PAUL MCCARTNEY - OFF THE GROUND (1993) The album "Off The Ground" by Paul McCartney was recorded from november 1991 to december 92 and released in february 93. During the recording sessions of "Flowers In The Dirt" in 88 Paul put a new band together. With this musicians he made a very successful tour around the world in 89 and 90. In 91 the band got the new drummer Blair Cunningham. They made a little unplugged tour with him. After the work on the classical "Liverpool Oratorio", Paul wanted to make a new album with his band. Some of the songs on "Off The Ground" were already written in the 80s. Paul wrote others for this album. In the studio was a real band atmosphere like with the Wings or the Beatles in the old days. That's why it sounds very happy and relaxed. Two of the songs are with Elvis Costello and originally recorded for "Flowers In The Dirt". With the beginning of the 90s there were more guitar poprock songs rather than 80s keyboard sounds. "C'mon People" was recorded with a 43 piece orchestra. The orchestral arrangements were written by George Martin. The lyrics of the songs are strong and socially critical. He sings about animal cruelty and hope for a better world. The single "Hope Of Deliverance" became a hit in Germany as well as the album. But it was the last time for many years that Paul was present on TV music channels and radio stations with a song. A lot of fans and critics think that "Off The Ground" is one of Paul's weaker albums. TP recently played host to ‘Off The Ground’ (OTG) – a dance 💃🕺 competition held by our very own Dance Ensemble @tpdeofficial – where our talented dancers ❤️ walked away with the first runner-up title! 🥈👏 Opened to all the Polytechnics and ITEs, OTG provided a platform for youth dancers to develop their personal attributes and interpersonal skills, while promoting inclusivity and celebrating diversity through a competition that brought together dancers from myriad walks of life.
