The story of things - As we are getting ready to move, we’re finding ourselves revisiting the tale that each object tells. This little wood stove was the first thing Ryan and I ever bought as a couple. We found it on Craigslist and went to pick it up in Angelfire, NM, then brought it back to the cozy Adobe home we were living in up in Questa - our first home together where we first fell madly in love and had time to take naps, where I first became a mother then lost twins our twins after 3 months in utero, where we built our first community around spirit and wellness, where we’d pray in sweat lodge each week, where our sweet and wild Faelan left this world and it took 6 men to carry his wolf body to be buried on the mountain, where we first kept bees together and they were mauled by a bear, where we moved them up on to our roof, carrying them through the house with veils on, where we decided to pack up and move back East after a dream of my grandmother asking me back to VT and feeling that came over me at Moonlodge one night. The skies wept for us in a million shooting stars that night we left. For the dreams we birthed, for the dreams that didn’t come to be, for what we were leaving behind and entering into. Every animal on the Mesa threw themselves at our car and truck within the first hour of our drive away/towards. We grazed the elk (he lived!) but there were the coyotes, wild horses, pack of dogs, endless elk, rabbits - they all ran with us and at us until we took the night off from driving. The journey here was wild and arriving in VT was no soft landing. But that’s a story for the next chapter. I love that this wood stove has been a symbol of our love’s journey. Through transition and movement, this hearth has anchored us home. It’s warmth has been the center of our growing family’s cozy and sustained seasonal rhythms. It’s become an old friend, one we’ll bring along and know that the next time we light a fire in her we’ll know we’ve found our new home. .
