between labradorite, moonstone & clay in a post last week. If you missed it I’m going to tell you again because finding this out has deepened my love for all 3!! Clay is formed in the earth when weathering and erosion of rock and a mineral called feldspar occurs. Both labradorite and moonstone are feldspar minerals and are also formed deep in the earth. It blows my mind 🤯 that all of this is happening below our feet, daily, unbeknown to us as we go about our business! The premise for this collection was always to showcase the best Mother Nature has to offer so when I found out that gorgeous nugget of information recently it seemed like such divine timing. This couldn’t be more fitting to introduce you to the concept between the upcoming collection! Nature connects us in so many ways - the moon governs the tides, plants need water to grow and flourish. They also need earth. Clay is formed in the earth through a complex process of weathering and erosion of rocks that contain a mineral called feldspar. Crystals are formed deep deep in the earth over hundreds, sometimes millions of years. All of the above are things that are so dear to me. Things that are in some way all connected. So, I wanted to make a collection that honours all of my greatest loves. Together. What makes this collection even more special is the crystals I have chosen to use are labradorite and moonstone. Two crystals that have had a place in my heart since I first discovered them. The best part of that? ✨Mandala Plate✨ When I said the other day I’d been doing a lot of carving, I really meant it 😂🙈 Many moons ago, I studied Buddhism as part of my GCSE & A Level RE and I fell in love with many of the practices of Buddhist culture. I actually think this is where I started my spiritual journey although I didn’t realise it at the time. I totally fell in love with the peace, inclusion and acceptance that Buddhism stands for. Mandalas are a deep rooted part of Buddhism and were used for teaching and healing with the idea that the circle of the mandala represents the Universe and everything inside is connected with infinite potential. As Mandalas made their way into Western Spiritual practices they began to represent more of our own spiritual journey, working from the outside ourselves inwards. There is the belief that mandalas can aid spiritual healing by pulling the energy created by the patterns, colours and shapes towards the person that requires the healing. The thing I love most about spirituality is that it is deeply personal and allows us to draw inspiration from a wide variety of sources. I designed this as a ritual plate to be used however you wish - as an altar plate, for gridding practices, as an offering plate or to hold all of your treasures! Whilst self love, body confidence and body positivity is - and always will be - at the heart of what I do, I wanted to change things up a little bit & explain to you why. As we got closer to the end of 2022 I was finding myself feeling increasingly lost, confused about my path and not treating myself with the respect I deserve because, honestly, my self worth had taken a knock. During the Christmas break I was able to sink within and reflect on why I had been feeling that way and it became increasingly clear to me that I had let my spiritual and self care practices come to a halt. Without them, I realised that I had no connection to who I am at my core which led to those feelings of being lost and confused. From the beginning of #bodypotsitive I have always aimed to bring pieces of art that come from my heart & soul so, a collection that takes me back to the heart of my spirituality felt like absolutely the right thing to do. I wanted this collection to be soulful, organic and pure with lots of earthy vibes, and simple glazing. There are, of course, some brighter pieces but a lot celebrate the beauty of the natural clay with a simple clear glaze. The b00bs will be back at some point but for now, I am fully submerged in this new phase and when the time is right it will evolve into whatever is meant to be.
