Ribwort Plantain (Plantago lanceolata) 🌱 I went on a lovely walk on Sunday morning and found tonnes of Ribwort plantain, which is a common and interesting little plant! Ribwort plantain gets its name from the long ribs that you can see running from the base to the tips of the long leaves, which is a key identifier (another being the brown flower heads that the tiny white flowers grow out of, as seen in the second photo). The leaves are technically edible although they’re very very bitter, but they also have an effective medicinal usage! They’re full of antihistamines, and can be crushed and rubbed onto nettle stings or bug bites for relief, unlike Dock leaves which just give a placebo effect. As well as this, the brown flower heads are edible and have a very strong mushroom flavour! It’s quite surreal biting into a plant and tasting mushrooms, but pretty cool! You can also collect the flower heads and use them to make a mushroom flavour stock 🍄‍🟫🌱 - - - - #ribwort #ribwortplantain #plantain #forage #foraging #medicinalplants #wildplant #wildplants #wildplantsofinstagram #wildplantmedicine #foragedfood #forageandharvest #forager #foragingforfood #wildforaging #foraginguk #forageuk #plants #wildfooduk #wildfoods #mushroomflavour

Eetbaar of giftig. Vergelijk de soorten. Wild Oat Tincture (Avena fatua). I tincture the wild oats when they are “milking” as that’s when I want to capture the most potent medicine. The stand of wild oats I harvest from are so giving and abundant. When I tincture the green milky oats - they will last a very long time in that form and are easy and convenient to take. I’m so grateful for the restoration this medicine gives to frazzled, burned out, stressed out and even constipated, angry humans. The milky oats are a tonic meaning they nourish and can be taken long term. They are a laxative. And they are for nervous system support. It’s a nervous system tonic, a nervine trophorestorative, offering strength and nourishment to the nerves. Can help rebuild damaged myelin sheath and nerve cells. They are antispasmodic used in chorea, epilepsy, and restless leg syndrome. They are used for nervous exhaustion, worried fragile person, depleted mother, emotional rage and irritability. They offer strength when big things hit out of the blue like a death or divorce. They help calm hyper children. They really should be taken by everyone. Milky Oats for everyone! My first batch of the season will be ready in 4 weeks! I’ll be posting. Would you like 4 ounce bottle options? It sold out really fast last year! . . . #milkyoats #wildoats #greenoats #avenafatua #michaelmoore

One of the greatest things for me about learning to forage is how the plants and fungi growing around us start to take on some personal meaning. For example, this wild strawberry plant has come out of dormancy and is beginning to grow new leaves, telling us that spring is FINALLY here! 🌈 In a few months they will be in a full bloom of small white flowers, eventually giving way to beautiful little strawberries, and to me it’s just such a happy looking plant to see no matter the stage of its life cycle. 🍓 As well as the fruit being absolutely delicious, the leaves are very useful medicinally! Wild strawberry leaves are full of vitamin C, K, antioxidants and iron, making wild strawberry leaf tea a great supplement. Many people like to use this as an aid during menstruation due to the high iron content! Unfortunately in England the wild strawberry plant is categorised as near threatened, as so much of our wildflower meadows and open woodland habitats have been destroyed by poor land management and disregard for nature. So, when picking wild strawberries please be careful not to take too much of the fruit or damage the plants through picking too many leaves, we want to leave enough for nature to thrive, not just survive. - - - #wildstrawberry #wildstrawberries #wildplants #wildplant #wildplantmedicine #wildmedicine #herbalmedicine #wildfood #foraging #forage #foragedfood #foraginguk #strawberryleaf #wildstrawberryleaftea #ukwildlife #nature #protectnature #wildforaging #forageandharvest #forager #foragingforfood #ukforaging #wildfooding #wildfoodlove

My Chaparral/Creosote body oil will be back in stock soon as I harvested some beautiful resinous sticky creosote bush here in Joshua Tree. I also add the creosote oil to my mineral based tallow sunscreen which is super nice for the face and chest in the summer months. This desert bush grows in the southwest in the harshest gnarliest conditions- and thrives. Meaning it is super healing for our dry or damaged skin. NDGA is a powerful antioxidant found in the resinous leaves and helps to prevent free radical damage in the body and skin- meaning it’s anti-aging! It also has a history of being anti-fungal and having anti-cancer properties. Win win! I’m absolutely in love with the smell. It’s been said if you love the smell you’re a crazy person. lol Do you like the smell? . . . #creosotebush #chaparral #southwestherbalist #herbalist #desertdweller #desertherbalist

Saw Palmetto - Growing Wild Saw palmetto, or Serena Repens, has a dynamic effect on the entire endocrine system; activating pituitary functions cascading effects throughout the body due to full-system glandular activation and stimulation; catalyzing actions in the body including increased libido and mood. Saw palmetto affects etheric functions related to the energetic body (as the chakras are the energetic imprint of the glands and create these organs through a stepping down of energy) that activate and inspire the endocrine glands and related anatomy and systems. The signature of the plant indicates a fanlike property and likeness to the cerebral cortex, the berries themselves hold an imprint of the pituitary gland; similar in size, shape, and color. Native to subtropical and tropical Southeastern United States, the sole species in the genus Serenoa, Saw Palmetto is slow growing and long lived, with some plants found to be 500-700 years old. White Pine ~ Ubiquitous in our northeastern forests, it is the primary tree species in my yard and neighboring Bear Brook State Park. It’s also one of the most beloved medicinal evergreens! Prune outer tips of the branches any time of year to make medicine with the needles. It’s lovely as a tea, syrup, or tincture, including bioregional cocktail bitters blends (try it with hops!). White pine’s aromatics are moving, antimicrobial, lung-opening, digestion-increasing, anti-inflammatory, anti-histamine. White pine is easy to identify with its long needles in bundles of five. Let's talk about a wet cough & mucus. There are 3 types of mucus. (wet cough) Clear, thin, light white colored - Thin, clear, flowing mucus is a good and healthy immune system response. This is healthy mucus that helps prevent pathogens from invading. Don’t suppress it! Avoid decongestants when clear. Stuck, stagnant, yellow and green mucus- means hot and body may be fighting an infection. Keep mucus flowing with stimulating expectorant herbs, spicy foods, warming spices, and steam. Stuck dried up mucus, irritated - need to moisten with demulcents herbs(marshmallow) and moistening expectorants. Don’t stop the cough! We want to cough or the infection could get trapped in the lungs. Herbs for wet congested cough are Stimulating Expectorant herbs -which can be used for white, yellow, green, and stuck mucus. What expectorants do- *Promotes mucus flow *Helps expel mucus from the lungs *Helps relieve congestion *Keep the mucus moving Stimulating expectorant herbs are for coughing with mucus present - don’t use when no mucus is present. I formulated a tincture to help get things up and out. love that I wildcrafted most all of the herbs right here in Arizona for it. It’s up in my shop! . . . #herbalapothecary #herbshop #wetcough #herbalcoughremedy

There are a couple of different types of coughs! A dry cough, a wet cough, dry unproductive cough(dried stuck mucus), and a croupy sounding cough(like a bark). It does get a little tricky to know which herbs to take for these coughs, when to take a tincture, when to drink a tea, when to take an anti-microbial. I get it! This post is about a dry cough. One that doesn’t have mucus and is dry, irritating, sore, and often times at night spasmodic meaning it’s an uncontrollable burst of continuous coughing. Before I talk specific herbs I love good old culinary sage, thyme, and ginger tea hands down for any type of cough for their antimicrobial properties. Drink throughout whole sickness. I like marshmallow root tea (make it with lukewarm water not hot) for dry irritated coughs that need soothing and moisturizing during the day. At night I like valerian and California poppy for the dry uncontrollable spasmodic cough that keeps us awake. I’m a valerian person- I actually really like it at night as a sedative. Some people are not valerian people and it does the opposite keeping them up. We also love California poppy tincture for night time coughing and especially for my son. It’s so gentle for kids. These more sedative suppressing cough herbs are for at night when sleep is important for healing. Wild cherry bark syrup is a classic remedy for suppressing a dry cough. If it’s a wet cough - don’t suppress it- coughing is the immune system working well to get the gunk up and out. Also with all of this we take immune supportive herbs like echinacea, elderberry, and osha root. We take raw unheated honey and use Usnea tincture for anti-microbial action through out a cough. Please tell me your favorite herbs for a cough?! My next post will be a post on a wet cough! . . . #herbalist #coughremedy #coughing #coughsyrup

I feel the world today or maybe just the USA has a low vibration of chronic stress, anxiety, and depression. There is so much stimulus and information to constantly process, the 9-5 rat race, nuclear family life (doing it all), pollution, toxins, fear, you name it- there are constant stressors on the mind and body. Even though I find free medicine in nature, deep breathing, dancing, and walking- I could still use some support from our trusted herbal plant friends. This relaxed and happy tincture is an adaptogen, anti-anxiety, anti-depression, anti-viral, immunity, feel good medicine. This formula is dear to my heart because I personally need it. I put in a lot of thought and intention when I formulate tinctures. I grew the lemon balm and tulsi/holy basil in my organic garden with beautiful soil full of worms and life. I drove 17 hours to Colorado to harvest the fresh St. Johns wort in this tincture. And the reishi is wildcrafted from good friends of ours. I have just enough to share 10 bottles with you and the rest is for me until next years harvest! This is also awesome for dark winters, dark times, insomnia, nerve pain, and discomfort during the cold and flu. My son who is 5 takes it as well. 🌿VERY LAST of the Silverweed🌿 We are still gathering bits and bobs from the garden as the warm Autumn continues into Samhain! A small basket of Silverweed (Potentilla anserina) was just gathered to create a vinegar. This native wild plant is a potent and often overlooked medicine 💚 We like to have Silverweed tincture and vinegar handy for: 🌿Sore throats and infections. Combines well for this with Thyme, Nasturtium & Ground Ivy medicines. 🌿Gum and mouth abscesses and inflammation. Combines well for this with Plantain & Calendula medicines. 🌿Oral candidiasis. Combines well for this with Nasturtium, Echinacea & Calendula medicines. When tinctures of the plants can be a little harsh herbal vinegars are wonderful. When working with issues of the mouth, gums, and throat mixing herbs to use as gargles can be very effective treatment. Silverweed’s (Potentilla anserina) lovely anti-inflammatory, soothing and astringent actions make it a perfect wee garden medicine 💚 #silverweed #potentillaanserina #herbalmedicine #nativeplants #irishnativewildflowers #traditionalmedicine #irishherbalism #irishherbalmedicine #nativeplantmedicine #herbsofireland #wildplantmedicine #herbalmedicineireland #irishfolkmedicine #ivywood

I recently read this book by Susun Weed! I love all her books. She’s radical and I totally resonate. I do highly recommend this one for menopausal years and before! I’m not there yet but it’s quickly approaching and there’s a natural alternative for healing all sorts of aging challenges that may arise, from bladder infections to hot flashes. It’s a good resource to have on hand and she also covers all the drug options as well if you don’t take the natural route. So very comprehensive. @susun_weed . . . #herbalinfo #susunweed #menopause

We all age. It’s a natural process of life. I love when I see an older wise women with wrinkles and long gray hair. Its beautiful. When people do botox and fillers- it’s unnatural looking. I’m going to go with wrinkles and smile lines all day over a stiff face. But that’s me. Others find beauty in other ways and that’s okay. With that said I also want to age gracefully and take the best care of my skin and body as possible. One of my favorite desert plants that I always come back to for my face care is chaparral(creosote bush). Have you smelled chaparral oil? It almost has a sticky glue like smell. Either you love it or hate it. But I feel intuitively that distinct glue smell is the plant constituents which are tightening and toning my skin. It’s one of the highest plants in anti-oxidants and has anti-cancer properties. It’s also a mild sunscreen spf of 7. I use this oil on my face before bed, in the morning, and on my arms and legs as sunscreen. When I remember of course- there’s many time I use nothing! But we are very dry in the desert right now and this is what I’m currently doing. . . . #chaparral #chaparraloil #herbalskincare #creosotebush #creosote

Blue Vervain harvest by kayak. There are many wetlands here, rich places filled with diverse life. These plants love growing on top of one of the beaver lodges, this is where much of our harvest comes from. First three pics of the harvest and then the plant, the beaver lodge where we find the blue vervain, short video of a peaceful glide, Megan in her kayak, and a dragonfly nymph skin, attached to some blue vervain. A favourite of Hildegard Von Bingen, blue vervain was a holy plant to the ancient Greeks, the branches used to purify the temples. Blue vervain is a nervine, alleviating tension, whether it is physiological or a stiff neck. Being a bitter herb, this one can improve digestion. Blue vervain also is used for menstrual related complaints, such as cramping or anxiety. Queen Anne's Lace/Wild Carrot ° Edible Parts Using first year Queen Anne’s lace plants are recommended. Roots are long, pale, woody, and are finger-thin and are used in soups, stews, and in making tea. First year leaves can be chopped and tossed into a salad. Flower clusters can be ‘french-fried’ or fresh flowers can be tossed into a salad. The aromatic seed is used as a flavoring in stews and soups. ° Medicinal Uses An infusion of the root is used in the treatment of various complaints including digestive disorders, (as it soothes the digestive tract), kidney and bladder diseases and in the treatment of dropsy. It supports the liver, stimulates the flow of urine and the removal of waste by the kidneys. As a cleansing herbal remedy, an infusion of Wild Carrot leaves has been used to counter cystitis and kidney stone formation, and to diminish stones that have already formed. ° The seed is a traditional ’morning after’ contraceptive. The seeds and leaves are also used to encourage delayed menstruation, and can induce uterine contractions, which may cause miscarriage if used by pregnant women. ° ° ° #wildcarrot #queenanneslace #naturalizedplant #naturalized #wildherbs #wildcrafting #wildflowerseason #wildfood #wildedibleplants #ediblewildplants #wildmedicine #wildplantmedicine #umbellifer #apiaceae #southerneuropenative #augustsun #augustflowers #augustwildflowers #wildflowerswa #wildflowerphotography #wildflowerpoetry_ #wildflowerhour #whiteflowers #wildflowers #forageandfind #forageandharvest #wildcraft #plantmedicine #medicinalherbs #spoiledonthecoastlines

***product update*** I drive up to my friends farm in Durango every year to harvest flowering St. John’s wort for this amazing herbal ally for nerve pain and sore tense bodies. I sell out every year so get some now. I also really like to have it on hand for growing pains for my 5 year old. I never wash my face with soap- I don’t wear make up so it’s not necessary but I do love a good face exfoliant for buffing off dead skin cells. The Radiant Face Polish has raw honey, royal jelly, diatomaceous earth and fine sea salt in it! I really shine after! I added charcoal to my Herbal Electrolyte drink because so many of us need a binder for mold, heavy metals, pollution, chemicals. It’s an amazing addition for daily minerals and fulvic acid as well with the shilajit in there. We are electrical beings and need minerals! I have some fresh Motherwort for anxiety relief and grounding. Wild Yarrow face toner is delight as yarrow is a natural astringent. Wild Arnica salve is another must have for sore muscles and sprains when they arise. I drove to Durango for this as well so only have 10 in stock! I have some cute gifts sets and cotton tincture pouches available. Thank you again for all your support! You all are amazing! . . . #productdesign #stjohnswort #herbalbodyoil

This pretty pink/purple flower is marsh woundwort, a cousin to the previous post of the hedge woundwort. The only real differences in appearance and general qualities is the colour of the flowers being lighter and more pink-ish and a bit shorter stem usually. Again she is an anti inflammatory and can be used for healing wounds, as mild pain relief and sedative and to stem bleeding. Marsh woundwort might also be used as an antihistamine, particularly when bitten by insects or an allergic reaction and rash. As an antispasmodic you can also try the tea for menstrual cramps. I’m in plant harvesting and medicine making heaven up here in Colorado with my herbie group. So far we met and harvested alfalfa, Motherwort, licorice root, plantain, yarrow, red root, bee balm, skullcap, St. John’s wort, uva ursi, Oregon grape root, arnica, Fever few, catnip, aspen, willow, juniper, red clover, wild rose, spearmint, mullein, burdock root, and maybe a couple I can’t think of right now. Today is our last day and we will meet even more plants!! I live in the desert with amazing medicine but I do plan to spend the month of July up in Colorado every year. I want to go on a pilgrimage every summer for medicine. How fun would that be? Where do you live and what plants are out your door? . . . #herbalistdream #herbie #wildcraft

Processing dried nettle that I wildharvested for winter teas. You can really see, taste and smell the difference in the quality of locally harvested herbs compared to store-bought tea or bulk herbs. In the store you generally have no idea of how the plants were harvested, who harvested them, and how long they have been sitting on the shelf. There is no relationship. This nettle is vibrant! Deeply dark green, harvested at its peak, quickly dried, and then stored away from sunlight in airtight bags to retain its goodness. We make a "daily nourishment" tea with nettle since it is rich in vitamins and minerals (like calcium and iron), and is also good for our kidneys, liver, skin, hair, allergies and more. I combine nettle along with mint, dandelion, fennel (and a few other favourites) plus local honey, and I drink this tea every day. It is my favourite blend, and I love starting my day feeling well nourished. It makes a great iced nettle latte too, if you want to get fancy. #homesteadinglife #herbfarm #folkherbalism #nettletea #nourishyourbody #wildharvest #wildforaging #wildplantmedicine

Essences are little drops of water magic. They are the subtle medicine which comes from capturing plant (and other) energetics in water. The resulting infused sacred waters can be taken by the drop/spray by mouth, or absorbed through the skin, either alone or in other skin preparations. Essences can bring healing to your spirit and emotional body, restoring balance, and affecting deep energetic change. Nettle Flower and Flint Essence Transformation - Clarity - Vitality Nettle flower and flint essence fires up your energy to move forward with sharp clarity and clear, healthy boundaries. Nettle supports creative potential, action, and momentum, shedding and releasing that which has been pulling us down. The energy of flint is raw and potent, drawing up pure Earth vibrations and ancient vitality. Flint allows us to connect with and create from a place of deep and ancient knowing, with a pure and clear awareness. Nettle flower and flint essence is for those times when we feel stuck, stagnant, or are lacking clarity and vitality. This essence is made with pure natural spring water gathered by hand in reverence for the water spirits and their journey. The nettle flowers and flint were infused in sunlight and also under the light of the full moon.

False Lily of the Valley. A PNW native ground cover plant. 🌱The berries of this plant are bitter-sweet (and eating too many can cause laxative effects), but contain high amounts of vitamin C.🌿 The young shoots are edible too and are traditionally prepared like asparagus. The roots can be powdered and used as a seasoning agent for other foods as well.🌱 Medicinal uses of the roots involve either chewing on them directly, or adding them into syrups to help relieve coughs, and there's some folk evidence out there that a tincture or tea of the root can help with stomach aches and menstrual cramps. 🌿 The fresh leaves can be smashed into a poultice that can be placed on the skin to ease the pain of minor burns and scratches. ° ° ° #falselilyofthevalley #pnwnativeplants #pnwplants #washingtonnativeplants #washingtonplants #groundcover #wildcrafting #forageandharvest #forager #wildherbs #wildmedicine #wildfoods #wildplants #wildplantmedicine #medicinalwildplants #wildfood #gatherer #medicinalplants #makemedicine #forageforfood #knowyourneighbors #wildflowerseason #wildflowerpoetry_ #wildflowerhour #darknature #dark_beauty #moodynature_elite #softnature #inthedeepdarkwoods #spoiledonthecoastlines

20minutes bike ride from home takes me to wild edible garden. 10 edible wild plants are in this basket. Seasonal, wild herbs are full of nutrients, flavours and medicinal powers. Why would you get flavourless, watery sad salad leaves from supermarket when those amazing plants are available? Gentle bitterness and particular earthy, greeny aromas are a common traits in both Finnish and Japanese spring wild herbs and many of these plants fit perfectly in Japanese recipes, too. In the small private catering, I use lots of those wild plants in the menu in this season. This is a kind of food that doesn’t fit in logic of economics, business and scalability in current system, therefore we don’t see them much in supermarket channels but they are sustainable, seasonal food options in abundance. I do what I can do to serve them within my capacity. #foraging #wildplants #foragedfood #timeforawalk #forestwalk #forestfood #finland #finland4seasons #seurasaari #helsinki #wildplantmedicine #foodformedicine #医食同源

🌱Springtime foraging in the forest - pure magic, medicine & wild food for the mind, body & soul. 🌱This freshly picked home-made nettle, ramsons, mustard garlic & cleavers soup was as yummy as it was gloriously green. A bowl of nourishment from Mumma Earth as we flow through a turn of the wheel & changing landscapes. ❤️Partnered with a scrumptious cob from @thecrustyloafuk enjoyed on a chillier evening last week. Jobs a good ‘un! 🌱Nettle - I love to forage nettle with the ‘pinch & roll’ technique taught to me by my Dad. However, if collecting with clippers or gloves feels right for you to avoid those tiny hairs, then please do so. I do abit of both depending on what comes through. Nettles lose their sting once steeped for tea, blanched or thoughtfully dehydrated. Natutal energy boosting, stimulating & super nourishing. Brain fog? Nettle tea in the morning may be for you! The glorious & often overlooked ‘weed’ is one of the most medicinal rich herbs around. A valuable source of potassium, silica, iron & calcium. 🌱Cleavers - The whole plant is rich in vitamin C. A lymphatic system natural supporter, helping to eliminate waste, get things moving & dispel stagnant energies from within. Blanch before using to avoid irritation from those sticky fine hairs. Do not consume cleavers if the hairs irritate your skin on touch. 🌱Mustard garlic - I love adding handfuls of fresh leaves to our spring salads. MG greens are very nutritious members of cruciferous vegetables, they have substantial amounts of vitamins A, C, E & some of the B vitamins. 🌱Ramsons - That beautiful display of fresh young leaves blanketed across the woodland floor & that unmistakable aroma in the air! As well as being worked with in many possible ways in your spring time cooking - enjoy working with wild garlic through being thoroughly dried & steeped in bottles of olive oil, infused & enjoyed throughout the entire year. Rich in antibacterial & antibiotic properties, has been shown to improve heart health & lower blood pressure. ❤️Which wild herbs are calling to you & are you blending in with your culinary skills this season? I would love to know! 🌱Happy foraging, Clo x

Do you introduce yourself to the plants? I’ve developed my own personal simple way. It’s not over the top spiritual. I just treat them like a living being as they are and say, “Hi, I’m Melissa. It’s nice to meet you and I’m so grateful for your medicine. Thank you” In the desert you can give a really thirsty looking plant some of your water as a thanks. I know some people who sing a song or give a strand of their hair. Some leave tobacco or mugwort as an offering. There’s no right or wrong way. Your way will come the more time you sit with plants and get to know them. And if you forget - give thanks on the way home. You’ll remember next time :) . . . #planttherapy #naturetherapy #plantofferings

***Regulate Herbal Body Oil*** I made this herbal body to help heal my nervous system and anyone else who needs this regulation support. The 3 herbs (Tulsi, Chamomile, Lavender) in this potent formula work directly on relaxing, grounding, and centering the body and soul. I added a little crown because firstly I want to remind you that you are queen and so worthy and so amazing and doing such a good job navigating through this world! Secondly I add the most Tusli/Holy Basil to the formula and she's known as the "Queen Of The Herbs" because the plant gifts are incomparable and matchless. The purple association is royalty and wealth and what that means to me is a regulated nervous system rippling out into the collective. Benefits of Regulate Oil- * Apply daily as full body oil * Regulate and heal nervous system * Bedtime oil for deep relaxation * Soothe, calm, and soften skin * Helps with acne * Reduce fine lines, keep youthful Volume: 2 ounce bottle/treatment pump top Ingredients: Organic Tulsi(Holy Basil) Flowers & Leaves, Organic Chamomile Flowers (Matricaria recutita), Organic Lavender Flowers (Lavendula angustifolia), Organic cold Pressed Olive Oil. This is pure plants. NO essential oil added. I used the whole plant extraction method and all the constituents work together and nothing is fractionated. It's an ancient traditional to herbal body oil with plants and fats. The nervous system lies right under the skin and you will soak up all the green medicine in this potent oil. Enjoy :)

🌱 Ostara/Spring/Vernal equinox blessings beautiful souls! Spring is officially with us & I am here for all of the changing landscapes, new beginnings, fertile energies flowing through the land & all that transmutes with this new season. 🌱Nature teaches us that these cycles of death & rebirth are ever needed & are ever beautiful. She reminds us to keep balance, flow & not force. Divine masculine energy & divine feminine energy are also in perfect equilibrium at this time. What calls to be grown & taken forward into spring & what will serve you to let be & step away from? 🌱Spring herbs are in abundance all over these lands, emerging once again from there cyclical winter rest. Blessing us with there beauty, magic & medicine Seeing the new shoots & bright flowers scattered all over the forest around us is like a million bright beacons that we find ourselves at the shift into spring & lightness returning. Re-meeting & re-connecting with natural kin for this fresh new cycle. 🌱We welcomed in the spring equinox/Ostara by taking a ramble to the top of the beautiful kymin from down in Monmouth town. As we walked these beautiful lands, we tested our knowledge & quizzed each other on flora & fungi through out the afternoon. We were greeted by much plant kin & collected some yummy, nutrient rich edible wild flowers & greens. I loveeee spring time foraging! Who’s coming over for some bold & beautiful wildflower spring salads, nettle-ramsons pasta & sweet violet cordial? 😃 🌱Ostara takes its naming fron the Germanic goddess Eostre/Ostara. The Goddess heralds the beginning of spring. She is the Maiden Goddess, full of potential, representing the opportunity for light, growth & rebirth after the dark, hibernation & stagnation of winter. 🌱I welcome this new season of change, heartbeats through the Earth & energies of fertility, renewal, hope, cleansing & re-birth. So it is. 🌱Blessings & thank you for being on this journey with me through the seasons. May this new season stir within you the fires of your depths & help to nurture & grow all of the intentions & seeds you have planted.😍 *Please never forage wild herbs without being 100% sure of identification.

Are you nuts about HAZEL nuts? You don’t have to wait until autumn time to enjoy the health benefits of hazel. Now is the time when the #hazel shrub produces catkins and these catkins have always been highly valued in herbal medicine. They contain minerals, flavonoids and proteins during flowering season. They also have a detoxifying effect and help stimulate circulation. Hazel cat tea is a revitalising treatment. For that drink 1 cup of the tea every day for 1 to 2 weeks. Hazel cat tea in combination with #elderflower and #linden can also help when suffering from a cold or mild fever. When harvesting hazel catkins always remember that they provide one of the first food sources for bees and other wild life and priority should be given to the wild life. Only harvest small amounts. The rule of thumb is to only pick the amount that fits in the balm of your hand.

Yarrow is a very bitter, antiviral herb, effective in treating cold and flu symptoms because of its ability to help the body sweat. It is also useful, externally, to stop itching and bleeding, reduce swelling, and heal bruises. It is one of the main ingredients found in my "All purpose Salve" that everyone should have in their hiking packs and medicine cabinets. Find it on my website: www.desireherbal.com 🌱 #yarrow #herbs #herbalism #naturalhealing #wildplantmedicine #desireherbal #herbalremedies #plantstagram #supportyourlocalherbalist

I’ve been so busy with the Wild Meat Retreat but also equally busy with Melissa’s Herb Shop products! Here is a slide show of the last 10 products I’ve created. All of my herbal creations come from me personally needing their support and figure there may be others who need them as well! As always everything is made in small batches, wild/organic, of the highest quality with love and intention. Thank you for all of your support! And thank the plants for all of their support. . . . #melissasherbshop #desertherbalist #apothecary
