I’ve always wanted to try making cyanotypes. I gathered up some supplies for my very first time experimenting with the medium. I was happy with the results for the first try, all the while knowing I have a lot more experimenting and learning to do. I actually like the process photo I took more than the final print, swipe to see. Looking forward to playing around and trying the wet cyanotype methods to achieve different effects and textures. #sundayvibes
I’ve decided to widen the focus of this account and share my adventures in nature education and outreach, as well as my cyanotype practice which is already rooted in nature. It’s been such a long time since I have printed, but I hope to get back to it over the coming months! A new work opportunity has presented me with more spare time, so I intend to use that to do more prints, including more denim jackets! I’m also using that time to upskill myself in nature education and outreach. I have a number of exciting things coming up this year, which I’ll share in turn. 🌿 2024 Workshop Class🌿 Experimental Cyanotype Printing with Jessie Swimeley . Cyanotype is a great way to nature print! Cyanotype and nature printing have a long history together. From the first photographically illustrated book by Anna Atkins in 1843 to modern science classrooms, people have created detailed lovely blue prints! And so will we! In the Experimental Cyanotype workshop students will learn how to go beyond the monochromatic blue of the traditional print. We will explore how pH, overexposure, and using the emulsion wet changes the color of the cyanotype. . As a photos and print-based mixed media artist, Jessie Swimeley @jessies6005 finds great joy in uncovering beauty and significance in the insignificant. Pushing the boundaries of what a photograph can be, she creates images that delve into the patina of life, examining how we are changed by the landscape we inhabit and how we change that landscape in return. Jessie is the 2024 Artist in Residence at City of Rocks National Preserve in Idaho, where she is working on printing native plants for her series Botanical Heritage.
