Book review - Momentous Events in the Life of a Cactus by Dusti Bowling Entertaining young adult read. The main character, Aven, is entering high school and facing some unique challenges. This story covers the topics of special families, bullying, friendships, and a tiny bit of romance. Well written and easy to read. When I picked this up I didn’t realize it was a sequel to a previous book. Still thought the story stood well on its own. Definitely will add to my classroom library. Rating: 4 out of 5 stars #bookreview #bookrecommendations #teacherbookreview #youngadultbooks #youngadultfiction #highschool #bullying #friendship #dustibowling

📚Share with us what you've been reading in the comments below.📚 This weekends read was: The safest lies by Megan Miranda. Megan Miranda writes both young adult and adult fast paced mysteries. The safest lies is a YA title, but I recommend it for anyone who loves a fast intriguing read. Kelsey lives alone with her agoraphobic mother. She knows she’s supposed to keep a low profile for their own protection, but that plan is shattered when she drives off a cliff and is rescued by volunteer firefighter and classmate Ryan Baker. A few days later, she arrives home to face her greatest fear: her mother is missing. She and her mother have drilled for all contingencies—except this one. Luckily, Ryan is as skilled at emergency rescues as Kelsey is at escape and evasion. To have a chance at a future, Kelsey will have to face all her darkest fears. Because someone is coming for her. Find this book in our catalogue and also available on Borrowbox as an eAudiobook. #WeekendReads #BookRecommendation #MysteryBooks #YoungAdultFiction #BookLovers #ReadingList #Bookworm #ThrillerReads #LibraryFinds #Borrowbox #MeganMiranda #TheSafestLies

Of the eight books on the list, this week’s #bookoftheweek is the #percyjacksonandtheolympians series. Reading should be a fun activity, and this series Which was gifted to me by the lovely B, reminds me of it. As silly as it sounds people often take reading seriously and associate it@with productivity. People mostly read self help books or the highly acclaimed literature pieces. Reading is supposed to be a hobby, it should be fun and also challenging. #percyjackson achieves a great blend of this safe #youngadultfiction teen adventure story with a blend of this perfect dark depth and realism, Which would challenge the young readers and the adults. Usually I am against adults reading the typical Ya Fiction, but what makes harry potter, hunger games, and Percy jackson different. Do you think there is a similar secret formula to them?

📚BOOK MAIL! 📚 I’ll Be Waiting by @marikoturk published by @allenandunwin Thanks Buzz Words and @allenandunwin for sending me a copy to review. BLURB: Natalie and Imogen are inseparable, and wildly different – Imogen is infuriatingly humble and incredibly intelligent, while Natalie is brave, jumping into danger and new adventures. Still, one thing ties them together: their love of the supernatural. Every summer, they vacation with their parents at the famously haunted Harlow Hotel. Imogen is a true believer, while Natalie sees ghost stories as nothing but pure fun. Then, Imogen suddenly passes away from an undiagnosed heart condition that no one saw coming, and Natalie is left to take on the summer before senior year alone. Without Imogen, Natalie throws herself into her senior project. Her passion is still horror, so she plans to spend her summer back at the Harlow Hotel recording fun fake footage that will get her on the teen ghost hunting show of her dreams. And her plans would be a lot less complicated if Leander, her irritatingly attractive arch rival from school, wasn’t working on his senior project at the very same hotel. The longer Natalie stays at the Harlow Hotel, the more she realizes that Leander might be helpful for her project. After all, she could use an extra hand to help record her fake footage. But, when strange things start happening at the Harlow, Natalie wonders, could there really be something to these ghosts after all? #dreambigreadoften #bookreviews #bookreviewsofinstagram # #teachersfollowteachers #bookpromotion #newbooks #authorssupportingauthors #teachersofinstagram #yabooks #loveya #youngadultfiction #newbookrelease #teacherlibrarian #bibliophiles #bookstagrammers #yournextread

☕️ book review — icebreaker by Hannah Grace 👍🏻 why you should read it — very romantic young adult to swoon away with — 🌶️🌶️🌶️ scenes (a bit too many in the beginning maybe? I was like please let me get into this story first, but eventually it got better) — strong female lead that knows what she wants and works hard to get it 👎🏻 why you shouldn’t read it — I’m sorry but Nathan is the least realistic boyfriend I have ever come across, like who even says those kinds of things? I like rose-tinted glasses but this was just too much of a good thing. — the characters are weirdly self-aware and reflective and it feels just, again, so unrealistic (like here in real life we struggle and make mistakes and try to learn from the mess we make but half of times we still get it wrong and we’re confused more often than we know what’s going on — they on the other hand magically know the root cause of any issue and they communicate about it clearly and openly as it’s the easiest thing in the world) Overall it’s a fun and sweet romance that also tries to normalise speaking up about mental health and disordered eating - which I think is very much needed. It’s not without its flaws, but it’s a good choice for a light and easy read ☺️ #icebreaker #youngadultbooks #youngadultfiction #yabooks #bookreview #bookrecommendations #booksbooksbooks #bookstagram #bookish

the raven king, the final installment in maggie stiefvater's raven cycle, delivers a powerful conclusion to the series. picking up where the last book left off, the characters grapple with the weight of their quest to find glendower, the dead welsh king. this book shines a particular light on gansey (also the loml), the enigmatic leader of the group. as the narrative delves into his motivations and desires, we gain a deeper understanding of his complex personality. the question of what comes after glendower hangs heavy, forcing not only gansey but also the others to confront their own futures. stiefvater's signature prose is as captivating as ever. lush descriptions and poetic turns of phrase paint a vivid picture of the world, both magical and mundane. the banter between the characters remains sharp and witty, making things lighter when they feel intense. noah (the best character in the series) stands out as a particularly heartbreaking figure. torn between loyalty and his own desires, he struggles with a tragic fate that leaves a lump in your throat. at its core, "the raven king" is a story about the power of belief and the strength of the human spirit. as the characters confront their fears and confront their destiny, they discover that true magic lies not in spells and incantations, but in the courage to embrace who they are and stand up for what they believe in. 5/5 stars!!

🌸"If people were rain, I was drizzle and she was a hurricane."🌸💕 Book name: Looking for Alaska Author: John Green My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Book number 21/60 My thoughts:"Entering the world of 'Looking for Alaska' felt like embarking on a quest for meaning and adventure, much like Miles "Pudge" Halter himself. Tired of his mundane existence and yearning for something more, Miles sets off for Culver Creek Boarding School in search of 'the Great Perhaps,' echoing the sentiments of Francois Rabelais. Little did he know that his life was about to take an exhilarating turn upon encountering the enigmatic Alaska Young. With her irresistible blend of charm, intelligence, and complexity, Alaska becomes a magnetic force in Miles' world, pulling him into a whirlwind of experiences that defy convention and redefine the notion of what it means to truly live. Their friendship blossoms amidst laughter, mischief, and philosophical conversations under the starry night sky. But just as Miles begins to unravel the layers of Alaska's enigma, tragedy strikes, leaving behind a void that echoes with unanswered questions. Alaska's sudden disappearance sparks a desperate search by Miles and his friends, each step unraveling new clues and revelations. As they navigate through the labyrinth of emotions and memories, they grapple with the harsh realities of loss and the fleeting nature of life itself. 'Looking for Alaska' isn't just a coming-of-age tale; it's a poignant exploration of love, friendship, and the intricate complexities of the human experience. John Green's masterful storytelling delves deep into the hearts and minds of his characters, inviting readers to ponder life's big questions and confront the harsh realities that shape our destinies. From the lighthearted moments of teenage mischief to the soul-stirring depths of grief and introspection, 'Looking for Alaska' is a testament to the transformative power of literature and the enduring allure of John Green's prose. It's a journey that will linger in the hearts of readers long after the final page is turned.

The Love That Binds Us by Pheonix Blackwood Review: 4/5 ⭐️ I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I read this book after reading a another one in the series (The Family That Finds Us) and really enjoying it. Needless to say, it didn't disappoint! I finished it within a day! I really liked the characters and there is a lot of great LGBTQ+ representation. I also liked reading from the perspective of Alex after reading about her in The Family That Finds Us. There were some difficult topics which I felt the author handled well especially for a YA audience. I never felt bored reading this and the storyline was interesting. It was an easy book to get into and never felt like it dragged on. There was nothing particularly special or interesting about the writing style which is partially why the book is 4 stars instead of 5. Overall though it's a great book with an interesting and diverse set of characters and I'm very much intending to read the third book in the series because I am engaged in the world and characters the author has created. Would definitely recommend to anyone who want to read a diverse YA book which covers difficult topics but still feels uplifting! #bookstagram #books #book #bookrecommendations #bookreview #lgbtbooks #lgbtqbooks #reading #read youngadultbooks #youngadultfiction #youngadult #yabooks

The Dragons Promise by Elizabeth Lim . A journey to the kingdom of dragons, a star-crossed love, and a cursed pearl with the power to mend the world or break it... Princess Shiori made a deathbed promise to return the dragon's pearl to its rightful owner, but keeping that promise is more dangerous than she ever imagined. She must journey to the kingdom of dragons, navigate political intrigue among humans and dragons alike, fend off thieves who covet the pearl for themselves and will go to any lengths to get it, all while cultivating the appearance of a perfect princess to dissuade those who would see her burned at the stake for the magic that runs in her blood. The pearl itself is no ordinary cargo; it thrums with malevolent power, jumping to Shiori's aid one minute, and betraying her the next—threatening to shatter her family and sever the thread of fate that binds her to her true love, Takkan. It will take every ounce of strength Shiori can muster to defend the life and the love she's fought so hard to win. . Check the review on goodreads.com . Morning lovelies, happy Sunday 😊 I'm sharing my review for #IfMyWordsHadWings by @danielle_jawando. Published on the 9th of May. I absolutely recommend you read it even if you don't normally read Ya. It's one of the most powerful books I've read in a while. Thank you to @netgalley and @simonschusteruk for my e-arc **AD PR PRODUCT ** This was my first read by Danielle Jawando, and it definitely won't be the last because, wow, is this book impactful! When 15 year old Tyrell gets caught up with the wrong crowd and finds himself involved in an armed robbery, he is convicted and sent to a juvenile prison. He soon learns that in order to survive, he can only trust himself. He can never relax and spends his time in constant flight or fight mode. Ty meets Dadir, who's serving a life sentence for joint enterprise in a murder he didn't commit. He merely nodded at an associate who then went on to kill. Tyrell and Dadir strike up a friendship and have each others backs. Despite the injustice and discrimination they both face, they help each other get through prison life the best way they can. Tyrell is never safe, though, not just from other prisoners but himself, too. Now his release date is coming up, and he's determined to turn his life around. Inspired by Malik, a visiting poet, Tyrell finds the magic of words and finds solace in writing. Will he be able to resist his old lifestyle and friends, and can he really be successful? Hard-hitting and powerful reading If My Words Had Wings reminded me why I love young adult fiction so much. To represent young people who are never talked about, who find themselves at the hands of the justice system that will stereotype, and discriminate against young black people, call them gang members, scrutinise their music choices and even wrongly convict them is something that should be applauded. Danielle gives these young people a voice. I haven't the lived experience of Tyrell and Dadir, but they were so relatable. I felt like I was right there with them. I wanted to reach into the pages and tell them it was all going to be okay. **Cont in comments**

The Reappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson follows 18 year old Bel. She and her family are participating in the filming of a documentary about Bel’s mom, Rachel Price. Rachel went missing when Bel was 2 years old. While they are trying to unravel the mysterious disappearance, Rachel shows back up. Bloodied and confused, she doesn’t have answers for Bel on how she has missed 16 years of her life. Bel suspects her mom of lying when her story about escaping her capturers is inconsistent. As Bel delves deeper into what happened to her mom, her life starts to fall apart. What she has always known to be true may not be what it seems. For the first half of this book, I felt it was being predictable and lame. But I assumed I knew where things were going. I was actually wrong. It picks up in the last part and gets pretty interesting. I feel like Bel was mostly unlikeable and that it was a choice the author made to show how her missing mother shaped her. That didn’t make Bel interesting though. I liked Ash. He was an eccentric addition to things. I was left with questions over how this story was wrapped up. Overall, it ended up being a fun read. I listened to the audiobook. The narrator is decent. 3/5 stars. #read #reading #books #bookstagram #bookreview #audiobook #youngadult #yabooks #youngadultfiction #youngadultbooks #youngadultthriller #mystery #mysterythriller #thrillerbooks #thriller #contemporarybooks #contemporary #contemporaryreads #crime #suspense #suspensethriller #murdermystery

I read a bunch of her books when I was eight years old, a long time ago. Later in life, my mother bought every book she could find by this author, including used copies. So this is a cultural artifact of sorts from my mother’s house. The main character feels like a plain Jane, who doesn’t get the kind of attention from boys that her younger sister does. She’s more of a pal and feels like she missing something that other girls have. She feels different. There’s a sort of misunderstanding between her and her childhood pal (named Ken) next door. She feels jealous and snubbed. She goes through changes including making friends with a boy from England and being chosen to be editor of the school yearbook. So, various feelings and small dramas, and then a hopeful ending. Includes some interesting commentary on youth culture. Also, remember when people used typewriters and had to go to the library to look stuff up? #LifeBeforePersonalComputersAndSmartPhones #football #mechanics #MechanicalEngineering #SettingTheTable #AfterSchoolJobs #FamilyDinners #DadsWithTempers Also, some literary references that had me adding titles to my TBR list, so that’s fun.

I Wanna Be Where You Are, is a quick, young adult rom-com.  This was a cute story about Chole, a ballerina who wants to tryout for a Conservatory.  Her mother on the other hand, is against it.  In Chole’s favor, her mother is going on vacation the same week as the auditions.  Chole conspires with her best friend to sneak to the audition and back without her mother ever knowing.  Her neighbor Eli goes along for the ride, against her better judgment.  What starts out as a simple trip to D.C. turns out to have more issues than one.  On the trip, Chole is reminded of her crush on Eli and is forced to take a stand to pursue her dreams.    This was my first read by Kristina Forest and I will be checking out the rest of her catalog.  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Written by: @kristinaforest_ Narrated by: @jeanetteillidge . . . #booktrend #bookcommunity #currentreads #bookstagram #bookworm #blackauthors #bibliophile #diversereads #bookblogger #monthlygoals #booklover #bookclub #booktok #currentlyreading #booktok #blackbookstagram #2024readingchallenge #april2024 #bookworm #bookgoals #KristinaForest #iwannabewhereyouare #youngadultfiction

The Reappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson Bel is part of one of the most popular unsolved mysteries... The disappearance of her mom, Rachel Price. For 16 years (since she was 2), it had just been her and her dad. They started filming a documentary about it. But, when Rachel reappears, things only get more complicated and twisted. Leave it to Holly Jackson to keep me on the edge of my seat and not see what was coming until it was close. After each piece of information was revealed, it mostly still caught me by surprise and became darker in theme. This is a young adult/teen thriller. There are no spicy bits. #hollyjackson #thereappearanceofrachelprice #agggtm #thriller #crime #keptmeguessing #keepmeguessing #solvingcrimes #booksbooksbooks #goodread #goodgirlsguidetomurder #twistsandturns #unexpected #lovedit #read #yafiction #youngadultfiction #thriller #suspense #bookstagrambook #booktokbooks #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #readersofinsta #readersofinstagram #readersofinstagram📚📚❤️ #readersofinsta #ebook #ebooks #ebookstagram #ebookstagrammer #ebookstoread

Slit Throat Saga By Teshelle Combs I love the amount of action packed in this story. The adventures are ingenious and incredibly captivating. I love the unique characters and the mix of personalities. The writing style also pulls you into the world with great detail and unique words. I am excited for the release of this book and can't wait to read the third.

Well I’ve completed another entry of the holy scripture of bookstagram, A Court of Mist and Fury. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book is a huge step up from the first book. It does a nice job of elevating the first by recontextualizing most of the story from the first book, giving it an altogether greater sense of depth and scope in world building but also in emotional stakes. Feyre continues to teeter between amazing and annoying, but for the most part remains a stand out character. Rhys is fine, a huge step up from Tamlin, but I still feel like we’re just exploring different male romantic archetypes. Rhys’s court are all great, no notes. I love a sequel that serves as a dark chapter in the story and this one does it great. Last hundred pages or so are very very well done.

Out of Blue Comes Green follows our main character Kay who has recently come out as trans. He performs with his band Blue at a school talent show, with the hopes of showing who he really is. The book follows the rest of the school year as Kay battles with bullies, a parent who is unsupportive, and trying to find their own way with girls and life. I really liked this one. It’s a little angsty, a little angry, and packs in a lot of heart. The friendships are strong in this one and the backdrop of school adds to the punches that our main character deals with. I was filled with rage more than one time - freaking bullies!! - for Kay (who later chooses the name Nate, which is perfect!), and I was also heartwarmed by his dad’s reaction. A couple of quotes I liked: “To love someone who doesn’t understand who you truly are is heartbreaking.” “It’s all fine; it all ties together. My English teacher this year said that fiction makes sense out of life. In fiction things have to fall in line, events cause other events.” “That’s what I want. Music and happiness.“ “I text him a heart emoji. Because boys can love their brothers.“ “When my lips meet hers, it’s simply the most wonderful thing. Wonderful, wonderful.“ Happy reading! 💙 #books #reading #booklife #fictionbooks #YAbooks #readingisfun #bookstagram #bookvibes #readingchallenge #booklover #allbooked #YAlit #youngadultbooks #YAfiction #youngadultfiction #transstoriesmatter #transbooks #youngadultlit

⠀ ⠀ Celkom som dosť zmätená zo záveru, pretože som čakala vysvetlenie a poriadne rozuzlenie, a to som nedostala. A zároveň chýbali jednotlivým príbehom aj patričné odlišnosti, aby to bolo zaujímavé...⠀ ⠀ Za knihu ďakujem @grada_sk #pannaorelnebolaska #youngadult #youngadultbooks #milujemeknihy #dnesctu #dnescitam #knihstagram #knihyknihyknihy #bookblogger #bookworm #bookweek #bookstagram #knihozrut #youngadultfiction

This was a reread for me and I loved it even more the second time around. Noah switched schools and is starting over. He wants to join a club to prove himself, and he ends up accidentally attempting to join a borrow a boyfriend club. Asher is the president and Noah has to impress him to get in. Hijinks ensue. *spoilers* This book has everything I adore in YA. Lovable, fun, chaotic, messy, funny teens. Not only that - but there are so many moments of genuine love, support, and vulnerability that it felt SO good to read. Asher’s lonely home life, Noah’s never feeling like he’s enough of a boy…tore at my heartstrings! I also adored the whole group of kids. They were supportive and sweet, funny and charming. Listening to audio was a blast. The narrator is truly amazing and had such a great vibe with the characters. The scene that still makes me laugh the hardest is when the boys perform for Noah’s parents, and Asher and Noah kiss. The parents had a bet on Noah and Asher being into each other. It was HILARIOUS to listen to. Gahhhh I love this book so so much. If you haven’t read this one - you definitely should. It’s chaotic and fun and laugh out loud funny. It’s also poignant and meaningful. Like I said… everything I adore in YA. 🥰🥹 - I own the UK cover (it’s literally amazing) and have a signed copy coming (shipped yesterday!!) and I cannot wait to put it on my shelf. I’ll Give You the Sun 🫶🏻 🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 Okay, this was a slow burner for me. The first 80ish pages made me want to throw the book at the wall, but once I’d broke through… wow. All of a sudden I couldn’t put it down, there was so much angst and heartbreak but also a real journey of self discovery and self acceptance which I feel would resonate with A LOT of people. I am a lover of YA fiction and this really fits into that category. The first few chapters feel clunky and confused, hard to grasp what’s happening but once it settles the writing is easy and beautiful. Dual POV will always have my heart and both of these characters captured me, they are written in such a way you understand them, their relationship and their separate struggles so well and really, really root for them🥹 My main criticism is how LONG some of the chapters are. Overall, a gorgeous read which I ended up finishing in one sitting 🌸

This is a YA series about a girl, Avery, who is left a fortune from the infamous Tobias Hawthorne when he dies and no one knows why. Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan 📚 | Rating: ⭐⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 (~3.75) Daughter of the Moon Goddess was a delightful surprise. The first 30% was closer to a 2-3 star for me, but by the end, it climbed up closer to a 4. There are some tropes I just don’t like: main characters that seem to be good at everything without merit (a parent being good at something is a lazy reason for their child being good at the same thing without any practice), chance encounters where a royal sees the poor common girl and suddenly fall in love (no build-up, no reason just “wow, I’ve never had a peasant sass me like this before.”) Unfortunately, these tropes are everywhere in YA romance and I thought I had fallen for the trap of a pretty cover that was all style, no substance, once again. However, as the book progressed into Part 2, our girl Xingyin starts to develop into a main character that feels like she deserves her accomplishments instead of having them just fall into her lap. Hard work and heartbreak can do that to a person. And rather than having one prince randomly fall in love with her, she starts to collect princes like one collects hobbies. Suddenly, I found myself having quite a bit of fun with this book, even though it still screams YA tropes. You go, Xingyin! Go and live your best powerful boss babe reverse harem era! 💖

Last summer, they searched for Audrey Covington. This summer, they'll search for the truth. Paige Redmond has always felt lucky to spend her summers in Clearwater Ridge, with lazy days sunning at the waterfalls and nights partying at the sprawling houses of the rich families who vacation there. The Covingtons are one of these families, and beautiful, brilliant Audrey Covington is Paige's best friend. And last year, when Audrey's crush-worthy brother Dylan finally started noticing Paige, she was sure it would be the best summer ever. Except Audrey didn't seem quite like herself. Then one night, she didn't come home. Though Audrey wasn't the first girl to disappear in Clearwater Ridge, she left behind more lies than clues. Now, one summer later, her case has gone cold, and nobody, least of all Paige, can make sense of what happened. When Paige stumbles across a secret hidden in Audrey's room, however, it changes everything she thought she knew about last summer. She and Dylan set out on their own investigation, discovering things even the police don't know about the people of Clearwater Ridge. True True by Don P. Hooper Gil has been accepted to Augustin for his senior year. He’s the first student to be accepted in his senior year to Augustin, but on his first day he’s already facing racism for being Jamaican and one of the few Black students at the school. By the end of his first week he’s suspended after he’s the target of a racist attack. Using The Art Of War Gil starts to fight back. But in the mean time he’s trying to balance friendships at home and managing with his dad being back in Jamaica and his Granmas dementia. This book is so incredible and powerful. Facing managing racism in institutes is always an incredibly difficult thing and something I’ll never really know as a white person. But these stories always aspire to look at more ways I can help to attempt to dismantle systems if and where I can. And there will always be more that I can do. Once again this book shows the power of a YA novel. Young people haven’t had enough options for speculative fiction centered on Black characters, so this intriguing story and its seamless bending and blending of reality are a welcomed addition, and I love it!⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Harriet Adu’s life spins as she tries to find peace in the aftermath of her sixteen-year-old brother’s death. ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ The tragedy happened to occur the day they had a huge blowup that ended with her wishing he was dead. She certainly didn’t mean it, and now she’ll do anything to turn back the hands of time. ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ With multiple references to Nigeria and life in New York City—both head nods to the author’s background—this book offers a strong sense of place and culture within Harriett’s family and community. ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Younger middle schoolers can read and enjoy, but I especially recommend this book for ages 13-16.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ 📖 You’re Breaking My Heart by Olugbemisola Rhuday-Perkovich @olugbemisolarhudayperkovich

I did my version of Pippa Fitz-Amobi from the book 'A good girl's guide to murder' by Holly Jackson @hojay92 .I couldn't stop reading until the last page, this book kept me hooked! Thanks to my dear friend @srinidhidraws for recommending just a great read 🤩 Pippa is a 17- year old A grade student, who loves homework and she has taken on project to solve the unsolved murder mystery of a teenage girl in Little Kilton named Andie Bell. She won't stop until she has found out the truth, not even when someone is following her every move and wants to keep things hidden🧐 #middlegrade #middlegradebooks #middlegradefiction #characterdevelopment #characterillustration #womenillustrators #mgbooks #youngadultbooks #youngadultfiction #picturebookart #characterillustrations #agoodgirlsguidetomurder #pippafitzamobi

End of the World House by Adrienne Celt . Bertie and Kate have been best friends since high school. Bertie is a semi-failed cartoonist, working for a prominent Silicon Valley tech firm. Her job depresses her, but not as much as the fact that Kate has recently decided to move from San Francisco to Los Angeles. When Bertie’s attempts to make Kate stay fail, she suggests the next-best thing: a trip to Paris that will hopefully distract the duo from their upcoming separation. The vacation is also a sort of last hurrah, coming during a ceasefire in a series of escalating world conflicts. One night in Paris, they meet a strange man in a bar who offers them a private tour of the Louvre. The women find themselves alone in the museum, where nothing is quite as it seems. Caught up in a day that keeps repeating itself, Bertie and Kate are eventually separated, and Bertie is faced with a mystery that threatens to derail everything. In order to make her way back to Kate, Bertie has to figure out how much control she has over her future—and her past—and how to survive an apocalypse when the world keeps refusing to end. . Book 401: "A Lady's Guide to Marvels and Misadventure," by Angela Bell A delightful travelogue/comedy/romance, Theodore, Clara, and her mother (and some fox babies, and a live ermine, and a turtle) are on a scavenger hunt on the continent to find Clara's grandfather. The sites and history the journey presents are well-balanced with the inner journey of the main characters, as well as the slow-burn romance, and the underlying menace of an antagonist who trails in their footsteps. "Balance" is a great way to describe this book. There are deep conversations and inner dialogues that are adorned by moments of physical comedy. The history and site-seeing are detailed but also paced slowly enough so that you don't get lost. The progression of the plot maintains a steady pace while we watch Clara and Theodore release the shadows of their pasts to walk in freedom by the end. 4/5 🌟 Rating: G #bookstagram #bookreview #bookrecommendations #bookstagrammer #bookshelf #booksbooksbooks #booklover #bookstagrammers #ilovebooks #bookcommunity #booksofinstagram #booklife #bookcover #christianbooks #theologybooks #christianreading #christianauthor #history #historynerd #cleanfiction #cleanromance #closeddoorromance #yafiction #youngadultfiction #TalesofaBookHoarder
