Wow. Where to even begin. First of all, I am so thankful for people who allow me into such intimate parts of their lives. Having the chance to tell so many different stories through my photography is truly an honor. . I am currently taking a photography class with @nataliegildersleeve where we are digging deeper into who we are as artists. We are all working on different projects and I chose the theme “Women Carry Things.” For me this went much deeper than just physical things we can carry. Women carry so so much that can be hidden under our daily smiles and happy laughs. I wanted to capture that. . I reached out to my beautiful friend Kayla to see if she would be willing to do a session with me to tell a small part of her big story. The weight that she carries emotionally while she navigates infertility. . My goal was to not only capture the hardest parts of her story and to show just how beautiful her soul is, but to also bring awareness to the fertility journey that so many women have faced or are currently facing. . 1 in 5 women struggle with being able to conceive or carry a baby to full term. The chance of you knowing several women in this same boat or experiencing it yourself is heartbreakingly high. . I hope that these photos can help people think twice about the comments they make and take a second to understand how painful a small phrase can be. When a woman’s one desire is to be a mother, comments like “you’re still young,” “Enjoy alone time,” “Kids are expensive,” “why not just adopt?,” “Maybe it’s not meant to be” are NOT HELPFUL. . My other hope for these photos is that any woman in the same boat who sees these will swipe all the way to the end to know that your worth is not based on your ability to make children. . You are worthy, valuable, whole, beautiful, unique, strong and brave. But most of all, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. 💛

More on The Yellow Couch! I have been digging scenes that are not repetitive and stay true to our life. On the first frame, Luca playing classic “don’t let the balloon touch the floor” at the most odd times of the day. Include here right before bedtime, I need to make dinner time, please let’s sit and chill time, my coffee is getting cold time… It’s funny how he finds the quiet gaps to introduce a high energy play. Never fades. I feel like our energy levels are a constant juxtaposition and I wanted to represent that in a photo. Second frame with 14 months old Kaiser being an elephant somewhat puppy and dragging everything he finds with him, including my inner peace with the house setup. Still it’s quite curious why would someone like me get a high energy dog on top of a high energy child. I feel like at times I need tension to be creative. If everything was just nice and flat, there wouldn’t be much to elaborate. So I find myself constantly trying to go back to a quiet center, but having to realize it is the movement that keeps my fire alive.

It is an investment (401K, 403B, insurance, real dental insurance, PTO, tuition assistance/reimbursement, or a laptop in most cases). •Many companies offer continuing education programs as well. •Do what you need to in order to do want you want to. •Get the bag. Why people? Part 2. As I was taking pictures of this girl back in 2009, I realised that photographing human beings goes way beyond capturing their physical appearance. I obviously saw her beauty: her red hair was sparkling in the autumn light. Her blue eyes created a strong contrast with her freckles and hair. She looked like a princess from a fairy tale. But as I was recording what was in front of my eyes, I began forming a thought: “What’s in her mind?” At this stage my focus was on the present moment. What my subjects felt at the time of the photo shoot. Then as I was taking more and more photos of people I got very interested in their stories. I wanted to know who they are, and what shaped them into the person that they’ve become. I started talking to my clients during photo sessions and the essence of my work has become about reflecting their personality. Before my shoots I meet my clients in person, so we have the chance to get to know each other. For me the most important thing is that they feel comfortable around me. It is crucial that they can be themselves. No need to act or behave in a certain way, just to be in their most natural state. This is not possible without trust. Trust is essential in order to open up, and to let their personality shine through. The choice of location is also a key element, in order to have a successful session, as feeling content in a certain space allows people to be relaxed and to act naturally. When I met Dorina for the first time, I asked her, what she wanted to get out of her shoot. She said to me: ‘I wanna be me.’ For her session we chose an alleyway that was covered with graffitis. It was a very special place, just like how she is an extraordinary person. The vibrant colours in the background was creating a great reflection of her bold, unique and creative character. I really liked how we managed to let nature sneak into this urban jungle. The greenery around us formed a great balance with the rugged, urban look. Why people? Well, it was actually quite a bit of a journey to get to the point when my interest turned towards human beings. Due to the nature of my full time job, working as a nanny, I travelled quite frequently in 2008. I was pretty much on the road every other month, as the family who I worked for needed me to help with their kids, when they were on holiday too. I wanted to soak in the whole wide world. I took millions of pictures of the sea and the mountains wherever I went. At this stage my aim was no longer only to record, but to preserve beauty as well. I wanted to capture all things wonderful in a way that would take not only mine, but other people’s breath away. My dream was to end up working for the National Geographic, as I was also in love with capturing animal portraits. It didn’t matter what animal it was. I was photographing birds, seals, dogs, elephants and God knows what. I always say I speak better animal than human. I occasionally took some random photos of the kids, who I looked after, but at this point it did not occurred to me to take portrait photography any further. In 2009 I decided to go to college and to study photography at an academic level. I wanted to get qualified as a photographer. Living in London made it very easy to enter this path as it is flooded with art schools. Meanwhile I purchased my first semi-pro digital SLR, which was a huge step from my tiny point and shoot compact camera. My college years were very eventful and I took my studies very seriously. At each semester we had several projects that we needed to work on. I really loved this because it was forcing me to stretch and bend my boundaries, and I always needed to get out of my comfort zone. Sometimes that was painful, but I took it as a growing pain. And it was totally worth it. I clearly remember the moment, when I fell in love with photographing people. I was working on a school assignment and I was taking pictures of a girl, who had ginger hair, freckles and piercing blue eyes. ✨The power of brand photography.✨ I wrote a lengthy post over on @jamiewalkercelebrant about the gorgeous and enriching experience of my brand photography shoot with @thymelane_lifestyle @lovemoimakeup and @flamingoamyhair on Monday. Every shoot always starts the same…. The parents stress cause they got everyone fed, dressed, drove to the location, someone then is always hungry (even though they ate 30min ago) only to find their kids running around with nervous energy and “no one is smiling for the camera.” 🫣 Don’t worry folks…. In the spirit of This American Life, The Moth, and other storytelling events, Arctic Entries brings Alaskans to the stage to share their personal stories: funny, sad and sweet. Arctic Entries’ skilled story coaches have successfully nurtured local adults to share their stories at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. However adults are shy, so they have focused their sights onto our best storytellers of all, our children! Arctic Entries Story Coaches will be offering a Youth Storytelling Workshop for elementary and middle school students on Sunday, April 28th from 10am to 1pm. Pizzas will be provided. One of my favorite things is when clients are chatting with me after our first session together and they say “you’re exactly the person you are on your social media! I feel like I already know you!” I am 100% the same person on the internet as I am in real life and I would love for you to feel like you know me before you show up to your session! So let me tell you a few things about me! 1. I’m currently obsessed with rewatching ER. I’ve watched start to finish multiple times but it’s just so good! 2. I have three kids. My oldest is 15! I know… how is that possible when in so young 😉 well, I can tell you! Anyways, my oldest is an angel. Now #2 + #3 are a different story.. how does someone get so lucky to have two loud, wild kids?! We’re very lucky. 3. I’ve been married 10 years this May! My husband is the opposite of me in many ways- Perfectionist type A, Conservative Catholic but for some reason we just work together. Our humor is the same and I think that’s what saves us. Sarcasm is our love language. 4. I live in sweatshirts, comfy tee’s and leggings but LOVE an opportunity to dress up and will absolutely use any chance to buy a fun new outfit to celebrate. 5. I hate coffee. This tends to surprise people mainly because my life is chaos. There’s a million things happening at all times and I don’t drink coffee to keep me going. My caffeine comes from pop- preferably a McDonald’s Coke or Starbucks lemonade refresher.
