Let’s talk sustainability! 🌎 This #luckybamboo is in an old pasta sauce jar I washed out. I’m always saving containers and jars to use for my plants or other purposes. They’ve come in handy so many times, and I’d say about 1/5 of my plants are potted in recycled jars. A lot of people only consider the 3 R’s: reduce, reuse, and recycle. ♻️ But there are some other ‘R’s’ such as ‘refuse’ or ‘rot’. ‘Refuse’ refers to just saying no to products you don’t need, don’t use, or already have. 🚫 Your consumerism plays a big role in your carbon footprint, so just by reducing the amount of products you consume reduces your carbon footprint. It can be as simple as saying no to a plastic straw while you’re out eating, or deciding to not buy a shirt you were gonna get cuz maybe it looks similar to one you already have. The other concept is ‘rot’ which I think deals with food waste and composting.🗑 I’m currently learning more and more about composting, and I’d like to start my own bin at my house soon after I’ve done a little more research. Food waste is a big problem, and it’s such a shame to throw away food or scraps just for it to sit and rot in a landfill. That’s where compost comes in. You can create a compost bin and put organic matter in it, such as an apple core or food scraps, and it eventually rots and decomposes into the soil in the bin, which you can then use to fertilize your plants!! 🌱 . There are a lot of ways in which you can reduce your carbon footprint. My aloe baby is getting big and putting out a lot of pups 😍 . . . I got this plant as a two inch aloe and it has struggled a lot but grown a lot. It was almost on the brink of death at one point because it was getting too much water from the sprinklers, and the sun was burning the edges of the leaves. But now she stands, resilient and powerful, and I try to use that as inspiration. My plants are my friends and they are very much full of life. I promised y’all I’d have a time lapse of my begonia🥁... so here it is! 🥳 . . . This is the first time lapse video I’ve ever taken, and as you can see I have two videos cuz I did realize a few things after I started the first time lapse. 1) I should have my phone plugged in and 2) I spilled some water that needed to be cleaned up.🤣 I had a lot of fun doing this especially because the video shows how my plant moves and reacts to getting watered after being “thirsty”. My beautiful plant I got from an old coworker has started flowering! Swipe to see a clearer picture of the foliage and more flowers.🥰 . I’m not sure exactly what type of plant this is, but I think it’s related to mint. I originally started out with a few rooted cuttings my coworker gave me. She had brought them into the flower shop to use in a bouquet and she had some leftover, so I took them home and planted them. And they kind of just took off. I have them in a very large ceramic pot outside, where it receives mostly full sun, and gets watered by the sprinklers when they go off. This plant has been growing for over a year now, and it’s thriving. I love how the foliage has so much variation in its color. Some leaves are green and white, green and lighter green, or white!!! My #peperomiafrost has been so fun to propagate! 🥰 I took some cuttings and stuck them in water about 3-4 weeks ago and they have finally rooted enough to be planted (for the most part). Some more leaves are being propagated currently as well. Just look at those roots and baby leaves getting ready to rise up🌿 . My peperomia started to have some problems with what could possibly be stem rot. The soil was kept consistently moist in a ceramic pot and I think the soil wasn’t able to dry out enough. Some of the leaves keep getting ‘soft’ and ‘soggy’ feeling and tear right off, so I’ve decided that I’m going to take the little babies and un-rotted leaves and propagate them into new plants to save my plant for sure! Begonia’s (broadly speaking) enjoy bright, indirect light and to dry out a bit between waterings. Their intricate foliage and unique texture make it a plant that doesn’t want its leaves wet, so no misting. Water at the base of your plant or do a bottom feeding to protect your plant from problems like powdery mildew. #propogationstation 🌱 The other day I got this succulent propagation tray ready. I can’t wait to see all these little babies turn into big plants soon. 🥰 . When taking succulent leaves for propagation, it is important to make sure you don’t rip the leaf from the stem, but rather, gently move the leaf side to side until it splits perfectly from the mother plant. If it’s a clean tear then you can lay the leaf in some moist, well-draining soil and it should begin to sprout roots and a new plant within a few weeks! If it wasn’t a clean tear, you can get rid of the leaf because it won’t propagate. Don’t feel discouraged if you’re having problems, just keep trying with new leaves! Some #wildflowers have popped up in my garden because I sprinkled wild bird seeds around so the birds could eat the bugs in my garden, but didn’t think that the seeds would sprout up!! #growsberry
