Been feeling like a seesaw lately when it comes to hitting the gym. I remember when I set my initial goal to shed some extra pounds and build strength. I started off strong, hitting the gym regularly. But then, life happened. Work got busier, deadlines always stalked me, and I couldn’t seem to find the motivation I once had. That’s when I realized that motivation can be temporary. It can’t always be there to hold your hand for your 6am workouts. What I found more helpful was the fulfillment of staying disciplined. Here’s are my secrets to staying consistent in the gym: 1. Set Specific Goals: Make your gym visits purposeful. Whether it’s losing weight, gaining muscle, or just feeling more energized, having a clear target keeps you focused. 2. Schedule It In: Treat your gym time like an important meeting. Put it on your calendar, and don’t let anything else take its place. 3. Small Wins Matter: Celebrate every small victory. Progress isn’t always about big leaps; it’s about consistent steps forward. 4. Variety May Be the Key: Spice up your workouts if that helps you. CHEAT DAY OR REFEED DAY? - A refeed day is often confused with a cheat day. - A cheat day is a day where you go off your nutrition plan and eat pretty much whatever kind of food you want to. - A refeed day is a day for purposely overeating a specific macronutrient: carbohydrates. - Eating a lot of carbs literally “refeeds” your body with energy and muscle glycogen. - To keep your body functioning well on a refeed day you should: Maintain your normal protein intake. Double or even triple your normal carb intake (minimum: 200 grams). Reduce your normal fat intake to between 20-25% of your daily caloric intake. Remember, excess fat can lower your leptin levels. - You want to reduce your fat intake, because if you keep eating a lot of fatty foods, your body will convert those calories directly into body fat. - Refeed days help to normalize leptin levels, which can boost your metabolism and decrease appetite/cravings, and they replenish your muscle glycogen stores, allowing you to have more effective workouts. - Plan ahead for your refeed day and stock up on carbs that your body can tolerate. - I personally go for carbs, such as: rice, oat bran, potatoes, sweet potatoes, peas, and legumes. - Reefed days can be scheduled as often as weekly or once a month depending on your goals and current body fat %. - A general rule rule of thumb is, the leaner you are the more frequently you can take refeed days. - If your body fat is 20% or higher, you should start with a refeed day once every 2 weeks; move it to once per week depending on how things go. - If your body fat is closer to 10%, then you can do a refeed day once a week. - What’s your fav thing to eat on a refeed day?

I lost 21lbs in 2 months, without losing any muscle or strength. AND I did it while eating 5 meals per day! FIND HOBBIES TO FALL BACK ON -Here’s something I need to tell you guys. And I feel like it’s urgent. -You can have a love for lifting weights while also enjoying other hobbies. -Such a crazy thing to say, I know… -When people say things like “I can’t stop thinking about the gym” or “all I want to be is at the gym” on their rest days, all I can do is simply cringe 😬 -If you’re training hard enough on the days you do go, it’s likely that you don’t even want to think about lifting weights on the days you aren’t scheduled to lift. -Many that say they think about the gym 24/7 likely don’t train hard enough and/or just go for social reasons 🥱 -Let’s think about how going often can be overkill. It’s probable that your gains could be better if you go less often and have more active rest days. But that topic could be saved for a whole ‘nother post (if you want to hear me deep dive into it you should join my private Facebook group 👀). -“But making it your life is better than not going at all”. I highly agree. Doesn’t mean that it is the most efficient thing you can do, though. -If there aren’t other hobbies in play, it’s likely that you’ll burn out and not want to lift weights anymore. -I don’t want that for you. Lifting should be a lifelong activity that we work hard/discipline ourselves for in the context of an enjoyable life through other avenues. -I, myself, love to lift weights. But I do so 3x/week along with running, volleyball (pictured above), working on my coaching business and some leisure activities with the people that I love. The 6x/week lifting sessions are long gone (and if you like lifting that much, no judgment here, just know you can be more efficient with your time ❤️) in my life. -Make your life a well-rounded one that includes all the things that you enjoy - including leisure and the times where you need discipline. Have you ever said “ I’m eating healthy so I don’t understand why I’m not losing weight?” I know I have said it and I have heard hundreds of women say the same thing. When it comes down to it, the same thing we all have to look at is are we being completely honest with how much we are consuming? TRULY HONEST!!! if you wanna see weight loss, you have to be in a calorie deficit, if anyone tells you otherwise they’re just trying to take their money. Now I am going to say this it is not a lifestyle to be in a calorie deficit 100% of the time as we lose weight, our body composition is going to change and our nutritional intake is going to change. As well as our goals, so it is important to do this in phases. start swiping right and give it a read and let me know if you have any questions. Can I lose fat while building muscle? Yes! 1. Phase 1: If you’re new to strength training, you can build a ton of muscle while losing fat without a massive diet change/food deprivation; 2. Phase 2: If you’re a seasoned lifter (strength train for about a year), things get like tricky here. Meaning, now that you’ve gotten your strength training disciple under the belt (about a year of consistency) your body will be more resistant to fat lost the leaner you are. That’s when caloric restriction will take place, e.g. 500 calories less then the prior year. 3. Protein intake is crucial after phase 2. 1 gram protein per body pound and that’s when both your training and diet need to be adjusted to not only maintain your lean physique but to further build muscle while losing fat. Females, generally can perform higher reps lower weight and recover faster than males. Their training is/should be completely different than that of males, especially in different life stages (puberty, post partum, mid life).
