Very late but I decided to participate in Chicago Bookstore Crawl #IBDCHI24 this year for indie bookstore day 📚 Staring off at Bucket O' Blood bookstore, making my way down to Skunk Cabbage Books and ending at City Lit Books on Kedzie, with two others in between who were not participating. So really I went to 3 that were listed 😭 but it was an attempt. And then I continued the next day at The Book Shop in Batavia where you can fill a bag of books for $25. This Independent Bookstore Day was everything I needed. Post-layoff, and especially after this past week, I really needed this day of celebrating bookish spaces and the incredible bookstore owners of Chicago. 7 hours, 15 bookstores! I had to restrain myself while still supporting our amazing indies. I tried to funnel my energy into buying books for my friends’ kids, but even so, I took home a good couple reads for myself. And now I have 15% off for the year! Thanks to my partner for taking photos and helping me to carry all these books, and to all the kind booksellers I saw in person today. 🩵

In Chicago, we marked Indie Bookstore Day by embarking on a bus tour to explore nine charming bookshops! Among the gems we discovered were Harvey’s Tales, The Book Table, The Pile Bookstore, and the Bookstore of Glen Ellen. I consider Independent Bookstore Day a religious holiday. Ever since I moved to Chicago, I've committed to hitting fifteen bookstores (if I'm in town). I've made it through countless rainstorms, a late-April blizzard, and the occasional, rare, perfect sunny day. Like today. I visited some old favorites (hello, @wcfbook and @bookcellarchicago and @bookends_and_beginnings and @volumesbooks and @bookedevanston!) and made some new bookstore friends (like @goblin.mkt and @theunderstudychi and @skunkcabbagebooks!) and got a new book from an old friend and was seduced by a t-shirt, of all things (earplugs included, though not pictured) and even ran into @amybdanger, which always makes a good day even better! #teamindie #chilovebooks #ibdchi24
