Everyone welcome my two new fosters Tater and Tot! Tater is a healthy chunky male and Tot is a tiny female. These two are five days old today. They are great eaters and I’m so happy to have kittens again. I picked them up from Milwaukee and will be transferring them to where I live closer to Green Bay. The person who found them said they waited 24 hours for mom to come back after they found these two on the front porch, but mommy never came back.😢 I’m so glad they helped give these two a chance at life. Meet Stevie (he/she) who was found all alone at a TNR site in St Louis. One of our foster moms went to get him as soon as she was told about him. His body temp was dangerously low and he was very dehydrated and lethargic. He only weighs 7 oz. Our wonderful vets at @thepetdoctorinc let her bring him in immediately and administered all the care he needed, bloodwork, fluids and nutrients. He is spending the night with me and will be monitored constantly through the night to make sure he continues to get fluids and nutrients and stays warm. We are expressing him as his mama would have to make sure he stays comfortable. Tomorrow he will go to another foster who excels with kittens in this condition and who just happens to have a mama kitty who just gave birth and is nursing her kittens-a match made in heaven! Shrimp!🍤 This kid has been giving me a major run for my money. In addition to his regurgitation issues, a few days ago he started leaking pale/white, blood-streaked, liquid stool and dropping weight. These are signs of infection and require emergent supportive care to prevent sepsis. I immediately cut all formula from his diet and spent a day administering LRS, sugar, two oral antibiotics, and probiotics via feeding tube. I slowly reintroduced formula back in one mL at a time until his stool was a normal mustard-yellow color. He finally gained some weight yesterday. But then he also started demonstrating suckling behaviors, which is not only harmful to his sister but could easily throw him right back into critical condition. So he’s been separated. Yesterday we also had to say a very sad goodbye to one of our tiny Shildonites a little black girl kitten These five babies came here two weeks ago as newborns and very tiny I was optimistic about their chances of survival but I got them as stable as I could and then it all went wrong Hit by a bacterial infection they started to deteriorate One little one sadly passed away yesterday So we are down to four Shildonites and four Barney Brawlers who I have to say are right little porkers! I got a call from our vet today that someone had surrendered a 24hr old kitten to them. Apparently her siblings died, mom had abandoned this little one, and the finder wasn’t able to care for her. Since I’m right up the road within 15min she was back at The Ranch and snuggled up in an incubator. Her body temp was critically low, but a few hours in the easy-bake got her warmed up and ready to eat. She’s taken tube feedings really well and is an active and loud little bean, all happy signs for a kitten with a rough start. Once I felt she was ready I introduced her to momma Aries and right away she was taken into her little family. Seeing cats adopt kittens will never not get me misty eyed!! This new baby is a week younger than her adoptive siblings, which is quite a gap at this stage of development, but she’s throwing elbows to get milkies so I’m not too worried. Having a momma to clean her and warm siblings to cuddle with are worth the risks. I’m still pulling her every two hours for weight checks and supplemental feedings until I know she’s gaining independently. She’s not out of the woods yet, but for the day she’s had she’s doing pretty well. Our sweet little Pipsqueak! We have had more ups and downs the last few days but she seems to be doing well again. Today I attached oxygen to the incubator and she has started to do a lot better with it on. For the first time ever she ate all of the formula in the syringe. She seems more comfortable too, she got really twitchy and it felt odd that she was twitching so much more than I had seen before and with the oxygen she really seems more comfortable and stronger. I see a tiny bit of moisture in the corner of one of her eyes so hopefully we will get some peepers soon. A little update on the orphans 🥰 At over a week old now, they’re finding their feet and some of their eyes are opening. They’re all gaining weight, some more than others but we’re watching them closely. It takes around an hour each time to feed, toilet and clean them all. Kitten Season is here, introducing Hansel & Gretel! On Monday, I got a text about a Good Samaritan who brought 2 orphaned kittens into a clinic that needed to be bottle fed and they couldn’t find fosters. The doctors at that clinic estimated they were approx 2 days old which means they still have their little umbilical cords attached! I took up the challenge and reached out to our friends over at @windsorkittens so that they could help us find them homes when they’re older and they were able to lend us an awesome incubator to help care for them! The kittens are now approx 4 days old and are slowly gaining weight but they are very fragile at this stage so fingers crossed we can keep these babies happy and healthy for the weeks to come. Bottle feeding is a big commitment but also super helpful to orphaned babies and to rescues! The more fosters they can have helping during kitten season, when bottle babies and other kittens are a common occurrence, the more lives they can help and save. There are many resources online for learning how to bottle feed kittens, my favorite being the wonderful @kittenxlady ! She does a great job of explaining and showing how to do everything. She basically taught me everything I know and has helped me bottle feed kittens for years and I still use her as a reference when fostering! New foster kitten! 🤍 She’s a spunky little 5 week old orphan kitten that absolutely loves to purr. She was found all alone outside without a mom or siblings. So far, she has been bottle fed in another foster home, where she was lovingly named Dwayne the Rat Johnson (nickname Rat or Dwayne 😅), and now she is with me since both her and Persi will need a friend/playmate as they grow up! Mama Clem has immediately accepted little Dwayne/Rat as her own and allows her to nurse, although I am still doing bottle feeding as needed. 🍼 Swipe to see some very sweet videos of Dwayne becoming a part of the family with Clem & Persi. Welcome Tilly & Willy!!😻 Tilly & Willy are part of the wonky legged litter. Willy (white with orange markings) & Tilly (calico) are doing great! They get around super well despite their wonky hind leggies💪 They 5 weeks old and are eating great and using the litter box👏 But their leggies tend to get in the way, so they need frequent birth baths after using the box🤪 The orthopedic specialist called and said they had an opening for TOMORROW!!! Yesterday I drove 2hrs to collect three orphaned neonates- two little blonde babies (possibly orange?) and a tabby. The finder had put them with a surrogate mom, but that mother wasn’t taking great care of them. One of our fosters, @emmaline_52 , has a nursing mama who lost 3 babies to a predator, and she has fortunately accepted these babies as her own! I’m very relieved to not have 3 more mouths to bottle feed, and it’s much better for them to have an actual mother and mom’s milk. Meet Ghost. 👻 The street cat, who wandered in recently, used to be taken care of by an old neighbour who just passed away this year. He is a bit rough around the edges but a very gentle soul, easy to pet with a small meow for food. Since we've met him, he just likes to nap around our yard, sometimes with eyes wide open...to the point of hardly looking alive (hence his name). Sadly, we noticed during one of his scary naps this week that he had a massive wound on the inside of his leg/thigh. 😱 All the skin was missing, and I will spare the nasty details. 🤢 Vet said it looked like an abcess or few burst, either from infection or perhaps cancerous tumours. They told us that he most definitely would have died soon had we not brought him in when we did. They said they needed to give him 72 hour treatment with medication, debride and clean up the wound and have a better look. They figured that his leg would need amputation due to the extent of the injury. 😭🥺 Poor baby must have been in a world of pain!! So far it's been good news, he is responding mostly well to the medicine, except diarrhoea, they believe it may not be cancer (no tests done though) and his leg should survive! He's still at the vet after 5 nights for his treatment, so it's been a long road for him...🤕🤒... but it seems he will be coming out on the other side. Update: We have been asked to stand down and not stir the pot. I don’t know what happened to these cats and I guess I never will. We were told a name of the person that was seen trapping a cat but apparently because of her position in the company, a blind eye is turned. There is nothing more we can do. Thank you to everyone who shared our post and messaged us with information. Call for help - Corpus Christi TX We need help finding several cats that were removed from the LyondellBasell Refinery off Mckinzie Road. The cats went missing between Saturday and Monday (4/6-4/8). 7 defenseless babies were left behind on the property and they really want their mommies back. We have checked with all the local rescues and animal control and we cannot find who trapped out there. Even if these cats were dumped in a new location, we will go out and trap them wherever they are, we just need to find them. If you have any information, please reach out to us privately. If you have friends or family members that work at the complex please ask if they saw anything or have any information on the cats. Pray that these cats were not killed and that we can reunite these innocent kittens with their mommas. Please help us. You may remember Homer who arrived with us a few weeks ago after he was found alone on a grass verge at only 1 week old. Sadly thorough searches of the area did not find a mum cat or any siblings. We welcomed little Homer into the rescue and we hoped to foster him onto one of our current mum cats. We were so happy that Steffi who had similar aged kittens was very happy to foster Homer and he became part of their little family 😍 Now 3 weeks on Homer is doing really well. He settled in perfectley with his new family, it's like he was always meant to be with them, and not just because they are all black and white! Steffi has been an amazing mum and brought Homer up as one of her own. At 4 weeks old Homer is such a friendly little kitten who has been enjoying exploring his pen, climbing and playing with his siblings. It's so lovely to see him growing and flourishing with his new family and we hate to think what could have happened if he was not found.
