El salir a limpiar nuestra isla, nuestro entorno cómo un acto de conciencia hacia la naturaleza, puede ayudarnos a ver más de cerca las problemáticas y reflexionar sobre cómo mejorar nuestra relación con el entorno. En menos de dos horas, en aprox 500 mts. juntamos mas de 450 kg. de residuos. Lo que más encontramos: botellas de cristal (en su mayoría cervezas) que no vienen del recale del mar, vienen de aquí mismo, de los turistas, de la gente local que se va a tomar su cerveza a la playa y de las empresas que aún no se hacen cargo de sus residuos y no implementan la #responsabilidadextendidadelproductor. Estamos ante una crisis muy grave de contaminación del océano y los ecosistemas por todo tipo de residuos, incluyendo los plásticos. Se estima que al 2050 habrá más plásticos que peces en el mar, se han encontrado microplásticos en muestras de sangre y leche materna, el plástico está por todas partes y no sólo el plástico, el vidrio y prácticamente todo lo que consumimos que terminan contaminando zonas naturales de gran valor para la isla. Packaging is the largest end-use market segment accounting for just over 40% of total plastic usage. The world generates at least 3.5 million tons of all kinds of solid waste a day, including the omnipresent plastic. Nowadays, there are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic trash in the oceans, an amount expected to triple by 2025 - but there is more. If we remain with our arms crossed, plastic will outweigh fish in the ocean by 2050. Consumerism forced us to feed and drown in our own garbage. India has become the first Asian Country to launch a Plastics pact on September 3, 2021. Key Points • This new platform was developed by World-Wide Fund for Nature-India (WWF India) in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). • It will help to promote a circular system for plastics. • New platform was launched by British High Commissioner to India, Alexander Ellis. • It will bring together prominent enterprises on a national level in order to make pledges for the creation of a circular plastics system. Aim of the pact • Commitments under the pact are aimed at keeping plastic packaging in the economy and out of natural environment. • It mentioned 17 businesses including major FMCG brands, manufacturers, retailers and recyclers who have committed with the pact as founding members. Nine businesses have joined as supporting organisations. • The pact provides for time-bound targets of reducing, innovating and re-imagining plastic packaging. • It aims to define a list of unnecessary or problematic plastic packaging & items and take measures to address these problems with the help of redesign and innovation, by 2030. • Under the pact, 100 per cent of plastic packaging will be made reusable or recyclable, 50 per cent of plastic packaging will be effectively recycled and 25 per cent average recycled content will be made across all plastic packaging. Plastic waste in India India generates about 9.46 million tonnes of plastic waste annually. Out of this, 40 per cent are not collected. - New Plastics Economy: Circula El Plástico - Chile is the 1st Latin American country to join the Plastics Pact Global Network and the 3rd country in the world, after England and France. It is also the first developing country to join this Global Network. 👍Good news: New Jersey signed legislation banning single-use plastic bags, paper bags and foam take-out containers! They are officially the 8th state to ban plastic bags and the first to ban paper bags. 👎Bad news: We still have a lot of work to do. Pollution in our waters not impacts our marine life that have to swim every day in it but also impacts our lives as it hurts our health. We record trash that we see offshore and last field season, we went on over 230 trips. In that year alone, we saw over 280 pieces of trash. One for each trip and more! 🚯 But we can do better. Are you taking part in #NoStrawNovember? Just by making simple switches like using your own bag or getting a reusable straw saves one more piece of plastic from getting thrown out.
