Clematis Montana Mayleen inspired the design for my latest scarves.🌸 This is the version printed with the negative image meaning the area within the lines was removed. This one is printed on lovely smooth crepe de chine silk which has a nice drape and weight. I dyed the scarf pink first then printed using an eco friendly ink that I blend and mix myself to my own colour palette. Once the colours are fixed I then hand wash and iron them. So it’s quite a process to create these unique scarves but one that I very much enjoy doing. It’s a bag! I made this shibori quilted design into a bag. One side stitched shibori on sulfur cosmos dyed fabric hand embroidered with sulfur cosmos dyed embroidery floss. Other side botanically printed and quilted with sulfur cosmos embroidery floss. On the inside fabric was dyed with common reed on one side and botanically printed on the other side. Many hours of dyeing and hand stitching went into this bag. But I loved the time stitching and meditating on the circles of life we weave and how we chose to interact and view the world around us. The pattern for this bag came from the @farmandfolk farm and folk’s book Quit Alchemy. Scroll ➡️ on the photo carousel to see all my Buddleja moments I’ve been having a bit of a buddleja (buddleia) obsession over the last few months. This shrub is mainly deciduous but usually there are leaves that remain over the winter, providing some leaves for botanical printing in the depths of winter. Now that we are enjoying the warm of spring at last. The buddleja are growing vigorously. Buddleja have a vibrant yellow flavanoid dye that gives a vivid yellow on textiles when using aluminium mordants and green when used in combination with textiles treated with aluminium mordant and iron salts. The texture and colours of the leaves vary a lot with the individual shrub and I have found a favourite plant that gives me vivid greens and lovely texture and dynamic shapes. These leaves produce beautiful prints on cotton linen, silk or wool. All the works flow details of the prints shown here are shared on my Facebook group. Foi dia também de relembrar a importância destas tertúlias onde nos propomos aproximar de quem somos nas tradições e práticas simples, ligadas à terra e às plantas que nos são tão familiares. From the edible to the medicinal, passing by the toxic ones and, more recently, the dyeing plants, through the hands and teachings of Faia - AnaFaia Supico. Faia was in residence as part of Pela Terra 2025, where she created a relationship with the dyers who live in Idanha-a-Velha, presenting her journey and process in a day full of colour, joy and beautiful dyes and prints!
