My preordered Rose Garden Pink edition album arrived in the mail last night and I'm 🥹🥹🥹 This album brings me back to my Starbucks days, blasting New Romantics during closing time, sending snaps to friends of me dancing to Shake It Off every time I heard it on the radio, screaming Style in the shower, crying to Clean with @rachelmot at the 1989 World Tour... Those days seem like an eternity away. It kind of has that same magical, rose-tinted filter that this album radiates. A sense of surreality. I remember, as a once snobby emo kid, feeling like Taylor Swift was my guilty pleasure. But when this album came out, that all changed. She went from a secret love of mine to a full fledged hero and role model to me. I became a Swiftie. I found myself blasting her music everywhere I went, singing to every lyric, defending her honor from the misogynists who minimized her down to that "girl who sleeps around and can't hold a boyfriend." I encountered so many people who said so many negative things about her but I stood my ground. Because it really felt like she was judged so harshly merely because she was a young female in the spotlight. And don't even get me started on the Kanye thing... This girl has been through shit. When people ask me about the source of my inspiration, my go-to response is that it can be found anywhere. A perfect example of this is the artwork for Skinny Puppy's 1989 "Testure" single sleeve taken from the album "VIVIsectVI". Interestingly, my inspiration for the design came from an unexpected source — the November 1988 issue of Metropolitan Home magazine. While I didn't outright copy it, I was captivated by the vibrant red fabric and the striking color combinations featured on the cover. I wanted to capture that essence, particularly the bold contrast of bright lime green against red. To bring the sleeve design to life, I purchased several yards of velvet in different colors. The cat skull, which became a central element, was sourced from a natural history mail-order catalog in New York. As for the large syringe, it was kindly provided by a friend who worked in a laboratory at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Given my limited resources, I couldn't afford proper studio lights, so I improvised by arranging all the components on the front stoop of my building. I photographed the composition in natural daylight, taking advantage of an ever-present resource in Vancouver — overcast skies. Speaking of "Testure," the title itself is a blend of "test" and "torture," reflecting Skinny Puppy's strong stance against vivisection and their advocacy for animal rights. It's worth mentioning that the cat skull used in the artwork was from a feline that had passed away naturally. Rus yazar Yevgeni Zamyatin'in 1920-1921 yıllarında kalem aldığı Biz kitabı, ilk olarak 1924 yılında yayımlanmış, distopik eserler arasında ilk sıralara adını yazdırmıştır. Tabi çoğu distopik eser gibi yazıldığı dönemde sakıncalı bulunan eser Sovyetler Birliği’nde ancak 1952 yılında ana dilinde okuyucularla buluşabilmiştir. Biz, kendisinden sonra gelecek olan distopik kült eserleri fazlasıyla etkilemiştir.
