Macy Coad, Granite Bay High School Class of 2025, attended the CA Chronic Care Coalition Stars of Advocacy Gala last Wednesday night with her parents, where Macy was awarded the Inaugural Rising Star Award for her commitment to state advocacy. Macy has juvenile arthritis and has been advocating for bills at the State Capitol for many years that will help those with arthritis and other chronic conditions. One bill she’s currently lobbying for is CA Assembly Bill 2180, All Copays Count by Assembly member Akilah Weber, MD (D-79). This bill would ensure that CA health insurance plans and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) count the value of copay assistance from patient assistance programs (PAPs) towards a patient’s deductible and out-of-pocket maximum expenses. The CA Chronic Care Coalition is comprised of 30+ patient and provider health groups. Recently #mennohenselmans posted about " #research" in which "scientists argued" that the #Olympics / #internationalolympiccommittee "discriminated against #women" by allowing the participation (under strict parameters) of #transwomen in the #OlympicGames. Let's be clear about several things: 1. This is NOT a study or META ANALYSIS that directly addresses the participation, outcomes, or competitive results of cisgender or trans women in the Olympic Games. Period. 2. This is an OPEN LETTER. In which participants signed support, or actively quoted studies and literature to support their position - this is NOT the same as an objective study. Again, none of this research addresses the parameters of Olympic Games #competition. 3. This OPEN LETTER was organised and actively funded by multiple, explicitly anti-trans and anti- #lgbt political lobbying groups. 'Alliance Defending Freedom', 'Women's Place UK', 'Sex Matters' and the 'Independent Council On Women's Sports' are not objective or unbiased participants concerned with #scientific fact, they are agenda driven lobbying groups with a specific financial, political and ideological investment in these scientists saying exactly what they want them to say - that transwomen are a threat to non-trans women in the sports arena. I am not a scientist, nor a researcher - but I can spot clear, demonstrable ideological biases when I see them. There IS a discussion to be had about #trans athletes and their participation in #sports, and any and all potential #advantages that may arise as a result of natural growth through puberty or the addition / absence of hormonal treatment. For example, a single carton of chocolate milk exceeds the recommended daily limit of added sugar for children. 🥛🍫💣 🎯 Black and Hispanic children are disproportionately targeted by advertising for unhealthy products.🎯🍭🥤 🏫 The US Department of Agriculture proposes reducing added sugars and sodium limits in school meals. Some states support programs that encourage the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables through food assistance benefits. 🥗🍎 🌬️ Gas stoves contribute to indoor air pollution and have been linked to childhood asthma. Règlement emballages et déchets d’emballages : le Parlement européen adopte, Mcdonald’s gagne. Les premières critiques et mobilisations écologistes contre Mcdonald’s remontent à 1990, en Suisse. Elles ne visaient pas la « malbouffe » ou le non respect du droit social, mais bien l’utilisation systématiques d’emballages à usage unique (déjà !). Les jeunes écologistes du canton de Berne mobilisés avaient alors réussi un coup de force : sensibiliser une partie de l'opinion et à s'assurer le soutien de quelques députés pour demander, en vertu du droit " d'initiative populaire ", une modification de la loi cantonale conditionnant l'octroi d'une patente à un restaurant à l'emploi de vaisselle réutilisable. Plus de 30 ans plus tard, Mcdonald’s a gagné. L’usage unique aussi. Ce mercredi 24 avril, les eurodéputés ont définitivement adopté le Règlement Emballages et déchets d’emballages ( #PPWR) par 476 voix pour, 129 contre et 24 abstentions. S’il faut saluer les avancées permises par ce texte, Il n’y aura pas de règles européennes harmonisées imposant la vaisselle réutilisable dans la restauration rapide. Il y a une interdiction visant les emballages à usage unique dans la restauration rapide. Mais… les emballages en papier et en carton ne sont pas concernés par le nouveau texte. Une victoire totale pour Mcdonald’s, fruit d’une campagne d’influence inégalée par son ampleur menée depuis plus d’un an par le géant américain, en lien avec le lobby du papier et du carton et celui de la restauration rapide. #PPWR #lobbying #mcdonalds #mcdo #emballages

„Netzwerkst du noch, oder lobbyierst du schon?“ ➡️ Am 13. April hatte ich die Ehre, den Workshop „Faires & transparentes Lobbying“ im Rahmen des EDUCA-Weiterbildungs-Moduls zum Thema Lobbying & Interessenvertretung in Korneuburg bei der @raiffeisen.ware.austria zu leiten, den ich für rund 30 junge Menschen aus der @jungelandwirtschaft zusammengestellt hatte. ➡️ Ziel dieses Workshops war es, den Teilnehmenden die Bedeutung von Lobbying als Werkzeug zur Durchsetzung von Innovationen zu vermitteln, besonders für kleinere und mittlere landwirtschaftliche Betriebe. 🌱 ➡️ „Netwerkst du noch, oder lobbyierst du schon?“ Diese und ähnliche Fragen stellte ich den Teilnehmern nachdem ich ihnen Basis-Methodik und konkrete Erfolgs-Praxisbeispiele vermittelt hatte. In interaktiven Diskussionen und praxisnahen Übungen half ich ihnen dabei, ihr Verständnis und Wissen zum Thema „Lobbying“ zu erweitern und es für sich anwendbar zu machen. 🤝 ➡️ Meine Kernbotschaften: „Bloßes Netzwerken mit Andocken an vorhandene Lobbys reicht oft nicht aus. Richtiges Lobbying erfordert den Aufbau eigener Lobbys, um sich gezielt durchsetzen zu können. Dabei kontrolliert man selbst die wesentlichen Mechanismen und wählt Partner aus, die aufgrund gemeinsamer Interessen zur Zusammenarbeit bereit sind.“🔍 ➡️ Ich berichtete davon, wie man mit 4 Kern-Modulen eine eigene Lobby aufbaut und wie man sie dann auch führt. The conference opening session started on Friday afternoon during which our guest speaker, Ms Ettie Higgins, the Deputy representative of UNICEF Lebanon, presented the work UNICEF is doing to preserve the children’s rights in conflict zones in Sudan, Syria, Gaza, and specifically in Lebanon. The session was followed by a Q &A session where our students asked interesting questions that surprised our guest with their background information. On the final day of Florida’s legislative session, state lawmakers approved one of the most controversial bills of the year, blocking local governments from requiring employers to provide basic heat safety protections for their workers, such as shade, water breaks, employee monitoring and “appropriate first-aid measures.” It also bans cities and counties from regulating employers’ scheduling practices and, effective Sept. 30, 2026, from requiring employers they contract with to pay employees a rate higher than Florida’s minimum wage, which is currently $12 an hour. I'm so proud of the health policy advocacy work we did this past Thursday to reduce toxic pesticides from our California food supply. We were able to meet & speak to four legislature staffers on extending protections of no pesticide spraying during 6 am-6 pm on school days and within 1/4 mile to private schools & daycares instead of just public schools, the ban of the VERY toxic pesticide paraquat, and increasing the Mill Fee to fund the California state Department of Pesticide Regulation from 0.211 to 0.286 cents when buyers purchase pesticides. Some legislators offices were very responsive and engaged, asking questions, taking notes, & offering support while others just stared at us, their constituents 😤. But that's the work of advocacy, to speak your voice for what is right for our Latinx community, who is disproportionately affected by pesticides, both as farm workers and residents. As a nurse, the legislators DO listen when you speak about the realities of public health harms to the community. We have a very unique ability to translate & share data into human stories. It's easier than you think. It's just a conversation with the person we elected and whose job it is to work for us. This is my second time this year doing advocacy work and every time I go, I learn something new, meet someone new and inspiring, & become reinvigorated and inspired to make peoples' health better. It doesn't take anything more than a willingness to do this kind of work. The lovely people I went with were community members and farm workers, some of which didn't speak English. They woke up at 4 am & drove hours, just to share their stories, their voices, their concerns, and won't stop until things change. My role was to support their stories with science and public health. Together we made a great team and I'm so grateful for their "Si se puede" Attitude & César Chávez and Dolores Huerta spirit. Am 16.4. durfte ich bei einem WKO-im-Bezirk EU-Empfang teilnehmen, bei dem Frau Bundesministerin Mag.a Karoline Edtstadler Einblicke in die aktuellen Themen in der EU gab. 🌍 Insbesondere bedauerte sie das Zustandekommen der europäischen Lieferketten-Richtlinie, weil sie für die österreichischen KMU eine sehr hohe Belastung brächten. On Monday, I had the honor of participating in passing legislation to protect California teens from abuse in the troubled teen industry. @parishilton and @11.11media invited me to the State Capitol to support Paris Hilton’s testimony and SB 1043. SB 1043 passed the senate committee hearing with unanimous support. As a survivor of institutional child abuse in the troubled teen industry and longtime advocate for change, this was the most fulfilling and healing thing I have done in a very long time. This senate hearing could not have taken place in a more personal location; my mom sold my childhood home, moved to the Sacramento area and started a new family while I was trapped at an abusive boarding school called Alpine Academy, unable to have a voice in these decisions. What you see here is the culmination of 9 years of research and underground advocacy finally bearing fruit. I will forever be so grateful to Paris Hilton for coming forward with her own story and using her platform not only to highlight the voices of other survivors but to lobby for change at the state and federal level. It is an honor to stand alongside other survivors in the fight for justice and take part in something so aligned with my soul’s work on this Earth. Si tratta della quarta edizione di seminari organizzati dalla cattedra di Lobbying e democrazia e, quest’anno, anche col supporto di quella di Istituzioni di diritto dell’Unione europea.🧑🎓🇪🇺 Tra gli appuntamenti in calendario si susseguiranno vari ospiti come Lorenzo Castellani e Giovanni Piccirilli, docenti presso l'Università LUISS Guido Carli di Roma, Andrea Pritoni, docente presso l'Università degli Studi di Torino, Claudia Velardi, direttore de "Il Riformista", Pasquale Annicchino, docente presso l'università di Foggia, Giuseppe Verdone, Capo Ufficio Legislativo del Ministero dell'Istruzione e del Merito, Roberto Di Maria, docente dell'Università degli Studi di Enna "Kore" e Federico Anghelé, direttore di "The Good Lobby". I partecipanti avranno l’occasione di confrontarsi con esperti del fenomeno lobbistico e di stabilire relazioni per ulteriori eventuali specializzazioni post-laurea.
