The weekly photo dump…. Literally feel like I just blink and the week is gone?! Anyone else feel like this?? So looking forward to letting my hair down tomorrow at Streetrave which is a dance festival held in Ayr. I’m planning on dancing my socks off 🥳 1️⃣ First up I want to start off this post by saying a big THANK YOU to all my lovely clients. A few of them came to my village here in Dollar and we had a lovely walk and lunch. I truly love helping women feel stronger in body and mind. 3 new clients onboarded this week also - thanks for trusting me to help you ladies ❤️ 2️⃣ My lovely face to face clients. I run a small group “ladies who lift” session every week. Teaching ladies to lift safely and effectively. However this week we chucked some balls about and they thoroughly enjoyed it 🤣. 3️⃣ More lunches like this in the sun please! It’s so rare here in Scotland to get sun so when we do it’s get outside as quickly as possible! 4️⃣ Spin babes. The gorgeous @louise_thacker_spinning keeping my quads solid. I keep cardio to a minimum and do 1-2 sessions per week. Strength training is my priority in midlife. 5️⃣ The outtake. If you’ve seen my reel this week you will recognise this. My son genuinely had no idea why his mum was dancing around the kitchen. I am that embarrassing mum 🤣. 6️⃣ This is (nearly) 45. Have to say I’m feeling the MOST body confident I have ever been. Helps when the gym lighting hits right. @limitlessfitness_stirling 7️⃣ I’m the STRONGEST I’ve ever been. 80KG squats feeling good after some time away from them. I’m not slowing down - only getting stronger…I’m just training for my old lady body. Focus on strong and the rest just falls into place. Instead of wanting to have something leftover at the end of the day, how about you start the day with you on the agenda FIRST! No leftovers. No scraps. We always hear “you can’t pour from an empty cup” but do it anyway. And then feel exhausted and resentful. Here is what you can do make sure you never feel like you are a leftover thought: ✅ set your alarm 10 min before everyone wakes up, pour up that tea or coffee and just sip and sit with yourself. Say out loud three things you are thankful for. And if the kids wake up during your me time, send them right back to bed, they can wait for 10 min🤣 In my 1:1 coaching for perimenopausal women, we work on not only relieving the physical discomforts of their menopausal symptoms but also creating strategies to carve out more “me” time during the day. With all of the responsibilities that we have- the kids, the partners, the pets, the parents- it is hard to feel like we actually have time. But by starting your day with YOU first before tending to everyone else, you make a habit of pouring into your cup. 🌟Why Do You (We) Color Our Hair?🌟 For me, when I started coloring my hair in my 20's, it was more or less for FUN. My high school best friend at the time had graduated from beauty school and taught me how to highlight my hair. Highlights were probably the easiest to maintain simply because it didn't require full coverage. However, color was not my only change. I've had MANY hairstyles from Halle Berry short to long. Over time, I've increased highlights as well as colored my hair from black to dark brown and even attempted some purple strands here and there. It probably wasn't until my early 40's that I really started to question if I wanted to spend the time, energy and money on continuing to color my hair. It always felt like as soon as I colored it, not even a week later, it was time to color it again. There are several reasons why we color our hair from self-expression to what's trending. It could even be a way to boost your self-confidence! It's like an accessory and can change with the seasons. However, this is the question I challenge those who do continue to color their hair: Are you coloring your hair ONLY to cover up grey? If YES, sit with your response and think why. Have you truly thought about WHY? If covering up your grey/natural hair color is the ONLY reason you color your hair, perhaps rethinking the purpose of doing so may be in question. 📸 Here’s to all the fabulous reasons we choose to color our hair! I knew it had been a long time since we’d been to the The K so I dug back through my camera roll to find the photographic evidence. May 18, 2018. We were two totally different people! (Swipe for the evidence.) And just when I thought my list of “sober firsts” had already been eliminated after 4+ years…I crossed ballpark off the list last night. It’s a wildly different experience, I can tell ya that. (That giant Coors Light on the ground next to me in 2018 is definitely mine. If you sometimes feel like an imposter in your own life, you’re not on your own. It’s incredibly common and powerful though it might be, you CAN fight back. You have to start thinking like a superhero! If you want to discover what your unique superpowers are, you can start by thinking about the things that you do well, instead of focusing on your mistakes and failures. If you’re not feeling very confident, you may think that you don’t have any particular strengths or skills. So start by thinking about the things that you are naturally good at. If you struggling with this, perhaps you could ask a friend. Often our friends are better at spotting our unique skills than we are (and they are usually a bit kinder!) Knowing what your skills and strengths are, builds the foundations of your confidence. And recognising what makes you unique, helps you to see yourself in a more positive light, and stops that nagging imposter voice for good. So, what are your superpowers? Have you thought about your career values? 🧐 When considering a new job or career, your career values count as one of the most important factors that will guide your choices. Understanding and knowing what you value in a job and workplace, especially in midlife, can help you evaluate career options to consider and assist you with choosing a job or path that’s the best fit for your values. What are career values? 💡 They represent the beliefs you have about what is important in your work and what is meaningful to you 💡 They help steer and drive your career 💡 These values will help you decide on a potential company or position Once you understand WHAT you value, you’ll have a better answer to what motivates you to do the best work you can, feel balanced and in alignment. 🫶🏼 Fulfillment in our career occurs when our values are met in our work - they are intrinsically desirable to us and dissatisfaction occurs when our values are not being honoured, recognized or met. 🥹 To dig into this for yourself start with asking ‘why do I work’ - answer with ‘I work because...’ and then write down ‘I want the following things from my work/career’. Make a list of 5 or 10 things that resonate. I have a great worksheet on this so if you are interested DM me and I will send to you for free! Oh Hey! T’is me … Sharon, Shazza, Shar, Sharoon, Shazzaroo, Sharona. For the longest time I didn’t like my name, my sister had a much cooler name ‘Natasha’ and she was the only one in a school of 1500 kids with that name … I meanwhile, had 4 Sharons in my maths class! It was just so 1969 to call your kid Sharon! When I decided that I was going to focus my life skills, experience, training, and passion to helping mid-life women, I did the thing I’d done with previous businesses - I tried to come up with a name for my new venture. Messy Middle seemed so apt as it’s where I was … smack bang in the Messy Middle as were the women I was working with. But in moments of quiet, or when I was journalling I kept sensing the message ‘Stop hiding’ I knew instinctively that this was about using my own name. But to do so felt so raw, so exposing … and I didn’t have a really cool name - like Natasha! I really had to check myself - How could I expect others to open up with me in coaching if I couldn’t do something as simple as work under my own name. This is where I had to apply some of my own coaching tools to overcome this seemingly simple block. After months of nervous system work that included things like buying my domain name, I’m now good and proud to say I’m … Sharon Wilkes-Burt - Midlife Mindset Coach And …. TA-DAAAAA … I have a website!! Which feels kinda legit right?! @kirsten.onecirclestudio built me the most beautiful website for the hair academy, that it broke my heart asking her to dismantle it, but … oh my! She has come up trumps again… and I absolutely love it! ✨😍✨ You will find on there not just the coaching packages but the business mentoring that I brought across from the academy. The saying don’t throw the baby out with the bath water seemed to apply with the biz mentoring. This was a very popular offering at Gloss and as it’s still so requested it made sense to add it to the website services. I hope you love it as much as I do. It's now in my bio! 𝘼𝙄 𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙨 𝙢𝙚! 😎 Earlier today, while attending a meeting, someone mentioned legacy and authenticity. The discussion then went to digital footprints and how we are seen online compared to who we really are. They suggested doing a simple test, asking ChatGPT or another AI tool the simple question, "Who is [inseart your first and last name] + [information that sets you apart to let AI know who you are.] In my case, the question was, "Who is Antonia Varbanova, a transformational life coach in Singapore?" This is the result. I am happy to report that AI gets me (except it failed to mention my incredible sense of humor.) 🤣 Is who you are the way others see you? Do you live a life aligned with who you are? If the answer is not clear, what can you do about it? I would love to hear about your findings. 😋

Fellow midlife baddies, here’s the secret: Lift heavy 💩 If you can do jumping jacks, air squats or any extra activity during your rest periods, it is time to increase that weight. Rest periods are scheduled for a reason. And if you find you don’t need much time to rest between your workout sets, you may not be pushing to your potential. Now granted, I’m not telling you if your new to training you need to lift 100lbs, but if you have been training and feel you don’t need to rest, it’s a good indicator you are not pushing hard enough. Resting appropriately between sets will help you feel physically ready to push with effort on your next set. I've run HUNDREDS of DUTCH tests in my time but I don't run them anymore as they give more questions than answers. If something on the test suggests you may have inflammation - now you need to do a stool test (inflammation stems from the gut). The DUTCH doesn’t give root cause answers just expensive suggestions. And why run a DUTCH for nutrient markers when you can run the HTMA and get far more root cause answers and data on nutrients and imbalances? And the adrenal panel is a questionable marker. I've seldom found the adrenal/cortisol panel to be very helpful. EVERY client we work with we work HARD with them on nervous system health, slowing down, etc. No supplement will help if your adrenals are whacked and you’re not doing this important nervous system work. And it may be other things putting pressure on your adrenals - such as infections in your gut. Perimenopause just isn’t the time to go out running expensive DUTCH tests IMO (you can't hang your hat on ANY hormone results in peri). If you really want to test your hormones just run some cheaper/free bloods and start to build up a trend, but ALWAYS look at your symptoms to guide you as you are not a number on a piece of paper. ‘Stop waiting for Friday, for summer, for someone to fall in love with you, for life. Happiness is achieved when you stop waiting for it and make the most of the moment you are in now’. 😃 How do you live in the moment in your awesome life? 😃 How do you remind yourself to come back to the present moment? 😃 Are there strategies that you use to remind yourself to stay present? For me I am trying hard to make my way back to the spontaneity I had before kids, partner, dog, cat, mortgage, adulting stuff....so today I did it and booked a trip to Mexico next month on an offer that was 100% impossible to refuse. Sure its not great timing and I have a zillion things to put in motion to make this happen but man did it make me happy! I am standing present in the moment - this is time we will never get back (remember the 900 months post from last week?). So go for it! 🚀 I’m with Lao Tzu - “If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present.” 🌸 For me each day is still an opportunity to learn and grow and remind myself that tomorrow will be coming soon enough so I don’t need to be chasing those badass phantoms into the ‘morrow. You know that elusive, Instagram-worthy life where you "have it all?" Perfect kids, doting spouse, killer career, and oh, let’s not forget that supermodel body? Society keeps telling us that’s the dream, right? And it seems like everyone on social media is living it... except you. But let’s rip off the Band-Aid here: "Having it all" is the most overrated myth circulating in the echo chamber of modern womanhood. Why? Because it’s not designed for real humans, much less real women. It’s the culmination of expectations, many of which stem from a patriarchal society that's been defining our roles since who knows when. It’s the trophy handed out by an invisible committee that says, "Congrats, you’re now a complete woman. Everyone else, keep trying." Well, let's expose this cultural charade. First off, that woman you see online who seems to have it all? Her feed is curated—like mine and everyone else's. She might be juggling job pressures with sleepless nights, and trust me, she's got her own struggles that the filter just can't fix. What no one tells you is that the quest for “having it all” actually steals so much from us. It robs us of the time we could be spending genuinely connecting with our families or rediscovering passions we've shelved. It fosters a toxic environment of constant comparison and unattainable perfectionism. And honestly—when was the last time you heard a man stress about "having it all?" Instead of aspiring to an impossible standard, why not aim for what truly fulfills you? For some, it might be a career achievement; for others, it could be a rich family life or personal wellness. We don't all want or need the same things, and that’s perfectly okay. There's nothing wrong with wanting success, but the “all” in “having it all” needs a serious rebrand. How about we start celebrating women for who they are and what they choose to prioritize, rather than shaming them for not living up to an impractical ideal? Being unfulfilled in your life can be a good thing! Yep, you read that right. While being unfulfilled doesn't feel great, it can actually be a positive wake-up call if you use it as motivation to make changes. We often get caught up measuring our lives by societal milestones - getting engaged, married, having kids, landing the big job or promotion. But do you ever pause to evaluate your actual fulfilment levels? I'll be honest, I didn't. I was too busy, too stressed, too consumed by the daily grind to even consider whether I felt truly fulfilled. Until one day, it hit me - I was deeply unfulfilled. That realization was tough, but also eye-opening. Being unfulfilled forced me to stop and take stock of my life in a way I'd never done before. So I challenge you to do the same. Conduct a fulfilment audit on your life, and make it an annual practice. Grab a journal and make a list of key life areas like: 💻Work/Career 🎲Fun/Leisure 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Family & Friends 😍Significant Other 🩺Health 💸Money 🏠Home Environment Then, score each area on a scale of 1-10 based on your current fulfilment levels. If you adore your job, maybe it's a 9 or 10. But if you're frustrated and want out, perhaps it's a 2 or 3. Once you have your scores, identify the area with the lowest score. The first step is the hardest. It’s a doozy as one of my previous clients said. “But it’s soooooooo worth it!” I 💯 percent agree. I GET IT! I’ve been where you are. Feeling stuck, emotionally depleted and having no clue what next step to take. Asking, is this how my life looks from here on out? Is this it? I KNEW in my bones, something had to change. From my heart space to yours today. Affirmations, when done well - can fine tune (perhaps even reprogramme) some of the automatic thoughts we have racing around in our brains every single second. Find a quiet space, just for a couple of minutes and slowly, deliberately and intentionally repeat these affirmations. If you don't connect with one, leave it there. Notice the resistance, and perhaps re word it in a way that you FEEL that connection to it. Affirmations, are all in the feelings. We have to believe them, feel them and become them. In coaching, if a client wishes to explore this kind of practice, we spend a lot of time ensuring that the affirmations are sending the signals the client desires and connects to them in ways that make them powerful, meaningful and accepted.
