#uponsleeping Though I just made a comment about the wisdom of getting into a conversation on philosophy at bedtime, I still can not help but think upon how fortunate I am to have had the conversation, and not for the obvious reasons. Rather, because within the rediscovery, I, too, was rediscovering. (Hmmm, that cannot possibly be the correct punctuation. Oh, that's going to bug me. Not thinking about it!!!) Good morning, daydreamers! Was anyone else awakened by horribly wonky drumming this morning? That's unfortunate! It'd make you appreciate all the days you weren't so much more. 😹 . I think today's going to be a get lost in some tunes and finish meal prepping day while doing other chores, too. Confession time. I planned my month out quite precisely in an egg to meat ratio. Last week, I chose to ignore the eggs, so my ratio is all messed up now. There's a valuable lesson in this. I'm just not sure if it's "There's a grocery store up the road." or "Learn some restraint!" *insert head scratch emojimathingie* I joke. I jest. Of course, I'm going with the latter. Probably only because of the whole point of May, otherwise... So, let's see how many days it takes before I never want to see another egg again. I give myself uhmmm, let's see. Factors in the important details. Ponders if making a flourless torte would be cheating since it has eggs and butter. Suddenly remembers the smoked gouda in my fridge and adds a few more days. Contemplates whipping up some mayo for deviled eg then remembers I have no pickles. I do have dill and apple cider vinegar, though. Realizes I probably should stop typing out my every thought and goes wiiiittthhhh... three. I give myself three days. Four tops. Naaa. It's all about the attitude, baby! It's going to be an eggariffic month and by June 1, I'm going to feel phenomenal! Time for a high pony and tunes. What's on your menu for the month? Don't tell me unless you like drool! . My heart is still full from this past weekend. Reactivated Poetic Pieces and the community showed up and out in every way. The poets were spitting that fire, @b1azeburnitup had the whole crowd singing and @keiaratrenae closed out the show so beautifully. @djzariferrari had the people dancing, with bottles from @atasteoflove__ at that! @lillovebucket sold out of food and everyone showed love!!! It was truly beautiful. It’s been a while since I’ve read Poetry and I did a little something this night and the feedback was nice. I’m so grateful to be able to continuously create space for our creatives, for our people, for the love of the arts. And the Art of poetry means a lot to me. My first love. The way I would escape, the way I would express, my confidant. My love for poetry never left I just gained some other love interests along the way. But this, this love will never leave. Good morning, daydreamers! We just had a small tip of a storm sweep through and it was most glorious! How I love water! I swear I must have been a hurricane in a past life. Just spinning and spinning and spinning away then sinking deep and basking in the chilling dark depths where sound is an enveloping blanket of bone deep sensation. . I was once told I should fancy my poetry up. Make it more poetic. I get it. It's all pretty when written that way. Sometimes, I just don't care. It's not about fancy wordplay or intoxicating rhythms. It's just about being in the moment and letting the moment speak instead of trying to speak for it. A single bird is currently calling out. Its breath warbles at the end of the second passage. If not paying attention, someone might think it is repeating itself, but it's not. It's subtly changing multiple notes with clear intention. I love the echoing middle of one repetition. It's as if it has swallowed its own voice and is echoing as it chirps. So cool. . Wondrous end to such a melodic symphony. . We're absolutely delighted to bring you the first of these & we couldn't think of a better way to kick things off! Award-winning poet, Isabel Galleymore, comes to Gloucester Road Books to read from and discuss her brilliant new poetry collection, Baby Schema, with radio producer and creative writing facilitator, Mark Smalley. 7pm, Wednesday 29th May. Baby Schema is a 2024 Poetry Book Society Choice and opens up several worlds at once; from the impact of climate and nature degradation to species extinction, in part seen through the lens of ‘cuteness’ and what it reveals about our place in the disconcerting world of hyper-capitalism. Spotlight on PHOEBE WAGNER 🍻 Phoebe Wagner returns to Catford Mews to present ‘(Pub)lic House’, a film about empty pubs in Croydon, made of interviews edited into poems, maps into animations and words written by the community. Pubs across Croydon have been boarded up, abandoned and left to be empty. Phoebe remembers growing up in them. Roger (her Dad) remembers playing music in them since the early 90s. Together they go on a pub crawl across Croydon asking 3 questions: “What happened in these pubs, what are they now and what could they become?”.
