The boys are asleep .. I should be getting my workout in but i'm so ... damn... drained... Being at home with both kiddos all day every day (ok except when kais goes to grandmas for the day so I just have my little camy). It's a lot. Kais is almost 3 and it's wonderful 😒. Brought the pup to the dog park and Kaison ran away and then cried because I kept walking down the path and if I stopped to go get him, he ran away again (and then cried when i kept walking) 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️... He wanted to go one way but we went a different way, so he screamed and rolled in the dirt 🤷‍♀️. (I let him choose which way we go 99% of the time so he feels as though he has some say/control). Then screamed getting in the car... 😬😴.. He sure tests my patience. I knew I would have a difficult child because of how .... difficult.... I was, but damnnnnn.... this is crazy. 😴... Not looking forward to going back to work, but so looking forward to going back to work ... Which do you choose at the end of a long day? We are struggling with the dreaded 2 year sleep regression and it has been a nightmare. E comes up with every excuse in the book of why he needs to get out of bed AGAIN and by the time he finally wears himself out enough to crash, I am physically, mentally, and emotionally spent. This mama needs some me time, but honestly I’ve been choosing the bed more and more lately. With a simple bag of chips, and a little one who know doesn’t know how to really use gloves yet. This makes for a great little story. Point is, these simple little moments happen all the time. A different type of DIY today! Not as pretty as some of my other items😉 Today Hudson (2) and I painted popsicle sticks and a toilet paper roll. It took 10 min, $2 (maybe) worth of supplies, and lots of giggles! Moving abroad with kids? . Our kids are one and four years old and we've been telling them since quite a while about our move. But along the way they have each had their own difficulties adjusting. Lil is just extra clingy and won't leave my side. For her it's the new surroundings and missing routines that make it harder. Crumbs keeps taking about his old Kindergarten friends and for all of us it's hard to live in a tiny room with each other with no room for individual growth. . We hope that the new kindergarten routine will help and we're looking for a house or apartment for rent right now, which is really difficult to find. So fingers crossed. 😊 . We do enjoy the new life here though. This little dude. He’s currently having a much anticipated sleepover at his Grams & Pops and I woke up to a quiet house. 🤣 But let’s speak on that. When we (our crew) think of Oliver, we think (probably too often) “loud, high energy, stubborn, passionate” and these aren’t necessarily bad things but they are traits that can feel draining. Well last week when I took him in a mama/Ollie trip to the store, we were getting ready to leave and all the kids came and hugged me goodbye, and I hear Ollie’s voice “I’m going with you!” to which I replied “yes honey I know that” thinking he just thought I was leaving without him, and then he says “but no one gave me hugs…” and my heart ached for his sweet little spirit! All the kids came out to give him his due hugs, but it also opened all of our eyes to his tenderness, and that he’s not just this tough, moosie man of ours but he’s so much more. I feel like that’s all of us to some extent, feeling like we’re only seen by our “negative” traits. I hope you know you are not. You are seen, and you are loved. One of the hardest things as a parent is to hold back when I see my child struggling. Let me explain- Ofcourse I am always there to help him and allow for safety, but for example this morning he was stacking some toys and they were tipping over. I had to use all the self-control I could muster to not straighten the tower for him. Experiencing small amounts of frustration and then overcoming them is a powerful exercise for children (and adults). It promotes problem solving and a sense of self esteem when you figure it out. My independent, sassy little girl. The one who pushes all of my buttons and then comes back with a bigger love than before. We worked hard to get to a point where Crumbs and Lil are kind with each other and share. And of course when either of them feels too done it's still quite a challenge. I've read that it's normal for young siblings to fight every ten minutes because they're in a constant battle for ressources, be it toys, food or their mother. The last one is our biggest battle ground at home... . We've established some general patterns like asking before taking something, offering toys for switching and each kid gets to sit on one of my legs if both need me (don't know what to do when we'll have a third child one day). I try not to interrupt quarreling unless it turns into fighting with unfair or violent behavior. . I realized soon that all fights, as annoying as they are, can be seen as learning opportunities for the kids to grasp the concept of kindness in a sense of finding solutions that suit all parties. . After a fight we try to talk about what every child feels and needs - although I'm usually guessing with my one year old, what they need to feel better and how we could get there. Over a couple of months I've seen a huge change regarding their behavior. Noone got easier to give up a toy for the other one, but they are quicker to think of something to switch it for or to take turns. I'm thankful for your advise from your 'siblings as a team' book @artgerechtprojekt. . Of course we still have days with constant fighting, especially after a long kindergarten day. But after all, these fights are their training ground for later when they need to be strong enough to face disappointment, competition and find coping strategies. . 🤗 How do you deal with your kids fighting?
