But when we're at home within ourselves, we have the fortitude we need to maintain standards when choosing new relationships. We don't need to be saved from our aloneness because solitude is bearable—even enjoyable—so we don't just say yes to any person that knocks at the door. I've found it helpful to reframe solitude from "time spent alone" to "time spent intentionally building a relationship with myself." Because think about it: If someone was unwilling to invest time and care into their relationships, we would probably consider them emotionally unavailable.
