Swami is a Raikwar, traditional boat-man caste. He works as a guide with the beautiful Ken River Lodge @kenriverlodge at Panna. He would take people across the River Ken in his boat till some bird-enthusiasts told him, that he should start learning the English names of the birds he showed them, and now there is no stopping him. He says that he knows 270 birds out of the 320 sighted in this area ! He showed me more birds , from Kingfisher to Robins to Snake Eagle than I have consciously seen in my life ! I meanwhile started talking about boat-making and kinds of local wood . He said that Arjun and Mahua are great woods for boats , not teak . Once seasoned the first two are tough in water, while teak is good as an indoor wood for furniture and doorways. He did'nt think too highly of teak !

Конечно, кроме туктука нам надо было заплатить ещё и за вход, все в лучших индийских традициях развода белых людей с 💰 ;) В общем, мы уже в принципе не надеялись попасть хотя бы в кусочек Нацпарка. А каньон там и правда есть. Ещё там есть аллигаторы, обезьяны и олени, между прочим ПЯТНИСТЫЕ (!). К слову, пятнистых оленей я видела только там.
