My first time at the beautiful Loch Ard. The wee winding road home. After more than 3 weeks away, visiting family in France and England, we have arrived back in South Erradale. It has been a lovely long trip away - into the deep, rich spring of the French countryside and the more slowly unfurling spring of Lancashire and Cheshire. 2024 Etape Loch Ness Sportive, a great event as usual. The weather was a lot better than the last couple of years, very cold when we set off but improved as the morning came in. No records broken for me, but I was reasonably happy with my ride feeling good all the way round. I hadn't had a good start to my cycling year, so my preparation wasn't where I'd have liked. I still managed to finish in the top half of the entrants. Not too bad for a man a few weeks off his 69th birthday. Fantastic day up Stuchd and Lochain today. Perfect weather with a few misty clouds early morning before blue skies appeared and hardly a breath of wind. A short steep ascent up the hill from the path along the side of the dam. Once up onto the shoulder of the hill it’s a fantastic walk all the way along the ridge of the mountain before another short ascent to the summit. Great views of the Lochain and corrie along the way. Table top views on a clear day taking in the vast expanse of Rannoch Moor, Glencoe, Bridge of Orchy, Lawers Range and the beginning of the Cairngorm mountains. #munro #munros #munrobagging #scotland #beautifulscotland

Garden updates from last week Found a few reasonably warm hours to work in the garden so I replanted the baby radishes that we grew from seed, sawn the carrot, parsnip, pea, lettuce and spinach 😁 Also managed and repotted some flowers which are already brightening our garden so much more. St Ninians Opencast Mine In 2009 a plan was devised to turn the old opencast mine into a landscaped art project. The project was headed up by famous landscape designer Charles Jencks - who is best known for designing Carwick Multiverse. The ambitious project was to include four colossal earth mounds to represent the four continents Scots had travelled and settled. Back to some hill walking and landscape photography this weekend in the wilderness up and behind Kinlochleven near Glencoe. There’s a beautiful small loch (lochan) at @ 700m called Coire an Lochain between the two munro mountains which overlook Loch Eilde Mor. Always peaceful going back to nature and I love the John Muir quote which I like to keep in mind: “Climb the mountains and get their good tidings.
