AMONG GIANTS🌳 - 🇺🇸 SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK 🇺🇸 My trip through California, the Golden State of the USA, took me next to Sequoia NP. The giant Sequoias are the largest trees in the world. 🌳 The largest known living tree on earth is the General Sherman Tree. At its base, the tree has a circumference of over 31 m, and towers nearly 84 m into the sky - and is still growing! 🌎 You might have thought that its size would make him the oldest tree in the world, but it's not. Of course, at around 2200 years old (no one knows the exact age), he is no young buck either. Giant Sequoias, however, are only the second oldest trees in existence. That honor goes to the ancient bristle one pines found in the White Mountains. 🐜When I walked into these groves of tall and very large trees, where the leaves touches the sky, I felt like I'm an ant in size. If I wanted to see the tops of the trees, I had to crane my neck. 😍 Nevertheless, I was very impressed by Sequoia National Park. I recently learned that the largest, tallest, and oldest trees in the world are all located in California. The oldest tree is in Inyo National Forest but its exact location is kept a secret. The tallest tree is located in Redwood National Park but it’s closed off and technically illegal to be within a mile of it. The largest tree (by volume) is located in Sequoia National Park and can be easily accessed hiking around The Giant Forest. It was breathtaking to see such a massive tree. I felt an intense energy building inside me as I got closer to it. I’m not sure if it was coming from the crowd of people in awe surrounding the tree or if it was from being in the presence of something truly amazing and unique in this world. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these magnificent trees were hunted and chopped down at an alarming rate. The California Gold Rush brought forth a frenzy of logging, threatening the existence of these natural wonders. I am beat! Three hours of non-stop weed whacking for brush clearance today. My arms are useless now, but it has to get done because we live in California, the tinder box. I at least accomplished getting a fire break completed around our well house, studios & garden. A walk around our property shows there is plenty more brush clearance to do. Another day. Yesterday, I transplanted an old growth lilac bush that was situated under our front living room window (2nd photo where the wire is hanging down on the left)(I hate 😤😩😖😞looking at the exterior of our house because it looks so dilapidated and we need to remove those satellite dishes on the roof!) since it never blooms there from not getting enough sun. So I broke the bush up into 3 sections and planted 2 down by our studios, which will add to the sweet scents of the butterfly bushes already there under my studio windows. And the 3rd section I planted in our driveway island next to the cacti. This way when I come up our driveway I will feel a little of my New York state home with the recently planted forsythia and now the added lilac! Here though in Central California we have that magical combination with cacti. Hopefully I obtained enough of the root ball and they will take and spring forth with blooms next year. They survived the night but of course today the winds are devastating out there so fingers crossed 🤞. Oh, then there's the cool kicks I bought for Orlando probably 5-6 years ago. This is the first time he has ever worn them (made from recycled plastics). I got them for him for when he was working his old job in Los Angeles when he stood on his feet all day so he would be comfortable. As I drove around one of the many curves on Ten Mile Road near Hume Lake I came across these incredible godrays in front of me. Naturally, I stopped in the middle of the road because there was no place to pull off to the side of the road and park. I got out with my camera, stood on the yellow line and fired off this shot to capture those rays. I also got a little patch of snow up by the curve too.
