By capturing their attention and then moving slowly, they will start to follow the object. If they loose it, try again by holding the object in their eye line. 4 months – Babies will not only notice what is in front of them, but will start to use arms and legs to try and reach objects in front of them. Hand/Eye co-ordination is starting at this age. Don’t give in to temptation as pom poms and grippy hands aren’t a good combo! + 6 months – babies are more coordinated from this age, but have the new challenge of depth perception to master. Once sitting up, they become better at judging distances and work on balance. A Parent’s Love ❤️ It’s something so hard to explain but when you have children you learn a whole new level of love and feel a responsibility bigger than anything you have ever felt before, which is both amazing and so overwhelmingly worrying all at the same time. We teach them right from wrong, we teach them to be good people, we teach them how to love, we teach them how to laugh and have fun but most of all, deep down without even realising it we are constantly teaching them how to be safe and doing our upmost to protect them from harm. I’ve said it already on stories today that we try not to comment too much on the news, as let’s face it it’s quite negative all the time but the news today really felt so heavy and it’s been on my mind all day what happened to that young boy simply on his way to school. Feeling so grateful tonight that we have our two tucked up in bed after lots of extra hugs and cuddles tonight, knowing that it won’t be too long before they will both be venturing out without us there to protect them and that really is a scary thought. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of anyone affected by what happened this morning and thank the emergency services for their bravery and all that they do for us everyday ❤️ #parenting #parentsofinstagram

Research finds that children who grow-up with emotionally available and responsive caregivers are better able to regulate their emotion than children who don’t have this support available during childhood (e.g., see the Minnesota Study of Risk and Adaptation From Birth to Adulthood). When children can expect that their caregiver will help them achieve emotion regulation, they learn that emotional states can be tolerated and changed. First-hand experience, especially when repeated over time, literally shapes the brain and nervous system, with downstream consequences for the way we engage with the world around us, deal with emotions, and behave socially. This transforms one of the key questions about raising kids: Perhaps we should ask not how to teach our children kindness, but how we want the children in our lives to experience kindness from us? On this logic, we can’t punish, spank, shame, or guilt kids into being kind, empathic people. For example, though spanking and physical discipline are common ways that parents enforce “good behavior,” decades of evidence across multiple contexts and cultures demonstrates that this typically backfires. Children who experience corporal punishment are at increased risk for anxiety and depression, behavior problems, and struggles with substance use as adults. If we want to raise kind, respectful kids, we have to show our kids kindness and respect—and to model these traits toward others.
