We moeten weer een jaar geduld hebben voordat ze hun koppie opnieuw boven de grond steken: morieljeseizoen is weer voorbij! Het was een gek seizoen: op veel van mijn vaste vindplekken vond ik weinig of niks. Op sommige plekken waar nooit iets groeide stonden ze volop. Dit is wat de jacht naar deze zwammen zo speciaal maakt: morieljes zijn onvoorspelbaar en een tikkeltje mysterieus. Net als ik🍄😏 Dit voorjaar heb ik een aantal hele leuke mensen middels een wildplukwandeling en lunch kennis kunnen laten maken met de unieke smaak van de morielje. Ontzettend tof om te doen en voor herhaling vatbaar. Binnenkort komen er nieuwe data voor wandelingen online, dus hou de socials en m'n site in de gaten! The burns are starting to produce a reasonable quantity of morels. This year's abundant rains and warm weather are making the magic happen in the mountains! Last year the rains werent consistent enough to get a good flush in my area but this year seems different so far. Morels are my favorite #mushroom to pick for the sheer enjoyment of the endless perfect spring weather and that feeling of bewilderment and satisfaction at the end of the day. Walking miles in the back country, away from it all and focused on only the thrill of the hunt. What could be a better life?! Käppchenmorchel ( Morchella semilibera ) Jaaaa, endlich kann ich eine Stelle als Morchelstelle bestätigen. Vor zwei Jahren habe ich sie zum ersten Mal an der gleichen Stelle gefunden. Dieses Jahr waren sie wieder da. Damals habe ich sie probiert, aus reiner Neugierde. Sie haben auch super geschmeckt. Allerdings sammle ich sie an dieser Stelle fortan nicht mehr, da sie sich direkt an einer Straße befinden, an der auch regelmäßig Hunde hinpinkeln. If dreams are able to leap into reality, mine sure did today. Way back in the day, Evan & I used to spend a ton of time mushroom hunting together, then the 3 of us would, but ol life has a way of getting in the way sometimes, and while I love going alone, going with Evan & Skylar was just what the doctor ordered. This morning, all 3 of us busted our buns to get some serious chores under our belts, then, we boogied to the woods. Would’ve loved to had grandpa join but he’s a busy dude and was giving a soil presentation this afternoon. Anyway, it was my hope to lead Evan & Skylar to a “don’t move a single foot; we’re surrounded!!!” spot…. low and behold, we spend 2.5hrs in exactly such a place! 7.25#! And, Evan and Skylar gave me perhaps the greatest compliment ever; “You have got to be making these appear because they were NOT just there.” (They were, but of all things I could be associated with, mushroom magic totally takes the cake.) #morchella #heartcupisfull

I was Blessed today! 😁🍄🙌🏻 I’ve ventured out at least a dozen times searching for morchellas in the past few weeks. I Headed North to a couple of spots and didn’t spend much time bc I wasn’t finding any and mosquitos were bad. 😩 I’d just gotten to my car and the gentleman parked next to me showed up and asked if I’d had any luck. It’s funny that’s a common greeting. 🤣 I replied ‘no’ and asked him the same he shook his head and said ‘not really’. We chatted for a minute and he reached into his car and handed me 1/2 a bag of prize morels. 😃 That doesn’t happen! THEN he takes me to his spots and we find another 1/2 dozen!! I’ve looked for YEARS and only was successful a few times. I’ve never found morels this big and I know folks are finding larger ones. Regardless I’m very thankful and eager. Plus I’d already told myself today was the last day I was going to go search. New Earrings! These are the most recent earrings I've made and added to my Etsy shop, first we have Morchella esculenta, the Yellow Morel, and second we have Stropharia cerulea, the Blue Roundhead mushroom. The Yellow Morel is a highly sought after wild mushroom, found all over North America. Associated with forest fires, grey pinesand deciduous forests, it is the second most expensive wild mushroom in the world, right after truffles. It is incredibly difficult to find, and almost impossible to cultivate, hence the exorbitant prices. It is hollow on the inside, makkng it easy to identify and tell apart from their poisonous look-alikes. The Blue Roundhead is a somewhat common species, found in Nord America and Europe. It features a dark blue-green cap and prominent white flecks, which are remnants of a partial veil. Their edibility is unknown. It is a saprophyte, which means that it helps processing decomposing organic matter. They are quite difficult to identify properly, since other species of Stropharia share characteristics with each other. Idag kom äntligen våren på riktigt och tio steg utanför dörren växte plötsligt två toppmurklor, Morchella conica! De har aldrig visat sig tidigare. Dessutom växte det stenmurklor, Gyromitra esculenta, överallt bland granarna på baksidan. Die Speisemorchel #morchellaesculenta Der bevorzugte Standort ist fast genau so wie bei der Spitzmorchel #morchellaelata normalerweise im Auenwald, reich an Nährstoffen und somit eher basisch. Wenn die Nährstoffe wie z.B. Kalk stimmen am Standort, kommt es jedoch relativ häufig vor, dass wir sie auch in Gärten, Obstwiesen, Parks, im Rindenmulch und sogar in Nadelwäldern finden, dort eben in der Nähe von befestigten Wegen wegen denn Mineralstoffen. Erfahrungsweise jetzt schon sehr oft auf Obstwiesen gefunden, meisten in Gewässernähe. Saison: Mitte März bis Ende Juli Inhaltsstoffe Morcheln allgemein: vergleichsweise viel Vitamin D und B-Vitamine viele Mineralien, sehr viel Eisen ein sehr ausgeprägtes Aminosäurenprofil, ca. 20% Protein im getrockneten Zustand Polysaccharide auch Guanosinmonophosphat der Stoff, der bis zu 20x stärker wirkt als Glutamat und ein breites Aminosäurenprofil, dass für den starken (Umami) Geschmack bei den Morchelgerichten sorgt und viel andere Stoffe die auch auf unser Allgemeinbefinden unsere Leistungsfähigkeit und Glücksgefühle wirken. Bestimmung: hohler Stiel, der Ganze Pilz ist hohl Hut hat wie eine Struktur wie Waben, jedoch viel unordentlicher, nicht so strukturiert und haben keine geradlinigen, senkrecht verlaufenden Linien wie bei der Spitzmorchel. Der Hut ist fast übergangslos am Stiel angewachsen. Immer auf eine löchrige, wabenartige Struktur achten.
