I love a good quest/impossible task/heist plot line (just ask some of my favourite booksโฆ Six of Crows, The Drowned Woods, Spin the Dawn. The list goes on). This book kicked off action packed and with one of my favourite plot points; main character has to complete a โchallengeโ of some kind to progress on in their career/education. From the get go, I loved our FMC Wren- she was witty, headstrong, and brash in a way that I found incredibly endearing and had me excited to see her character development throughout the book. I liked that we got this down-and-out, redemption arc vibe from her story, and I really enjoyed all of the characters we found along the way. Leo was such a fun character and I loved how his POV got thrown in a couple times to spice up the plot. His friendship with Wren was everything I wanted- the banter, the light flirting, the instant platonic chemistry was incredibly enjoyable. And then we have Julian. Julian, Julian, Julian- how I love you so. I really enjoyed this enemies-to-lovers, opposites attract, forced to work together vibe between him and Wren and it just tickled me in a way that made this book incredibly fun and exciting. I DEVOURED THIS!! ATE IT UP. LEFT NO CRUMBS. The world building was done in a way that wasnโt dumpy or overwhelming, and I found myself really understanding what was going on, who was who and what everything meant. Iโm also incredibly glad that the end of the book wasnโt a massive cliff hanger, because I now have to wait patiently for the next book in this duology. No this is not a reread. This is the first time I have sat down and delved into the world of Percy Jacksonโฆ terrible truly. I absolutely adored this first book and I am so incredibly excited to binge read the rest of the series. I read this incredibly fast and immediately fell in love with our characters, the plot and the prose. It was funny and quick, heartfelt and exciting and I just was here for it from start to finish. I love Percy as a character, and I think Annabeth and Grover are wonderful as well. I like the characterisation of the Gods and how unique each are, and I enjoy were the plot is heading. I think the rest of the series is going to be read in quick succession if Iโm being completely honest (sorry to the rest of my TBR). Finally, I managed to finish Powerless by Lauren Roberts for my bookclubs monthly read, and I am over the moon that I was able to experience this book because of them. I have honestly loved reading this book. It took me back to the era of Hunger Games, Divergent, Maze runner, etc, and it is something I have been missing in books for quite some time.
