This week’s reading update: 𓇼 Out of Love • Hazel Hayes ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ : I really enjoyed this, she has such a beautiful and brilliant writing style. I immediately ordered her new novel, Better By Far. Out of Love is such a unique novel in that it’s told backwards from when a couple breaks up and ends on the day they met. 𓇼 Anyone Who Can Forgive Me Is Dead • Jenny Hollander ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Initially I was really into this novel but the ending confused me and didn’t do much for me. It also really reminded me of Luckiest Girl Alive in a way. I still found it worth reading though. 𓇼 Normal People• Sally Rooney ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 - Don’t come for me lol. But I just wasn’t really into this one. I couldn’t really relate to the characters as much as I hoped. I want to watch the series and read other Sally Rooney novels. That’s what I read this week which is great because I’m hoping to average 2 novels a week to meet my annual goal !! 🤍 The second slide is some books I acquired over the last week and am super excited for ! 𝚃𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚝𝚜 💗 Happy bank holiday weekend Bookstagram 🌞 it is beautiful and sunny here in Bath this morning, although I don’t think it’s supposed to stay like this sadly. We have 0 plans this weekend which is a dream as we’ve had some busy ones recently and have some even busier ones coming up! So we’re just going to go with the flow ☁️ My wonderful Zachary and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary this week and before we went to The Ivy for dinner, we stopped by @toppingsbath where he treated me to a couple of new goodies 😍 Zack has been absolutely grafting on building me a custom mini library in our bedroom, all by himself with the rare snatches of free time he gets in between being a software developer and our busy family life, he’s hopeful it will finally be finished after this weekend and my beloved books will have a permanent home 🫶🏻 with these two beauties to add to the collection! I picked 𝗪𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 because I’ve seen such glowing reviews for it! I’ve only read Flawless by this author but I will be reading the rest of the Chestnut Springs series at some point so I couldn’t resist adding this one to the collection. I also chose 𝐎𝐮𝐭 𝐎𝐟 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 because A) Hazel Hayes is nostalgic to me from the old YouTube days 😅 and B) I’ve had this book on my ‘want to read’ list for quite a while and it called to me! The first time I received a fur jacket was for my 15th birthday, gifted by my father. It should have been a joyous occasion, but it marked a dark chapter in my life. That day, he unleashed his anger and violence on me, leaving my legs open and bleeding from the lashes of a Garrerson belt. My mother, pleading in her gentle voice for him to stop, watched from the doorway of my bedroom. The more she asked, the harder the belt struck me. I refused to let him see my tears, a small act of defiance amidst the pain. Yet there was an unexpected twist the next day, instead of an apology or a change in behavior, I found a fur coat on my bed. It was a peculiar form of twisted love that became normal, a material gift replacing words of remorse or genuine care. In the years that followed, makeup became my mask, concealing the scars and bruises, hiding the brokenness that lay beneath. Not returning to school till I could hide the outer bruises with my makeup. Looking back at the photo of myself adorned in that fur coat, I see a facade of glamour and elegance. But beyond the superficial allure, that coat was my shield, my protector. It represented survival, resilience, and the strength to rebuild my life. Despite the trauma, I emerged stronger. I sought therapy, confronted my demons, and became a better person. Today, I am a proud parent of two wonderful children, breaking the cycle of abuse and nurturing a loving home. In the midst of darkness, that fur coat became my light. It symbolized not just warmth but also the warmth of hope, of transformation, and of the courage to rise above adversity. The journey back to Lecara Freddi after 52 years was both exhilarating and daunting. As the unfamiliar sights of Sicily unfolded before me, I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed by a wave of emotions and my tears that didn’t stop flowing. This return wasn’t just a casual visit; it was a pivotal moment tied to the process of residency and citizenship, a step towards reconnecting with my roots. Which thankfully now long in hindsight was accomplished. However, amidst the excitement, a subtle pang of regret tugged at my heartstrings. Memories of my month-long stay in 1971 with my cousin Marianne, three zia’s and nonna Rosina flooded my mind. I couldn’t shake off the missed opportunities from that time. “Why hadn’t we explored my grandfathers hometown? Why didn’t we take a walk through the cemetery to pay respects to our ancestors? Tend to their graves?”These questions lingered, amplifying the emotional weight of this return. Now, decades later, I realize the significance of those missed chances, lost opportunities. The people I could have turned to for answers might not have known much more, but the act of asking would have brought a sense of closure. This photo of my Nonno’s home: it was the only home in the area without an address that the commune gave us that also wasn’t modernized at all. This journey wasn’t just about paperwork or residency,citizenship; it was about reclaiming a part of myself and family history. To better understand where I came from, and honoring the stories that shaped my family’s legacy. My grandparents have passes over 100 years ago. More Glam and less Slam today and I know that is not exciting news but we gotta keep this page alive somehow lel. This is the debut album from the band Blue Murder, a short lived Glam Metal band from 1987-1994 and was formed by John Sykes after his dismissal from Whitesnake (he was also in Tygers Of Pan Tang and Thin Lizzy before these two bands). The band would only have two albums as this is their debut and their last album Nothing But Trouble (1993) came out, but when that album came out it was in the popularity of Grunge. The 1990’s wasn’t really a good time for Glam Metal bands and apparently there has been multiple attempts to revive this band but nothing has came from it and this band has now seem to be lost in time. out of love by @thehazelhayes ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I love, love, loved this book!!! Hazel’s depiction of friendship, loss, and families was so well rounded and beautifully written. I really didn’t have dissatisfaction or critique. Theo does gift the narrator a vintage map of Dublin, and I was curious what she did with it after redecorating the apartment and packaging his belongings and their momentous. I highly recommend picking up this book! It’s written in a language that speaks to anyone who has loved, struggled, and is trying to heal. i'm experiencing a bit of post concert depression, so today i share with you one of my favourite albums! i don't read a lot of romance because i listen to so many songs about love that i don't see the point. besides taylor swift, this band couldn't be a better example of that. lany was such a huge part of my teen years, and i was very blessed to have (finally!!) seen them live in march 🩷 i've included some clips from that magical night: pink skies, cause you have to, thru these tears, sugar & cinnamon, ilysb, malibu nights 🌙 love. what a beautiful, fickle thing. we all crave it; we all chase it. and often times our first reaction when it doesn't work out is to run from the heartbreak that undoubtedly follows us around until we stop and sit with it awhile. as isolating as heartbreak can feel, there's nothing like a good song about it to bring into perspective that actually, that couldn't be further from the truth. malibu nights is an album dedicated to the depths of sorrow that is heartbreak, and the tentative steps one takes towards moving on. now, since i'm on the topic, i must highlight out of love by hazel hayes. i don't see this book on booksta but much like lany, i think it's an under-the-radar gem. it remains one of the best books i've ever read! a love story told in reverse, hayes takes us through the heartbreak and the turns that would eventually lead to it, ending in a moment full of promise and possibility. if you have any romance recs, please share them in the comments! i can't promise i'll get to them, but it gives me (and anyone else who may see this) a good starting-off point!
