I won’t lie there were times I never thought I would make it this far with all of my surgeries, life in general and of course my pride and joy: the beard lol fun fact about the beard that I get asked a lot about is when did it start really growing for me. Riporto su Instagram un trend che ho visto nell’altro social, la sfida dei 10 anni. Forse era già passato per i vostri feed, ma io ormai sono una “boomer” e quindi arrivo un pochino dopo. Per ripercorrerlo ho scelto questa foto, che non ricordo esattamente quando sia stata scattata, se 2013, 14 o 15, ma su per giù il tempo passato è quello. E poi, nell’altro scatto, ci sono io, ora. Che tra qualche mese ne farò 32. Quando ero piccolina, idealizzavo i 30 anni. Mi vedevo più realizzata, più bella, più sicura. Tante cose, più di quello che ero in quel momento. Forse perché nella testa tendiamo a rimandare tutte le nostre speranze future. La realtà dei fatti è sicuramente diversa perché non sono esattamente quella che avrei pensato di diventare. Ma in questi 3650 giorni che mi distanziano dalla mia versione ventiduenne, con me sono evolute le mie consapevolezze, i miei sogni, i miei atteggiamenti, e anche se dall’aspetto fisico non si nota più di tanto, di queste evoluzioni ne sento il peso e il valore, per essere diventata ciò che sono oggi. Mi guardo indietro e vorrei dare a quella ragazzina un abbraccio e rassicurarla che tante di quelle sfide che trovava interminabili, in realtà sono finite. E che altre ne sono subentrate. E poi vorrei spaventarla e allo stesso tempo farla ridere dicendole che quei sogni che aveva un tempo, in parte li ha realizzati e che ora invece sogna tutt’altro, come un relais in campagna e un allevamento di alpaca e pastori australiani. La me ventenne forse non l’avrebbe mai detto. Eppure questi siamo noi, evolviamo nel tempo che ci è permesso di vivere e con noi cambiano i nostri sogni, se non tutti, molti. Se dovessi arrivare a 42 anni mi ricorderò di questo post e farò un altro resoconto. Mi auguro solo che quel relais sarà aperto e che il mio allevamento sarà bello tanto quello di Piani degli Alpaca. Probabilmente tra 10 anni ci sarà musica che non sarò in grado di comprendere e per il prossimo post sceglierò una canzone di 10 anni prima, così come oggi affianco a questo post un brano del 2014 che mi faceva ballare nella mia cameretta quando fantasticavo sul futuro che avrei costruito. ✨ #tenyearschallenge

🦑 I have been extremely busy after returning back home from the last #abodycalledpaula journey in Benin. I had to take a full day job since my long working grant came to its end, so it’s been challenging to find a free spot to visit the atelier with the new rhythm. So friends, if you haven’t heard from me, there’s a reason - I’m still adapting! But I feel great, the energy is enormous and I’m enjoying all the daily tasks - just wish there were more hours per day! But today, finally, I was able to spend some time with my real work, and to meet these dear screens with the West African souvenirs and gris-gris. Ten years ago today I competed in Miss Philadelphia, a preliminary pageant that takes you to Miss Pennsylvania and then Miss America. I had no coach, no experience, no idea what I was doing. As a college freshman experiencing some profound realities about the acting industry, there was one thing I knew. Pretty girls do pageants. I wanted to be a pretty girl. If I got in the pageant it was undeniable. I would be a pretty girl, thus cementing the fact that I was pretty and my acting career would flourish. Because that’s how it works. Right? Not long into the process I called my mom in tears and told her how everyone else competing was so much more talented, more successful, more beautiful, more then I could ever be. I told her I felt like a hobbit among elves. I had stumbled through a mushroom circle in Philly and was now with the fae. The night of the pageant I didn’t win anything. But I did get back to the hotel and find a trophy on my pillow, specially made by my family. It was a really intense process and by the end of it I was emotionally and physically exhausted. But after I made my dad run through Center City to bring me IHOP at 10pm, I decided it had been a good experience. Ten years is a long time. It’s been a lot of change. Lots of things have happened. I never did another pageant again. But it’s nice to be reminded of how my priorities have changed, how I’ve changed, and how that trophy is still in my bedroom where I can look at it everyday ❤️ And ten years later my next big project is to play a fae (well, technically Aelin is a Demi-fae, but who wants to get technical?)

Una vez definido el tema busqué algunas referencias plásticas que me sirvieron como guía para tratar de desarrollarlo; entre muchas obras de grandes artistas, dividí las que más me aportaron en cuanto a lo #figurativo y a lo #abstracto; esto me permitió mirar aspectos que me interesaron de los dos mundos: Entre los figurativos por el dinamismo inherente de la vanguardia futurista, están: #giacomoballa con su obra: Dinamismo de un perro con correa, #umbertoboccioni con Mano de un violinista, dinamismo de un ciclista, de #kazimirmalevich , el afilador de cuchillos y Ciclista de #nataliagoncharova por mencionar algunos. Otros más contemporáneos exaltando el manejo de imágenes que se trasponen y de varios cuerpos que se entrelazan están : @jenny_saville_art (El rastro de los cuerpos y Chapter) Así como @denis_sarazhin y @veriapriyatno por la posibilidad de composiciones que se pueden realizar con un solo modelo. En cuanto a la representación de lo abstracto, en primera instancia y como uno de los pioneros en intentar representar abstractamente la música, me interesaron las obras de #vasilikandinsky , sobre todo, aquellas en los que me invitan a imaginar composiciones jazzísticas. Las formas, colores y degradados son fuentes de mucha inspiración. March 2, 2015 vs. March 2, 2024: my 9-year gym-versary💪🏼🥳 Nine years ago today, I had my last “Day 1” ever. I finally put my foot down and said never again am I going to give into the busy-ness of life and quit prioritizing my health. How’d I do it? I got an online fitness coach, I engaged in his online coaching client community, and I adhered to my macros and workout program every single day for 90 days. Zero exceptions. Can you make progress with moderation? Absolutely. Can you make more progress with absolute, total, no-exceptions commitment to your goals? 100%. By the time I completed those 90 days, I was in the best shape of my life to-date. I finally felt confident in my body, and that confidence permeated into how I carried myself through life.
