The house was built in 1790 and was the home of Napoleon Achille Murat, Prince of Two Sicilies and nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte. The house still stands on St. George Street in the historic district of St. Augustine. This is the original historic wooden sign that once hung on the house before being removed and replaced at some point in the last 50 years. It dates to the around the turn of the Century. A slice of old Florida! Brass baggage tag from the Steamer Tarpon. Built in 1887, the SS Tarpon was thriving during the turn of the century as railroads started replacing steamship transportation. For over 30 years, the Steamer Tarpon made weekly runs along the northern Gulf coast. On August 30 1937, the Tarpon left Mobile, Alabama, loaded with as much freight as possible headed East. In the early morning of September 1st, the ship started taking on water as the seas became more turbulent. By dawn, the gale took over the vessel, claiming 18 of the 31 lives aboard. The wreck sits at the bottom of Gulf 7.8 nautical miles off Panama City in 90 ft of water and is now a Florida underwater Archeological Preserve.
