Some spectacular trees from Day 5 in the redwoods! We visited Lady Bird Johnson Trail in Trinidad and found this tree carved out by lightning and its fire! It’s still alive though! It's been a draining couple of weeks, physically ( bleeding COVID 😷, mentally and emotionally ). This photo, captured amongst the awe inspiring Redwoods in Beech Forest (Victoria) in 2017 makes me happy but is completely unrelated to my upcoming ramblings.... . . Yesterday I attended the national rally against violence, organised by the incredible team ( all VOLUNTEERS I believe ) at @whatwereyouwearing_ . I don't say this for any other reason than it's a starting point to my thoughts and feelings I am trying to express in a somewhat cohesive and coherent manner. Honestly, right now, my overwhelming feeling is one of fury. I'm tired of opening news articles and seeing the whole not all men bs ( check out @jillstark__ post to get an insight into some of the responses she received on LinkedIn FFS ). Maybe I am over simplifying this issue but from where I sit, it goes a little something like this... SOME men ( and some women to be fair ) jump on to any and every story relating to violence, especially DV, SA and basically gender based violence and shout not all men. Surely that strongly suggests that you are distancing yourself from these men, you know, the ones that are the perpetrators of these horrific acts? The old put your hands up, walk backwards like hey, I am not part of this, don't look at me. Instead of backing away and heading to the opposite side and supporting women in this fight, you seem to end up somewhere in the middle, where you have declared yourself as one of those "not all men" people but still will try and bring women down by calling us hysterical,emotional, telling us not to use throwaway lines that are divisive and denigrate men. Like are you kidding me? You can't have it both ways. PICK A SIDE. You are either on the side of wanting to end mens violence or you're not. PICK A SIDE. A nice high elevation redwood. This is a pretty well visited tree and I'm sure some people will recognize it. It's situated on a microflat high on a ridge that gets lots of fog.
