Big shout out to Jayne, Paula, Marian and Gwenno on the @onplanetpatrol SUP litter clean up as part of the Spring Water Watch campaign yesterday. The group collected cans, clothing, glass bottles, plastic fragments and packaging. Along with the litter pick they also gathered water quality data to check for ph, nitrate and nitrite and phosphate levels on the lake. A small amount of their time has hopefully made a big impact! On the way, the students stopped often to pick up trash. We ended up with three bags of garbage and some students even continued the clean up during recess! 🌎This year’s Earth Day theme is ‘Planet vs. Plastics’. To help the students easier relate to the theme, I read No More Plastic, in which a girl discovers a beached whale that had died from ingesting too much plastic. 🐋 The young girl takes immediate action to cut down plastic use in her own home, eventually creating a giant whale sculpture out of plastics she’d gathered along the beach. The sculpture begins to make others in the town ‘think big thoughts’ and real change begins to happen. 🐟 While we don’t live on the ocean, our school is on Lake Ontario, so the classes were able to connect the story to our own community. How might plastic in the lake affect the creatures living in it? The results are in from The Big Plastic Count 2024 🌏 An amazing 224,381 citizen scientists from 77,783 households and 29,000 school pupils took part in the campaign created by @everydayplastic, which given us all some surprising insights in to just how much plastic is being thrown away here in the UK. - UK households are throwing away an estimated 1.7 billion pieces of plastic packaging every week. That's 90 billion pieces per year. - The most counted category was food and drink packaging (3,769,205 pieces). - Over half (58%) of the pieces are being incinerated, which is up from 46% when the count was done in 2022. UN GLOBAL PLASTIC TREATY 🌎 Op dit moment zijn er ook onderhandelingen gaande voor een ander belangrijk verdrag, namelijk het internationale Plastic Verdrag. Afgevaardigden van verschillende landen zijn nu bijeengekomen in Canada om de toekomst van het verdrag te bespreken. 🙌🏼 Dit is heel belangrijk, omdat er nu alleen verdragen bestaan die een klein aspect van plasticvervuiling regelen. Er is nog geen internationaal wettelijke regeling die de plasticsoep, het plastic dat in de oceanen terechtkomt, aanpakt. Alleen dit jaar is er (tot nu toe) al bijna 3,5 miljoen ton plastic afval in de oceanen gedumpt. ❌ Waarom is een verdrag over plastic eigenlijk nodig? Plasticvervuiling is overal ter wereld te vinden. Het plastic dat we niet opruimen komt uiteindelijk via rivieren in onze zeeën en oceanen terecht. Door wind en stroming kan plastic de hele wereld ronddrijven. Er is dan geen enkel land dat verantwoordelijk is om dit op te ruimen. Tot nu toe is het de internationale gemeenschap ook niet gelukt om dit tegen te gaan. 🌊 這陣子莫名的能量很低， （不知道是不是因為準備回綠島要和我的小狗分開了） 低到覺得和想客製的客人們討論 都有點很不甘願的面對， 一直有一種完了！人家找我客製， 萬一我做出來不符合期待怎麼辦？ 就這樣存在著一方面 「對自己的作品獨特性有信心」 一方面「會不會哪邊粗心做不好不符合期待」 的矛盾心情渡過了這個禮拜。 不過前幾天收到一個可愛的客製， 是有故事的。 他說他的家鄉是龜山島（我想說哇賽也太酷了） 看到我的手繩裡放了魚線 想製作一個龜山島的手繩以表思鄉之情。 說到龜山島，片面的印象 聯想到的顏色當然是島的綠、海的藍和白， 但是我不想只有這樣。 沒去過龜山島的我查了一些資料小做功課， 才知道原來以前真的有人居住，但是後來因為軍事用途還有本來龜山島就因為生活不方便，很多島民都移往宜蘭居住，而遷移回台灣的島民大部分都聚落於宜蘭大溪並且以捕魚維生。 以前島民會使用一種叫「薯榔」的植物，它可以洗出紅色的汁液、讓纖維更堅固，所以島民會把衣服以薯榔染色、能讓衣服穿得更久。 所以我在手繩的配色裡，又選了馬克圓線、代表薯榔汁液的深紅色（馬克圓線摸起來像麻繩粗粗的！像漁網一樣）；還有澄黃色，是代表島民們在大海上討生活所需要照亮海面的光。 那道光呀，引領我們在海中拼搏，也帶著我們回家。 - 《出攤日預告》 5/18-19 高雄駁二青春設計節ft.小蝸牛 6/8台南藍曬圖市集 6/10 台北松菸文創小蝸牛市集 - 創作/客訂商品不會添加任何額外飾品、串珠，我的創作初衷是在減少海廢(remake)和商業販售間取得平衡，而不是為了迎合大眾口味而製造更多新的未來垃圾。 但是如果你有舊有的手鍊飾品，歡迎給我重新製作(reuse)延續生命！ #腳繩 #衝浪腳繩 #市集 #台北市集 #高雄市集 #綠島 #海廢 #海玻璃 #海玻璃手環 #海玻璃飾品 #海廢 #海廢再生 #重生 #海廢創作 #海玻璃飾品 #海磁磚 #シーグラス #seaglass #seaglassart #oceanwaste #nomoreplastic #小島日常 #綠島 #小琉球
