This past Monday, I had the opportunity to speak about my platform, Empowering Women through Identity, with more than 300 women in the room. With this platform my upmost desire is to call women up and help them to walk in their full potential of who they were created to be. I am forever grateful to the doctors and staff at Vanderbilt University Medical Center @vumc_cancer, especially Eric’s doctor, Dr. Kristen Ciombor. Because of their efforts, my brother was able to continue doing the things he loved while fighting stage IV Colorectal Cancer (CRC). 💙 I am very thankful to Dr. Cathy Eng and her team for the opportunity to speak during her presentation on “The Enigma of Early Onset CRC” as part of VUMC Medicine Grand Rounds. The rate of CRC in young adults (20-45) is increasing. Eric’s symptoms were minor, but masked a much bigger problem. Day 11 of our social media challenge: Post a photo of your pageant accessories & share how you styled them We all know how important interviews are, right? (I’m crazy about a cute and classy jumpsuit for interview looks). Interviewing in the COVID era was so different, because our pageant system, like many, worked diligently to protect everyone and required masks in enclosed areas. My exposure to patients as a student doctor also prompted additional protections for everyone. Before I knew transparent masks were a thing 😅, I paired my Miss Classy pink embellished jumpsuit with Badgley Mischka’s (@badgleymischka ) Cher pump in hot pink, a matching pink embellished face mask, and my signature way of bringing your authentic self to an interview —wearing something that represents who you are (my stethoscope earrings & Black Lives Matter health lapel pin). While dressing to impress exists within pageantry and accessories can make the difference in a look, it’s important to note and ensure that the apparel doesn’t make the queen. Today started off kind of rough… I missed our flight because of the chaotic parking and will be arriving to DC later than I expected! However, I am grateful that I made it to ATL safely this morning at 2:30am and still woke up at 7:45am!!! I am officially 1 WEEK away for PAGEANT DAY!!!!! I have been working very hard to prepare for this day and I am proud of myself regardless!!! I have been blessed with multiple opportunities serve my community in some way EVERY month during my reign!!! I am grateful for the platform that allowed me to reach a broader audience to push my platform of Autism awareness, acceptance, and inclusion. I walked into my reign as a black educated single mother who has made it her life’s mission to fight for the rights of her daughter and other children/families to be treated with respect and dignity while breaking down the barriers society put up around her because of her Autism.
