Today, we're acknowledging the International Day of Charity, dedicated to raising awareness of the impact of volunteering and charitable work on people, the planet, prosperity, peace, and partnership. At IMC, our commitment to taking responsibility for others as well as ourselves is one of our core values and forms an integral part of who we are. We've recorded over 1,297 volunteer hours during the past 12 months, 3,000 IMC Weekend School students prepared for success each week, and we supported a number of charitable initiatives, including Room to Read, UNHCR, and the Fred Hollows Foundation. On International Children's Day, the 1st of October, the Humanitarian Assistance Programme of SOS Children's Villages Sri Lanka, distributed 1000 educational kits to children across various locations in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Presidential Secretariat. September 5th was chosen as #InternationalDayofCharity to commemorate the passing of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 "for work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also constitute a threat to peace." The day may have come and gone - but every day is an opportunity to be charitable in word, deed, and sharing of resources. One of the most important things we can do is to look outside ourselves to lift others. Through the Humanitarian Assistance Programme of SOS Children's Villages Sri Lanka, we distributed School Kits for children in Komari Methodist Mixed School. 250 students received school kits and shoe vouchers. The event was graced by our Ambassador, Mr. Roshan Mahanama, National Director, Mr. Divakar Ratnadurai, Project Director - Mr. Kumar, Village Director Monaragala - Mr.Tishan, and Monaragala CV-HA coworkers, education educator, as well as the principal and teachers, participated in this program as well as the teachers of the school and co-workers of SOS Children's Villages Monaragala. By providing School Kits and Shoe Vouchers, SOS Children's Villages Sri Lanka is ensuring that these 250 students have the necessary tools and resources to succeed in their studies.
