A reading by two Poets Laureate Saturday, 5/18/24, at 5:30 pm at @somostaos Salon, 108 Civic Plaza Dr, Taos, NM FREE Join us to hear poetry from the Taos Poet Laureate, Miguel Santistevan @aguila_tortuga and the Santa Fe Poet Laureate, Tommy Archuleta @tommy5oh5 Santistevan is a teacher, storyteller, musician and an amazing poet. For the 2024- 25 theme of “Poetry with Youth,” he will use his position as a guest lecturer in the public schools and other venues to recruit young people to submit poetry, artwork, and photographs for a project called “Querencia en poesia.” This project will result in a DIY publication of a zine that will be something that can be shared in print or digitally. When the zine is completed, there will be a reception with reading and projection of the featured poems, art, and photos of the young people who are willing to perform their pieces. Archuleta works as a mental health therapist for the New Mexico Corrections Department. Most recently his work has appeared in the New England Review, Laurel Review, Lily Poetry Review, The Cortland Review, Guesthouse, and the Poem-a-Day series sponsored by the Academy of American Poets. Susto, his full-length debut collection, published April 2023 by the Center for Literary Publishing, is featured in the November/ December 2023 issue of Poets & Writers as part of the magazine’s annual, 5 Over 50, column. Appointed Poet Laureate of Santa Fe January of this year, he will serve his hometown in this capacity throughout 2024 and 2025 respectively.
