#Buzz #Steps I knew they’d covered #BetterTheDevilYouKnow but never knew it was on one of their albums. I do wonder if it sounds too 90s for an album released in the year 2000, when most acts were trying to look to new sounds and influences. This would’ve felt more at home on albums 1 or 2. It’s a fine cover but not a good opener, unlike #Stomp which immediately draws you in although I swear the single version was more stomp-worthy than this? It’s a decent track and the video certainly helps the cause but it sounds quite dated in comparison to say Deeper Shade Of Blue, which released 6 months earlier. But this is the type of forward-thinking music I was referring to with track 1. You’ve gotta try new things to stay relevant. That applies to #SummerOfLove but again, I’ve never been an admirer of this piece. It sounds fairly lifeless despite the Latin inspired beat. Of all their singles, I think it’s my least favourite alongside Heartbeat. Moving on to favourite singles, #ItsTheWayYouMakeMeFeel is a top 5 for me. The song has a fairytale style quality which is echoed in the video and again showcases the vocals of the band as a whole. It may not be I Will Always Love You part 2 but to me, it’s just as timeless and heartwarming. They outdid themselves with this one. The instrumentation is gorgeous. #YoullBeSorry has a similar europop sound to SOL and DSOB before it but again, it’s so bland and soulless. I expected the albums to get progressively better but this may be the worst of the 3 originals for me. #LearnToLoveAgain is continuing the trend. Look, I LOVE 00s pop but this album is already feeling incredibly dated and dull 6 tracks in. The autotune and vocal effects aren’t cute.
