Today starts the hard part….now I need to switch my training focus to cycling because in 4 weeks time I have to be ready to cycle 100 miles @ridelondon . Only 5 days since running the @londonmarathon meant that today was tough and my legs, and in fact my whole body felt super tired. However I managed to ride 30miles and kept reminding myself why I am doing this craziness…... Over the weekend we went past half way on the fundraising and have raised a phenomenal amount of £22272 for @futuredreamscharity and @chaicancercare with 8 months to go to reach our £40k target. I made some big plans for this year, designed to push myself. But in the past couple of months, I had doubts creeping in. Whether it was the right choice. Whether I'm up for it, mentally and physically. Training was done alone most of the time, mainly indoors, thanks to the British weather. It felt good but also lonely. I hadn't found a cycling club nearby that felt right. Last summer, I joined a @molokocycling ride in Kent. For those of you who don't know them, they're a London-based, internationally-minded, and very welcoming group of cyclists. By the end of that ride, I asked to be added to the waiting list for their Mallorca trip the following April. A few months later, a spot opened up. If @cycling_shu has taught me anything, it's that it's always a good idea to spend one's birthday on a bike, preferably with stunning views. So I turned 33 in Mallorca. Soaked in the sun, the air, the views, the people, the food, the atmosphere (@fincasontia is such a special place). Remembered that I enjoyed riding in groups. Rode more in one week than I do in a month. Completed some of my biggest climbs to date. 8 reasons why you shouldn’t ignore strength training if you’re a cyclist… Are you missing a trick and thinking you’ll get better at riding a bike by practicing riding a bike? Training using resistance, either with body weight or with weights, can bring so many benefits to your bike rides and if you’re a cyclist or a mountain biker then you MUST NOT ignore it… And here are 8 BIG reasons why… Strength training will: 1 – Increase on-the-bike power, strength and endurance, depending on the aim of the session. 2 – Improve the health and strength of the joints and bones. 3 – Burn fat super efficiently and decrease overall body fat percentage. 4 – Boost metabolic rate, so more calories are burnt even at rest. 5 – Improve posture, both on and off the bike. 6 – Increase range of movement and flexibility. 7 – Prevent injuries by strengthening the muscles that are not targeted with on-the-bike training. 8 - Break any training plateau that you have found yourself hitting on the bike.
