Some more impressions from my snowy mountain hike. I truly felt like I was in a movie, transported back in time. I already miss being there. Hopefully, I'll eventually achieve my goal of embarking on multi-day hikes with nothing but Stone Age gear and skills. It's always good to have ambitious goals! 🦬🦊🐺🌲 Pictures with my full gear I will post separately bc I had of course my backpack and stuff with me. The overall weight of my backback, bow, survival stuff, furs including my clothes like the reindeer coat, pants, undergarmet and shoes made me realize that this requires much more strength than with modern equipment. I more and more respect what our ancestors had to do for their daily living. 🌲 #ancient #reenacting #reenactors #neolithic #stoneage #primitiveskills #prehistoricarchaeology #neolithic #mesolithic #experimentalarchaeology #ötzi #nature #bushcraft #prehistory #pagan #mountains #winterhike #nature #primitivetechnology #vorarlberg #flintknapping #flintstone #primitiveclothing #ancientcraft #ancientclothing #prehistoricclothes #mesolithic #stoneageskills #archology #archerylife #reenactorslife #ancientwisdom #ancientclothing #naturelovers

Today, I took advantage of the remaining snowy weather to put my reindeer coat to the test. It kept me incredibly warm and dry throughout. ❄️ However, my left shoe unfortunately became wet after some time. Clearly, there's room for improvement there. Additionally, I tried out my new axe. I managed to make some nice pictures in this stunning snowy mountain scenery. I hope you will enjoy watching it. These images are just a small sneak peak. I admit I am totally in love with mountains. 🦬🦬🌲🌲🌲 #ancient #reenacting #reenactors #neolithic #stoneage #primitiveskills #prehistoricarchaeology #neolithic #mesolithic #experimentalarchaeology #ötzi #nature #bushcraft #prehistory #pagan #mountains #winterhike #nature #primitivetechnology #vorarlberg #flintknapping #flintstone #primitiveclothing #ancientcraft #ancientclothing #prehistoricclothes #mesolithic #stoneageskills #archology #archerylife #reenactorslife #ancientwisdom #ancientclothing #naturelovers

It took me *only* 6 years to finish this rawhide pouch 😅 It all started back in 2018 during a 3-month long immersion with Lynx Vilden. The plan was to make a rawhide toolkit, and so we all cut a rectangular piece out of a large moose hide for that project. During the immersion, we had always so many things going on that I ended up deciding I'd finish this project later. Then back home, I started working on it, but run into some difficulties and ended up postponing it again. Fast forward a few years, and the preparation for the Stone Age immersion in Portugal arrives, which quickly makes me realise I need more containers to carry food. I look at my half made rawhide pouch, sitting sadly at one corner, and I feel the inspiration (and necessity) hitting me: "yup, this is your moment". And now, my friends, I can finally announce that it's finally done! This cutie helped me carry some sweet berry leather to share with my fellow stone age friends, and I couldn't be happier with the final result 🌿🌸✨️ Ingredients! :: Moose rawhide for the body + Bark tanned reindeer for the side pannels + Fat tanned goatskin to sew the pouch + antler button :: 🫎🦌🐐 . . . . . #rawhide #rawhidetoolkit #rawhidepouch #leatherpouch #leathertoolkit #homemadeleather #ancestralskills #prehistoricskills #traditionallivingskills #wildanacrow #mooserawhide #hidetanning #stoneageskills #bushcraft #handmadewithlove #handmade #craftersgonnacraft

Wilderness living requires a deep connection with nature and a respect for its rhythms. It demands self-reliance and ingenuity, as well as a spirit of adventure and curiosity. To thrive in the wild, one must be adaptable, resourceful, and attuned to the subtle cues of the environment. Whether foraging for food, building shelter, or navigating through rugged terrain, one must draw upon a combination of traditional knowledge and modern skills. Wilderness living offers a profound sense of freedom and a chance to rediscover what it means to be truly alive. It is a lifestyle that challenges and rewards in equal measure, providing a unique opportunity to explore the beauty and simplicity of the natural world. #stoneageskills #stonage #wildernessliving #wildliving #resourceful #diy #forestlife

My love language is definitely crafting, learning more skills and share it with who wants to learn. I love working with leather, creating cute bags, make clothing etc. Every day I’m softening some salmon leather for a bigger project (soon I will share about it). At the same time I’m tanning a marten and 2 roe’s. They teach me how to. And I’m so happy that I have some interesting books and some great friends who are always willing to share their experiences. Crafting and skills is honouring our ancestral ways, working together with nature, reciprocal and creating community around it, is so much more than just a hobby. What are the ancestral skills that you work with these days? Care to share? #ancestralskills #earthskills #community #leatherwork #pouches #ancestral #leather #stoneageskills

This is one of the tools made during Bushcraft lab class. This is a Hoko-style knife that’s easy to make and works great with small stone flakes. A willow branch is split and the flake inserted, then the branch is wrapped with natural fibers to hold the flake in place. The final stage is coating with pitch mixed with cattail fluff. #stoneknife #bushcraft #apprenticeofthewild #wisdomkeepersschool #forestschool #stoneageskills

Father Christmas must’ve dropped this on his rounds on Christmas Eve - it’s clearly meant for me 😜! It’s a neat little flint scraper, found on a short, sunny walk this Boxing Day morning 😁 Scrapers are modified flint blades or flakes with retouch along one or more edges, and are thought to have been used for hideworking and woodworking. This one appears to have a hollowed working edge (on the left), as well as the classic horseshoe working edge, so probably dual purpose whittling and scraping. They are fairly ubiquitous throughout prehistory, meaning they are incredibly difficult to date, though my feeling is that this one probably dates to the Neolithic period, making it around 4,000 - 5,000 years old! #fieldwalking #fieldwalking #fieldwalkingfind #metaldetectinguk #metaldetectingfinds #flinttools #geocaching #stoneagetools #stoneageskills #flintknapper #flintarrowheads #flintarrow #neolithicbritain #neolithic #prehistorickingdom #historicengland #archaeology #timeteam

Sometimes, when using a hand drill kit to light a fire, the notch breaks out. This is a cedar fire board, so it’s especially susceptible to splitting. Rather than carving a new notch, the broken piece is simply tied into place. I’ve done this quite a few times. Watch for the upcoming class “The Art of Fire“ on my website at www.wisdomkeepers.us. #handrillfire #frictionfire #stoneageskills #ancientskills #bushcraft

Happy #fireitupfriday folks! I spun out this coal with the "floating hands" technique. This means rather than making passes down the spindle in the traditional way, I spin my hands in a circular motion while applying heavy downward pressure. While probably not an ancient technique, it is still a very valuable one and a good skill for any primitive firemaker to master. Check out my last post, it's a reel of this coal being made! #bushcraft #survival #frictionfire #handdrill #handdrillfire #primitiveskills #wildernessskills #bushcraftskills #stoneageskills #survivalskills #smokingcoal #desertskills

I found this lovely little Mesolithic blade core yesterday afternoon while taking a short walk around the village where I live. What I love about this piece is that it’s so tactile, and unlike other pieces of debitage (waste material produced during the knapping process) they are diagnostic - we know how old they are, and what they were used for.   This piece dates to the the Mesolithic period, around 8,500 - 5,400 BP, and was used to create small flint blades from which microliths - used as barbs and points in composite arrows  - could be made. In other words the end product (the production of microliths) defined the whole process. So around 8,000 years ago someone else walked across the same spot I did yesterday afternoon, and dropped or discarded this piece. He or she would have been nomadic, travelling from place to place in search of food - this humble flint is a direct link back to that person, a whisper across the ages, an ancient tale waiting to be told – incredible! #fieldwalking #fieldwalking #fieldwalkingfind #metaldetectinguk #metaldetectingfinds #flinttools #geocaching #stoneagetools #stoneageskills #flintknapper #flintarrowheads #flintarrow #neolithicbritain #neolithic #prehistorickingdom #historicengland #archaeology #timeteam #flintarrowheads #mesolithic #microlith #mesolithicblades

Finished making my chest crutch. Now on to make the jig for holding the cores. I still haven't decided how I'm going to shape the working end of the tool, yet. The brace is sycamore. The shaft is plum, wrapped in sinew. The piece of antler is axis deer. I really want to make a macuahuitl someday. My wood skills are there, but my knapping ones aren't. Can't learn without having the toolset though.. I'd like to thank Jim Winn for the inspiration. I've been rewatching his videos lately and have been mesmerized once again by his macuahuitl and blade core series. I was fortunate enough to get a box of rocks from him before he retired as well. My fascination with knapping started when he popped into my YouTube feed many years ago. I appreciate you Jim. You changed my life. Made a big horizontal punch today. I've been eyeballing this chunk of antler for about 2 years now. It's really heavy and dense. The dog did most of the shaping. I've done 3 full knapping sessions, focusing on learning these things better. It's easier on my joints and I'm really starting to see the appeal. I'm curious to see what this one can do. #knapping #knappingtools #horizontalpunch #stoneageskills #stoneage #knapping #flintknapping #chippingrocks #antlers #antler

Stone Age Build. Permanent ember catch! I made this out of an old and rotting abalone shell that my father or I pulled from the rocks many years ago. Using what I had available locally, I fabricated this beautiful ember catch using nothing but stone tools. Hammerstones, sandstone slabs, small chips of what I think is a soft shale and charcoal for the finish. . I made my first compound hand drill spindle today. The host spindle is a piece of mullein, artificial sinew wrap, and a seep willow plug. I carved a 2" taper on the plug and jammed it into the pith of the mullein. The pith helped hold it tightly in place and the artificial sinew kept the mullein from splintering. The fireboard was willow. Now that I figured this out I'll be playing with compound spindles a lot more. #handdrill #fire #bushcraft #survival #frictionfire #stoneageskills #ancestralskills

We were at the Bushcraft Show over the weekend, we gave loads of great primitive skills workshops for kids and adults too including braintan leather pouches, ancient Neanderthal spears, hafted flint knives and simple handaxes..we’ve been working hard on our skin tipi, making it bigger and better and it paid off nicely! #bushcraftshow #primitiveskills #bushcraft #braintanbuckskin #flinttools #spears #stoneageskills
