You Make Me Want To Make Every Day Easier For You✨ 📚 Thicker Than Blood by @_authortacarra This friends-to-lovers story totally surprised me in the best way. Dre wasted no time letting Indiya know he wanted forever – talk about love after lockup on steroids. Montrell’s constant whining grated on me a bit, even for a “grown man. Full disclosure: I’m not usually a huge fan of the friends-to-lovers trope. But the chemistry between Dre and Indiya was undeniable. They had me rooting for them from page one. Tasia’s ending... well, let’s just say you reap what you sow. Sometimes playing petty games backfires spectacularly. #blackgirlsread #blackauthorsmatter #bookcommunity #romance #Bookstagram #bookreview #booklover

★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ • • y’all need to read this book! i don’t want to say much as to avoid giving anything away but here’s the gist of the book: Mira (black; race is important in this book) returns to her hometown for her white childhood friend’s plantation wedding. all we know is that something happened here back when she was a child and she lost touch with her best friends Celine and Jesse afterwards. one can assume something liked going to go down when she returns to to the plantation turned resort that’s covering up the racist history. *summary on the back of the book is on the last slide! the only thing i wasn’t the biggest fan of in this book was the time jumps, they got a little confusing so just be aware that the book does go back and forth between past and present. ⚠️ CHECK CONTENT/TRIGGER WARNINGS BEFORE DIVING IN!! • • #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookreview #bookreviewer #booktok #bookstagirlie #bookstagramgirlie #lovebooks #bookrecs #bookrecommendations #blackbookstagrammer #blackgirlsread #moodreader #bigmoodreader #bookishbabe #blackbookworm #blackbookworms #blackandbookish #horror #horrorbooks #horrorbookstagram #blackhorror #blackhorrorbooks #latanyamcqueen #whenthereckoningcomes

Not my Mother by Theo Baxter ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book was gripping. From the first page, the action started, and it kept up until the end. There was a predictable twist, but that did not take away from the story at all. There were unexpected twists throughout the book, and at times, I wasn’t sure what or who to believe. The drama was intense, and the suspense building was palpable in this book. I loved Carly and Jake’s relationship. It was endearing to see how much they cared for each other. Watching their relationship develop was the highlight of this book for me. This could definitely be turned into a movie script! Thank you @netgalley , @booksprout and @inkubatorbooks for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. #readersofinstagram #bookshelf #bookworld #instaread #bookoftheday #booklife #booklover #booklovers #bookstagram #bookish #blackgirlsread #bookishgirl #booksofinstagram #readergirl #readerlife #readersofinstagram #bookloversofinstagram #read #reading #blackgirlsread #blackgirlsreadtoo #blackwomenreadtoo #bookrecommendations #bookstoread #arcreader #arcreaders #advancedreadercopy #advancedreaderscopy

🔔🔔🔔🔔 Pages: 186 • I used to knock these books down in less than a week during my PhD program, but this I read slowly (took the whole month), because I was looking for depth and not breadth. I work in the artificial intelligence sector now, & though I don’t build algorithms - I am surrounded people who do. We actually dabble a lot in AI search & the organization of big data, so reading “Safiya Umoja Noble’s Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism” felt like a mini crash course. First, the book is extremely accessible & doesn’t require a CS degree to understand. Second, she weaves throughout the book the importance of targeted public policy for AI & the need for large companies to intentionally intersect with library/information studies & critical ethnic+gender studies. How we receive, produce, and trust (mis)information from private corporations pretending to be public goods is the question of the present & future. Noble writes a well structured book that argues for the urgent implementation of her well thought out solutions. I only took off a bell because the actual research that leads to the theory in the book just felt lackluster & not all that rigorous? Maybe a clear cut methods section would have assuaged that issue or maybe this should have just been a practical theory book? All in all though, I definitely would recommend (& I’m going to see how I can convince my employer to make this as mandatory of reading as possible) - not just for folks in AI, but for everyone. 4 bells out of 5. • Read: April 2024 • This was such a slow reading month for me. Non-fiction books usually take me longer to finish, but also, I just really struggled with motivation. I meant to read 3 books this month, & it’s looking like it’ll only be 2. Which is fine. Sometimes we meet our goals, sometimes we don’t. The world keeps spinning. • #books #bookstagram #booklover #booknerd #bookaddict #academia #bookworm #readwithme #blackgirlsread #reading #blackbookstagram #blackauthorsmatter #mybookshelf #pageturner #bookclub #bookclubofinstagram #bookblogger #bookcommunity #bibliophile #safiyaumojanoble #algorithmsofoppression #algorithms #searchengines #racism

This book was absolutely horrifying in the best way. I read it in one sitting and when I was done, I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. Was I deeply disturbed when finished? Yes. Was I questioning humanity? Also, yes. Did I want to make an appointment to get checked out because, girl why did you enjoy this?? 1,000% yes. ✨ Also, don’t eat while reading this… ✨ TW: all of them. 🙂 (but for real, check them!) + extra warning for those sensitive to SA and animal abuse. ✨ Have you read this? As a kid, Babysitter’s Club and Goosebumps made me an early book lover, Joan Lowery Nixon and Harry Potter kept it going in my teen years, and my love of fantasy and mystery has continued into adulthood. i loved writing this book review, but 🩰🩰🩰🩰 it was difficult. mainly because i — as you know — cannot stand it when #blackwomen do not receive the credit we are due. at the time it is due. losing whole toenails. pirouetting with such speed that a ballerina could “feel the actual physics of it all.” a fairy-tale first date during a stint in Paris, riding the Ferris wheel at Jardin des Tuileries. details. the DETAILS of Black women’s lives matter as much as if not more than our accomplishments and firsts. and precisely because there’s so much meaning and humanity in our minutiae, it has been methodically clipped from the stories of our lives. “The moral of this important and tear-stained book is actually a reminder: Bare oneself, fly into the grandest of jetés and live free.” 🔆🔆🔆 it’s lovely to be back in @nytbooks after many years. gift link at my stories. waving to you from #🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭 #blackballerina #blackballerinas #danyelsmith #blackgirlsread #balletcore #blackballetchoreographers #classicaldance #moderndance

review: another 5 star read for me. i really enjoyed the enemies to lovers storyline between jules and josh. did jules piss me off towards end by not communicating the issue that was going on with her to josh instead of doing the most idiotic thing? ✨ yes ✨ have I forgave her? ✨barely 😂 lol!! regardless, i loved the banter between them two, their ambition, their drive, i loved it all. the story did not feel rushed and felt like it went at a perfect pace. this story was very well written and i am definitely pleased in the direction this story took. spice levels are very high so be aware of that bothers you! ☺️ xoxo, #bookstagram #blackgirlsread #booktube #booktok #momswhoread #bookish #bookworm #romancereaders #romancebookstagram #booklover #blacktiktok #bookclub #bookhaul

✨BOOK REVIEW✨ Funny Story by Emily Henry ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “…it was so precious and perfect and I loved every minute of it.” -Text I sent my friend immediately after reading the last page. That pretty much sums it up honestly. This was such a feel good book, even during the sadder parts. I love love love books that show the FMC’s development from going through some type of trauma, showing their inner turmoils, and showing the process of them coming out the other side. I especially love it when during the process they realize that don’t need a man to save them and fix their problems, that they are more than capable of doing it on their in. (I’ll still eat up the damsel in distress trope any day though, don’t get it twisted). I absolutely flew through this book and never wanted to put it down! It gave me all the warm and fuzzy, feet kicking while squealing moments that I have been craving from a book lately. If you’re a fan of Emily Henry, this book does not disappoint! 🏷️: #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksta #bookcommunity #blackbookcommunity #blackbookstagram #blackgirlsread #emilyhenry #funnystory #happyplace #beachread #peoplewemeetonvacation #booklovers #romancereader #romancebooks #romancebookrecs #cartooncoverromance

I had the best time in Ireland earlier this month! Before my trip, I didn't know that Ireland was known as the "Land of Saints and Scholars". It is also the home of one of the oldest public libraries in Europe, the Marsh Library! Marsh's Library was founded in the early eighteenth century by Archbishop Narcissus Marsh. Although there were earlier libraries, they were either in the university or in churches. This Library was intended to give anyone who was able to read a place to study. The library still has the books donated throughout the centuries AND the table James Joyce (and possibly Bram Stoker) studied at. I came here with my favorite librarian (my hubby) and we took a photo seated at the original table and chairs. There were tons of cool moments on our trip, but this was definitely one of my favorites. Ireland is full of joy ,music, perseverance, and an amazing literary tradition. Who is your favorite Irish writer? 🎸 ᙖOOK ᖇᙓᐯIᙓᙎ 🥁 Girls with Bad Reputations by Xio Axelrod Pub Date: 2.6.24 Fame can bring more than popularity and with the press now hot on their heels nobody’s past is safe. It’s the 2nd book in the Lilly’s series which can be read as a standalone because this one focuses more on Kayla and her new love interest Ty. Things were simple when the Lillys were playing local gigs at dive bars, but now they’re on their first official tour and all Kayla can see are warning signs. Desperate to escape the worry churning inside her, Kayla finds solace in quiet tour bus driver Ty Baldwin…and discovers in him a kindred spirit like no one she’s ever met before. This was a cute bubbly romance kind of slow at times but having the audiobook really kept me engaged. I really enjoyed the diverse cast of characters throughout the book. But what really got me was Kayla and Ty’s insta-love connection. Over the course of the tour they gradually grew closer. Realizing they have so much in common this attraction eventually turned into more which I expected was going to happen. Also knew Kayla’s mom would have an issue with them dating. I liked that we were given some backstory on the main characters allowing the author to touch on other themes aside from their romance. Kayla dealt with some grief after losing her brother, was a college dropout, living double lives, not to mention she had to deal with a toxic mother who only cared about her reputation. Ty on the other hand had problems of his own. False accusations nearly ruined his life, he’s taking care of his grandfather, and now has to deal with his past possibly being exposed. This wasn’t an all out fav after reading but still enjoyable. I came for the romance but stayed for the drama. If you liked the first book in this series you’ll adore this one too. Special thanks to @sourcebookscasa for my gifted copy & @librofm for my ALC‼️ Rating: 3.75/5⭐️

I hate Hilo I wish him nothing but the worst... that aside I did like it I just really despise one of the main characters... ✨Cover Reveal - A Month of Sundays ✨⁣ ⁣ ✨ Release Date announcement coming soon⁣ ⁣ Quiet artist Imani Wright finally has everything she’s prayed for, including a restart at life and an art career on the rise. As a part-time assistant to a celebrity seamstress, she’s met her fair share of entertaining figures as well, one of them being tennis legend DeAndre Harrison. They first met at a mutual acquaintence’s wedding more than four years ago, building an instant visceral connection that even Imani didn’t predict. ⁣ ⁣ The two have remained mutual acquaintances since then, something that DeAndre reluctantly accepts. Jonah’s Gourd Vine By: Zora Neale Hurston Publish Date: 1934 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This debut novel by Zora follows into the life of Jonah, a man who travel from Alabama to Eatonville, his family, and his life as a preacher. Mr. John ‘Buddy’ Pearson, youse a wicked ol’ man. Lucy was too good for him and this just proved me right. Men can be so deceitful. Do things to their partners but will kill you if you do the same. But I enjoyed his karma more than I should’ve. You do wrong unto others, don’t expect things to be smooth for you afterwards. But I noticed a pattern in the men Zora write. They are usually abusive, cheaters, hardworking men who own mules, preach, and love women. Being that Zora’s stories were based on the life she lived in Eatonville, I wonder how much of it was real. Either way, another good book per usual.

It’s Always You 💚✨ If you’re looking for a book that leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy from start to finish, then look no further than “The Perfection of a Moment” by @authorkimberlybrown This story wasn’t an emotional rollercoaster, but it totally held my attention. Ximena and Hiram are such a cute couple, and I loved how they weaved their different cultures into their relationship. Plus, Ximena being a dog mom to the adorable Homer? Major heart-eye emojis for that. Homer totally felt like another character, adding an extra layer of love to the story. #blackgirlsread #blackauthorsmatter #bookcommunity #romance #bookstagram #booksbyblackauthors #booklover #contemporaryromance #romancebooks

♡ arc review ♡ book: Courage to Love Again author: Kimberly Brown rating: ★★★★.5 thank you to NetGalley and Black Odyssey Media for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review 🩷 • • y’all I really enjoyed this book. it definitely had its sad moments but there was so much love, kindness, and encouragement present as well. Pascha’s family and her found family are really some great people. the way they loved on her, the patience they had with her, and the grace given to her…wow. such a blessing. Callum is a GOOD. MAN. I loved him pretty early on in the book lol. he was just so real. the way he loved and cared for his family, friends, and Pascha was amazing man. he is definitely a book husband, not a boyfriend 🤣 Avyn, Tia, and Blake were such good friends to Pascha. Avyn is my girl especially though. she really took care of Pascha even when she wanted and tried to refuse it. like no girl, you’re not doing this by yourself. she was so real. and yay for her getting it together with ole dude 🤭 there’s so much I could say about this book fr but I don’t wanna spoil it lol. I would recommend this book but please check tw/cw 🤍 • • congratulations on your first traditionally published novel @authorkimberlybrown 🫶🏽

I finished An American Marriage by Tayari Jones. It was beautifully written. This book is so realistic about racism, unfairness of the justice system and how it affects a marriage. Thank you @readwithayle for the recommendation I love it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars. I highly recommend this book. #bookstagram #blackgirlsread #bookworm #booknerd #anamericanmarriage #tayarijones

Title: Hunting You by @shadeowensauthor Genre: Domestic Thriller ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ After enjoying Beneath These Walls by Shade Owens so much, I was excited to read this one, and it delivered just as I was hoping it would. While touching on a very sensitive topic, Owen’s handled it delicately. She did a great job showing us how the mindset of the abused works and their thought process with everything from making basic decisions to more complex decisions. Parts of this book were hard to read due to the descriptive storytelling surrounding DV, but that contributes to the fact that Owens is great at her craft. I was kept guessing up until the very end. There were well-timed twists that I did not predict. The plot was developed and delivered in a way that ran you through a list of varying emotions. Not only was I captivated in the story, but I was invested in the characters. The fact that our main character and those closest to her were all so POWERFUL by the end of this book was not lost on me. There was a very strong, encouraging message in this book. If DV isn’t a trigger warning for you, I definitely recommend this one. Thank you @netgalley and @redravenpublishing for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. #readersofinstagram #bookshelf #bookworld #instaread #bookoftheday #booklife #booklover #booklovers #bookstagram #bookish #blackgirlsread #bookishgirl #booksofinstagram #readergirl #readerlife #readersofinstagram #bookloversofinstagram #read #reading #blackgirlsread #blackgirlsreadtoo #blackwomenreadtoo #bookrecommendations #bookstoread #arcreader #arcreaders #advancedreadercopy #advancedreaderscopy

Flores Forbes started with the BPP so early that he needed parental consent in order to do so and ended up being appointed the head of security for the party about 4 years after joining. Everything for him happened quickly and clearly, at a very young age. He was one of the few members of the Party that was around for a lot of the major changes. He was there when many of the major players left. He was there when Elaine became the first chairwoman and when she left. && he was there to witness, first hand, the downward spiral that would in turn cause Dr. Huey P. Newton’s demise. What stood out to me most about this particular memoir are the vivid illustrations of the various emotions and trials Forbes went through after he was no longer a member of the BPP. This is actually the first (and I think the only) Black Panther memoir that I’ve read that gives readers that raw insight on the mental strain that comes when a person’s revolutionary fight has ceased and they are trying to reacclimate themselves into life as a civilian. Forbes went through all the stages of grief, regret, depression, and every other negative emotion imaginable while finding his way, but he eventually found contentment and success is his newfound life. All in all, I’d say he mostly did what he was supposed to do. . .all things considered. Lastly, this is a book that I def recommend to those interested in the BPP as much as I am, but I will caution that it is one of those books that’ll really make you see the “heroes” as truly flawed human beings. If you aren’t ready to indulge in a work that puts the nasty side of the BPP on front street then stick to the surface level books about the BPP and keep your ignorance intact. But I will say this. . .after reading this book, I NEED an Ericka Huggins memoir to release like tomorrow. Slides — Quotes 🤎

5⭐️ 3.5🌶️ for @authorcharityshane As a Vegas bride, I need to hear every story that led to the decision to get married in Vegas, no matter who it is. Imagine you have 180 days to get married and you have 180 days to fulfill a bucket list. So, you decide to crash a wedding, you catch the bouquet, and next thing you know, you’re on a private jet headed to Vegas with the brother of the groom. 😯 Rhian Barnes is a social worker and a walking thesaurus with a thing for lists. Her cousin and best friend Brie often brings out the wild side of her and for the past two years, Rhian has set a goal to live her life with purpose. Gideon Powers is the oldest son of a prominent family, popular in the car business and streets… No one gives him a chase like Rhian. What she says goes and what she says is final…until it’s not. That man moved heaven and earth for her. Not going to lie, I was getting upset with my girl for a while. Holding onto secrets is never a good idea. Rhian and Gideon were definitely giving “Sunglasses and Advil. Last night was mad real,” vibes. Shout out to the old Kanye. It did not take me long to fall in love with this couple. They were magnetic! Gideon gives BDE and I never got tired of hearing him refer to Rhian as “my wife.” Tragedy falls at their feet in many ways throughout their very quick beginning, but love, love, love, is always the answer. ✨Marriage of Convenience ✨He Falls First ✨Secrets ✨Close Knit Family 🧡What I Loved: Brie and Amon • The Flashback to Vegas • Their parents • Tangie + Tangerine Shoutout to my sis @pages.of.tavii for the buddy read. 🫶🏾🥰Charity is a new to me author - but not anymore. I will be deep diving into her catalog!
