I'm finally getting around to posting about the main reason I traveled to Italy... the Bologna Children's Book Fair! As an aspiring children's book illustrator, I wanted to find out more about the children's book publishing industry, and the Bologna Children's Fair seemed like the perfect place to do that. The fair was 4 days long and was even more enormous than i had expected! It was a little overwhelming to walk through, with hundreds of booths set up by various publishers from around the world. I spent a lot of my time attending talks and workshops by experts in the industry, which were super helpful. I also got to hang my poster on the infamous "illustrator's wall," which was a dream come true. I learned so much and left feeling so inspired to keep illustrating! 22/30 My mom sent me this ref and it was right away top of my want to paints foe pleinairpril but I had saved it until I was more familiar with gouache. White surfaces are quite a challenge for painting traditionally because there is no recovering if you go too dark. I think even comparing todays paint to my day 2 also from a greece reference shows how much of an impact regular practice can have. It’s @jasminehortop here and the final day of my takeover 🥹🍃 Deep down, part of my identity is still very much a traveller. Up to settling in Cornwall last year, I had been solo travelling full-time for four years, Equipped with wifi, solar power, and a big big battery, I made a van into an art studio on wheels and just set out on the road all over Europe, while illustrating freelance for clients. I’ve driven along the majority of the European Atlantic coast, and I come back to many special spots through my illustrations that aim to capture the soul of a place, and what it meant to me. Costa Rica is my second home. I am immensely grateful to all the people I met when I lived in this country. At that time I didn’t know a word of English or Spanish 😂, I communicated through a translator and gestures 😁. Although mostly I was hiding from everyone because I felt very constrained, because I wanted to communicate with everyone easily, to say everything I think, to ask, to joke, to just be myself, not a doll who can only say a couple words. Now I’m thinking, why the hell was I shutting myself off from everyone? 😅 I lived in Costa Rica for a few years and I hardly spoke to anyone for fear of not being understood or not being understood, although I would rather just speak as I was able and listen, and thus learn these languages passively. Now I live in Spain, I don’t learn the language from textbooks, but I speak every day as much as I can, as I can, and I listen and listen and listen. And it’s paying off, slowly, but it’s paying off 😂. Manifested the Mountains and the Lord delivered! ⛰️🌄😍 A beautiful last spring break hiking, eating absolutely spectacular food, and absorbing some overdue sunshine in North Georgia with my favorite person! If there was an Oscar for best mom in the world, yall, it would go to my mom. God just puts people in our lives- he knows what we need- who we need and I cannot put into words how blessed and how lucky I am to have my mom. She is the most inspiring, creative role model I have ever met, she works her ass off designing the most beautiful graphic illustrations you’ve ever seen! She is my best friend and always puts up with my incessant imagination, anxiety, and curiosities. No other person would hike up and down THEN up and down Tallulah Falls again with their overly ambitious daughter. No mom on the planet would sit and sketch at the drop of a hat, split every meal to try new things, fly out from Austin- rent a car- and drive out to the mountains with a hurt shoulder to go hiking with their daughter. I’m so blessed to have this woman in my life who has taught me everything I know, who knows me better then I know myself most days, and who will set me straight when the world has gone to hell. Celebrating 8 years of nomadic life! 🌎 Eight years ago I flew to India having quit my job, with no real plan of how things would pan out. I started my freelance business on the road from my laptop from a cafe in the Himalayas, with a dream of illustrating and designing whilst travelling the world. Eight years later, I feel incredibly fortunate to still be running and growing my business whilst living a nomadic lifestyle. "Istruzioni per il viaggio" è un'illustrazione originale realizzata a penna nell'aeroporto di Siviglia 😮 In quel momento partivo per il Marocco, avevo un gran desiderio di viaggiare anche se era la prima volta e non sapevo bene come sarebbe andata. 💎 Mentre aspettavo, riflettevo sul viaggio, su cosa sia veramente indispensabile nel momento di partire, come le istruzioni che senti durante il decollo. Ecco, in un viaggio trovo indispensabile questo: preparare lo zaino. Quando vai in viaggio e lo fai con uno zaino, devi scegliere bene cosa portare. Non c'è spazio per le pietre o i pesi inutili. « L’ascension » ~ Et toi, tu es au sommet de ta montagne ? ⛰️🥾 On a tous un sommet (ou même plusieurs 😅) à gravir. Le temps de parcours, le dénivelé, les conditions varient d’une personne à l’autre. Une montagne c’est un peu comme un obstacle qui se trouve entre une situation actuelle et la vie que l’on souhaite mener, le sommet concrétisant cet objectif ultime à atteindre. Certains sommets sont plus durs d’accès, ou mettent plus de temps à atteindre. Il ne faut pas se précipiter pour les gravir, ni se sentir forcés. Chacun son rythme. Personnellement, j’ai encore pas mal de sommets à grimper.
