☀️H A P P Y M O N D A Y☀️ I hope you all had a fabulous weekend! My weekend was pretty relaxing, spent mostly reading and watching various sporting events. I finally got back on the cowboy train and read Heartless and 🥵🥵 Daddy Cade 🥵🥵. This week I’ll be finishing up an audio of Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan (SO GOOD but very triggering and I had to take my time with it in the first half). I’m starting Anita de Monte Laughs Last for a book club we are starting at work, and I’m really excited to begin doing that with the students! I’ve also started my re-watch of Bridgerton in preparation for Polin’s season and I CANNOT WAIT because the chemistry between those two might kill me. I love having sports in the background and my boyfriend and I have also been watching the NBA playoffs. Now that my team is out (RIP Heat), I’m cheering on Minnesota for the win! I’ve still got a few arcs and book club reads I’m prioritizing, but I’m finally at a point where I get to be a bit more of a mood reader, and I can’t wait to fully embrace it. ✨ New books day ✨ Q: Where tdo.you get your books? My recent orders just came in and I picked them up from my local bookstore on the way home. The waiting time is a bit longer sometimes but going there, browsing and talking about books is a lot more fun than just ordering from Amazon. Also they help pick out the good version of books that match the ones I already have 💯 📗 Luckily I could get the hardcover version of Godkiller by Hannah Kaner without waiting for a reprint in 3 months or something. 📘 I also got "Rivers of London" by Ben Aaronovitch… finally trying this series after the glowing review by @_lorelei_reads . I'll get all of them for the upcoming summer vacation if they are as good as advertised 😅 Unfortunately I bent one cover edge already while hurrying through the rain 🙈 I need to get into the habit of bringing a bag again. Happy Monday, lovelies.🧚🏻♀️✨ I need to know if any of y’all practice active self care, and if so how you do it. 😂 I’ve been feeling more run down than usual lately. Work is really busy, I’m traveling a lot over the next couple months, and the querying anxiety spiral is constant. I’m in a pretty mentally healthy space in my life at the moment, but the exhaustion is still starting to show, and at bedtime I find myself scrolling social media forever just to turn my brain off. But I need to find alternate ways to feel refreshed because I hate “resting.” 😂 A couple hours is about the max amount of time I can sit watching TV before I’m itching to take a walk or redecorate. Resting in the typical sense is not restful for me, because I just end up frustrated and more tired than when I started out. This is how I developed the idea of “active rest.” Basically that just means I’m still doing something, but it’s something that allows my brain to turn off and relax so that I feel more rejuvenated by the end. It’s also something that allows me to put my phone on do not disturb, because I’m never at rest as long as there are notifications coming in. Writing used to be that thing for me, but it can’t be anymore. Now it’s a job. That’s just part of the trade-off of pursuing it as a career, I think, and there’s nothing I can do to change that. I don’t love it any less, it just isn’t a creative hobby anymore. It’s subject to boundaries and deadlines (either my own or from outside). Reading can be that thing for me, depending on what I’m reading. Since Wednesday I’d been plowing through an 830 page book so I could return it to a friend on Sunday. I did it, and it was great, but it was not restful. 😂 Next I’ve chosen something shorter, lighter, and by an author I already know I love, so I can just have fun with it. That’s definitely a form of rest for me. So are walking and gardening, but I need some more ideas! Let me know if you have any. And no matter what kind of self-care you prefer, what is your favorite way to find rest in your life? 🌸✨

* Q: What was your OG series from the beginning of your bookstagram days? * I don't often talk about the Throne of Glass series (a huge mistake on my part) mainly because I'm sick and tired of the toxic fandom surrounding this favourite SJM's series of mine and her other stories. Still, when I started my bookstagram years ago (we're speaking about the 2015-2016 era, yes, I'm that old) TOG was the OG fantasy series I was obsessed with. I'm less obsessed with it now, but I still love it dearly and see myself rereading it someday. I reread it only once before the release day of Kingdom of Ash. To this day, I vividly remember how excited I was for the final book and how wonderful it felt to be a part of a bookish community filled with excitement, joy and panic. Coffee & Currently Reading Well if you are anywhere near North Carolina, we have nothing but rain rain rain 🌧️ we got a brief break from it yesterday afternoon which led to a park trip and ice cream, but it is right back this morning. Now onto what I’m reading, I started Betty yesterday and am really loving the writing style though feel like I am keeping my guard up against all characters since so many people warned me it will break my heart. I also decided to pick up Part of Your World on my kindle since I wanted to balance the heavy with something light and I just bought the newest Abby Jimenez book. The basically sums me up! The trials and tribulations of the Hildebrandts family- faith, marriage, moral absolutism and the complicated pursuit of freedom. 🌸 Notes to Self/ Emilie Pine – I feel like I can’t go on about this collection of essays enough. Honest, brave, raw and complex- you’ll never look back. 🌸 Blue Ticket/ @sophmackintosh – I loved this book. I mean there was no doubt in my mind that after the success of ‘The Water Cure’ written by the same author that I was anticipating anything less. Dip into a dystopian world of motherhood where a single ticket determines what kind of woman you will be. Give me a novel on free will, fate and bodily autonomy and I’m there. 🌸 Men Explain Things to Me And Other Essays / Rebecca Solnit. A novel that explores the rouse of the male mind and change that must happen if we are to stake our presence in today’s society where gender inequality still rings true. 🌸 Shuggie Bain/ Douglas Stuart – one of the most heartbreaking novels I’ve ever read and I would gladly reread this again. Poverty on the rise, 1981 Glasgow and a mother-son relationship that WILL break you. A blistering debut. - Ps just finished Brat by Gabriel Smith and it’s wild. Review coming soon! 💙

I read The Force of Such Beauty over a year ago, and while my terrible memory doesn't let me remember the smaller details, I still think about this book very often. Caroline used to be the fastest woman in the world, but after being forced to retire from marathon running due to a traumatic accident, she falls in love with a prince. An actual prince. Life in a remote castle, however, isn't the fairytale she'd dreamed of. The Force of Such Beauty isn't a thriller, nor a romance - it's a fascinating character study inspired by real-life princesses who, at some point, attempted to escape their beautifully wrapped prisons, such as Charlene of Monaco and Diana. Attracted by the limelight and the promise of unconditional adoration from both her husband and his people, Caroline falls into a similar trap, one that is as enchanting as it is terrifying. A moth-light sort of dynamic, really. I love fictional royalty, and this book was the perfect portrait of that rotten glamour regular spectators are usually not privy to. It isn't at all spooky, not in the traditional sense; it's more of a quiet, underlying psychological terror. Beautifully written, with quotes you won't forget about anytime soon and a grandiose ending that will probably make you throw your copy across the room, TFOSB is terrifyingly slow paced, forcing you to pause and wait for the inevitable ending. It's an absolute delight of a book. PS: I must point out, especially for my Portuguese speaking friends: at some point Caroline moves to Lisbon, and there were some Portuguese words written incorrectly; I received my copy a long time ago, so I'm hoping this has since been fixed.
